Default question about S.T.A.R.S.

I was reading about S.T.A.R.S. and i found where it says that this was at first a branch in the NYPD, and not originally in RC. Also i read that the unit was created in RC in the 70's and not prior to the cannibal incidents but rather modified as barry and chris came in. Im now unsure which way it is.

It's really entirely dependant on where you get the info from.

The original timeline that was released on various Websites, including an official Capcom website, used a FanMade Timeline.

This Timeline used S.D.Perry's Books as sources of information, and S.D.Perry made it so that S.T.A.R.S was a sort of Global Military Service, which started in New York in 1967 in response to Terrorist attacks.

However, as far as I'm aware, the official view is that S.T.A.R.S were created in Raccoon City in 1996, as a part of the "brining Raccoon City into the 21st Centruy" project.

This project was funded mostly by Umbrella, and a few other civilian companies.

S.T.A.R.S were created in response to an increase in Terrorist Threats upon the town, and various other problems. Obviously, the main reason (hidden from everyone else) was to be used as test subjects in a controlled outbreak, created by Umbrella.

Yeah, i read that bright 21st plan with S.T.A.R.S. being part. In those books it says that yeah, also i read this at the timeline at the europe site for the series. you mean that timeline didnt happen? i also read there that Jill was born on valentine's day, but ive seen nothing that says another specific day on that.

The Timeline on the Official Site is an un-official timeline.

It's as simple as that.

The Timeline was not made by Capcom themselves, just used by Capcom.

Jill's birthday has never been revealed, S.T.A.R.S only existed within Raccoon City, etc, etc.

A good site to check for this is here:

http://projectumbrella.net/

EDIT:

Interestingly, the website I linked above also mentions S.T.A.R.S being a national organisation, and Jill beign a member of another group before the Raccoon City group. So I'm questioning their sources at this very moment. I'll get back to you when I get an update.

EDIT 2:

Many apologies. It would appear that Capcom retconned alot of the original information, and it would appear that S.T.A.R.S are a National organisation:

http://projectumbrella.net/forum/STA...omment-1003548

You'll find the full info in the above link.

I noticed on 'PU' Jill isn't in the BSAA section.

Both PU and the Resi wiki both say Jill was born in 1974, but an actual day isn't given. But Jill Valentine being born on Valentine's day seems to be one of those things that kids think because it relates to her name. Although since it's her last name then it's incredibly unlikely.

It's like saying Jill is related to Vincent Valentine from FF7.

To be honest, I'm mildly annoyed at myself for not knowing that Capcom had retconned the above information.

For the most part of the series, it was always said that S.T.A.R>S only existed within raccoon City, and now I find out that that was all retconned to now mean that S.T.A.R.S is a National Organisation. *humph*

Not all of it.

Jill's Birthday is unknown, for instance, but the fact that S.T.A.R.S is a National Organisation has now been entered into the series canon (though it is only briefly mentioned in the REmake Strategy Guide by BradyGames).

Then it could be that NYPD was first with the unit?

Also, since the timeline appears on the series site in europe you would believe in it.

N.Y.P.D might have had the first S.T.A.R.S units, but there is nothing official that has ever stated it.

The Bradygames Guide was written by Dan Birlew, and he was contacted recently, and it turns out that the guides have to be Okeyed by Capcom themselves first. So we know that what the guides say is true.

But the Official Websites don't always get this treatment. They are built by random groups that are the best at building what Capcom want at the time.

The Timeline on the official site is a fanmade timeline that has many official elements within it, but also many un-official elements.

REmake retconned the idea that S.T.A.R.S was local to Raccoon City, but that is all. Nothing has since been stated about when S.T.A.R.S first arrised, or which city it started in.
