It was T.C. - 80, eighty years before the Trial Century.

Humankind had abandoned the comfort of a familiar world in order to attempt life on E.D.N. III. As emigration to the new world progressed, facilities were constructed to handle the growing population, and colonization appeared to be successful.

With the expansion of the colony, humanity encountered a new alien lifeform. Known as the Akrid, there were immediately identified as a hostile presence. The humans had no weapons with which to repel Akrid agression, and were forced to retreat from their new home.

While fleeing from the enigmatic menace, the humans discovered the precious thermal energy lying within the bodies of the Akrid. It was a powerful new energy source; suddenly humankind was determined to fight.

The humans developed a weapon capable of fighting back against the Akrid scourge - The Vital Suit, or VS. with VS technology, humanity has returned to E.D.N. III, and the great colonization experiment has resumed.

Those who were left behind in the initial retreat banded together as the Snow Pirates. As a team, they roamed the hostile planet in VS vehicles, fighting for their very survival.

In the course of its wanderings, a small band of Snow Pirates discover a young man buried in the ice. They rescue him and bring him back from the brink of death.

The young man remembers only two things about his past. First, his name is Wayne. Second, the Akrid that killed his father is known as "Green Eye". In the hope that Green Eye is the key to regaining his memory, Wayne, together with the team of Snow Pirates and a VS, goes in search of the Akrid.

On a hostile world of extreme cold, Wayne will soon discover that his past and the future of Lost Planet are inexorably linked...

Mankind is fighting for survival on EDN III. As well as the extreme conditions on the icy planet, the colonisers have encountered a deadly new alien enemy – the Akrid. Emerging from the frozen wastelands, these heat-seeking monsters seem impervious to human weapons. They quickly devastate the human outposts, the survivors fleeing to the safety of space.

The remaining hardened warriors form small groups, snow pirate clans – either determined to find a way of fighting the Akrid scourge, or of plundering the ruins. In one of those groups, Wayne Holden and his father fight a desperate battle against the largest Akrid, the mythical Green Eye. Wayne sees his father die, before he too is encased in the icy blast of Green Eye's attack.

Left for dead, Wayne is found nearly frozen by a snow pirate clan. Wayne's memory is gone, all he can remember is facing Green Eye before the ice closed in. One of his father's inventions, locked to his arm, has saved him.
Uniquely, it allows Wayne to heal himself using the energy from Akrid bodies. Back from the ice and hungry for revenge, alongside his new companions, Wayne must hunt for Green Eye, fight for survival and save a lost planet on the edge of extinction.

Extreme solutions – State-of-the-art weaponry and gadgets include a grappling anchor to let you zip to safety, or reach new areas. Plus assault rifles, grenades and plasma guns. You can even rip weapons off VS battle suits to grab rocket launchers, laser rifles and gatling cannons

Vital Suits – Built to fight the Akrid and survive extreme conditions, these walking tanks each have unique abilities. One can shoulder two weapons, one can hover and another can perform long jumps and dodges. A VS can be the deadliest weapon against the Akrid or online against rival snow pirate clans

Thermal Energy – In order to survive on EDN III, you'll need to move fast. Your T-Eng thermal energy bar constantly drops as you're exposed to the cold. You need T-Eng to heal yourself, to power VS battle suits and to work some weapons. So keep moving, find shelter and kill Akrid – their dead bodies are a useful source of T-Eng. The pressure's on…

The Akrid – Monsters that live on thermal energy. Find their weak points, where the energy shows through their armour, and strike. Some are gigantic, some hunt in packs, all sense the thermal energy you have and go for it with one intent only – to get that energy from your dead body

Extreme online – 16-player intense action across eight vast, icy levels. Hunt down hidden weapons, climb into VS battle suits or use your anchor and zip line to find new sniping positions. With four multi-player game modes, including team and solo elimination, the online action possibilities are endless

Survival of the fittest – If the extreme conditions don't freeze you to death, you could easily end up as food for an Akrid. And if they don't get you, there are hostile snow pirate clans ready to steal your equipment and mysterious NEVEC troops that kill on sight. Are you ready to fight for survival? To hunt for revenge?
