However, the game is limited to the Japanese/Hong Kong PSN for now, as it's to commemorate the release of Advent Children Complete in Japan next week.
You can however, still download the title, but prepare to play it in Japanese. There is no English language support.
With Advent Children Complete not scheduled for release in western regions for a while, this could imply that we may have to wait a while for this re-release of FFVII as well.
For someone such as myself, who loved the original and could never really find it anymore, this is a step in the right direction, despite Japanese PSOne Classics taking yonks to release elsewhere (if at all due to legalities).
Thoughts? Do you plan on downloading it now or waiting (if you don't own a hard copy)?

I never owned a FF game apart from CC and DoC

Strange, you have two of the "Compilation of FFVII" titles, and yet you haven't played the life and soul of the entire sub-franchise? ;P
Although, I could be wrong and you've played the game but never got round to owning it.
Either way, I think this is brilliant news for those still searching for a copy, due to various wild prices around the 'net, and in-store sales non-existant.
Well, its safe to say that the PS3 has effectively won the console war, given the amount of people convinced that FF7 is "teh bezt game evar" they'll probably be shipping consoles by the thousands. Im actually quite annoyed by this move, fair enough, people who have discs that dont work or cannot buy it will have the chance to play it again, but, this has effectively nulled any chance of new games being considered equal or better due to the sheer volume of people pleased with a 12 year old game.
I still have 7 on disc or should i say disc's.
And it won't play on my Ps3 same as FFVIII, yet it will play all other ps1 games.
I won't be downloading it as i can only read english :(

People are still clamouring for the Final Fantasy VII remake teased and spoken of for many years now. If anything, Sony securing that as an exclusive would be MASSIVE, rather than just a re-print of Final Fantasy VII. However, this re-print could well shift consoles on its own, just as you said. The demand for the game is still fairly big, even this far on.
Count me in if this PSN version isn't hella squashed 50hz nonsense.

I've only played it but not own it. You're right.:D
I love FF7, but the original should never make the PS3 sell better. I mean, the biggest fans probably still have the disc copy (and maybe a second copy as back-up or as a "mint" copy). Or maybe they'll just be waiting for the remake (which we don't think will happen, but we can dream)....did I just switch from they to we? My secret is out...:spy:
Yes, most of the fans have the original on disc, but this PSN version can be played on the PSP as well. I'm getting it!

I'd get it. And I still have a working disc copy. And I'd also get the PS3 remake.
I love this game. LOVE IT.
