Namco Bandai Producer Katsuhiro Harada embarrasses Capcom
Quote:
|
"Actually this is something my bosses have been asking me for quite a while now - what are our plans for DLC? How much money can we make? They are a company, obviously, in it to make money. So it's something I'm continually asked even now. But I haven't changed my stance. If you're making a fighting game, all of the elements necessary to enjoy it should be on the disc, or should at least be available for free."

Now this guy knows how valuable consumer relations and fan support is. It's stuff like this that makes people really want to buy a product.

Haven't Capcom said it will no longer put locked content on disc?
As for DLC I see not problem charging for it as long as it is reasonably priced as you have the option to buy or not to buy.

Charging for alternate costumes was never ok, the companies just made you think it was.

Like i said if priced right and I think it's worth it I will buy.
I did not like the price of alternate costumes so I did not buy.
I would have been more incline to pay if their were new extra characters as long as they are reasonably priced and not disc locked.
Never liked disc locked suff but I understood why they did it when comapnies like EA and THQ get away with it.

I just think some companies are using it too cash-in on titles too much.

Somewhat true.
Eventualy there needs to be a balance between already existing ingame bonuses and DLC.If there are to much DLCs gamers get angry,if there is an average number of bonuses like in the past then additional DLC content should be purely an expansion rather than something missing out from the game.
For example:ORC, there were no bonuses at all.All the costumes, bonus missions and weapons were DLC.Tought with those the game still seems to be missing parts out(endings of both scenarios indicate that theres more unfinished after to follow).

Of course it is; an alternate costume is a frivolity. If it were something like an extra character, that's not ok. I wouldn't buy an alternate costume, but if you do, you only have yourself to blame.
DLC depends on the game. As I've said before, the only DLC I've bought was for Alan Wake - oh and some map packs on MW2 that I never played (oops).
But Alan Wake was very enjoyable to me, and I felt like I got and played an entire game, and that the DLC was indeed an extension.

Never been that into DLC.
Costumes is one thing (depending on price) but characters, especially for a fighting game a huge no-no. Harada has a good stance on it. I think he gave the example of it being as if someone charged you for chess pieces - it just doesn't make sense.
BlazBlue was not any better with the prices they were asking for just one character (€5, or something).
The only DLC I purchased was for FFXIII-2. That's it. All this reliance on DLC has made me very suspicious of most titles.

This is actually more of an embarrassment to his superiors rather than being aimed at Capcom, but I suppose anyone who wishes to fight AGAINST his statement is in the same barrel.
I Don't mind DLC, just as long as it expands on gameplay, it's annoying to see literally hundreds of DLC items that are released sporadically, and they are just vanity items or weapons/abilities that are easily outclassed in the later stages of most games, these should be stuck to item bundles.
I've never seen Capcom DLC as being an outright rip-off, but I have seen it as insulting, when I have to wait for content just out of reach, when pirates get all the content and the game for free, it's giving the pirates a better experience than legitimate consumers who wish to support the industry.
I think season passes are the way forward, I had a lot of fun with Mortal Kombat's season pass last summer, it was the best way to go; Free costumes for those who don't want to the DLC character but download the patch. Characters released every few weeks and that made multiplayer interesting and varied.
Well, at least Capcom have announced they are reviewing things, what happens next is a different story, I'm just hoping it means that less corners are cut and games have more completion awards.
