Hello everyone,

I though this area needed a lot more interested so decided on writting up about what happened at the event. Anyone else that want to add to this with their own experiences of event feel free to. I hope it will help others like me decide if they want to get the game.

The day started off with a glorious sunny day but it soon became very windy. As I made my way too soon to the area I ended up going to a few shops around the local King's Mall. When I arrived at around 2 pm I was greeted by a very friendly CAPCOMnite which led me to the room. There wss one other person playing the tutorial when I arrived. I was invited to find a seat and start playing which I happily did.

I decided to try the tutorial first too as I was really terrible at playing Rearmed. After a few minutes trying it decided it was time to go into the real game. The tutorial has a machine which can be used to choose specific tutorials after getting hang of basic functions. At this time a few more people had arrived and started playing tutorial. The nice CAPCOM staff also put some Bionic tunes in the background to add to the atmosphere.

The game starts off with backstory to what happened to Bionic soldiers. It's very handy as it all leads to the story in the game. After it beging by finding where the bionic arm was put. It's still a bit of an introduction to the game as it is fairly easy. After this there was a moment where it felt like poor Spencer was already making his way to a crushing death. It was fortunate that he had some strong boots which meant he escaped death. It felt a bit like the jump of faith from Assassin's Creed but without the haystack.

The swinging in this game is very easy and completely different from how it works in Rearmed. In Rearmed when swinging stopped it meant being stuck in that area which usualy was followed by Spencer falling into spikes. With this game momentum can be regained by moving stick forwards/backwars. The new technique involves letting go of trigger at right time in order to advance far enough into another object. The grapple automaticaly locks on any object/area that can it can hold on to.

As for how game works it is about going from a to b by following markers on a map.The challenges involved doing tasks like deactivating mines and crashing into pipes to advance into new areas. The city is filled with all kinds of dangers such as radioactive areas. These must be avoided at all costs and usualy mean finding alternate paths such as tunnels. In further sections that are flooded it is vital not to drop in the water. The water does not mean an instant kill but it is very hard to try and get out using grapple as there is a timer. It was slightly confusing to not see a health bar, but when hurt the screen would turn a shade of darker red, with more damage taken. There are various checkpoints spread throughout the game meaning dying will not equal beginning of level. They are very handy as further challenges have tougher enemies.

In the beginning enemies are fairly easy to defeat but more advanced mechanical robots appear. These involved using a specific skill in order to defeat them. There are different types of enemies but mercenaries seem to be the norm around city. In terms of weapons avaiable they kept appearing throughout city when challenges were finished. Not much progress was done due to spending so much fun playing multiplayer.

When it came to the multiplayer it was problably what I got into the most. It consists of the usual modes such as deathmatch and get the flag. All the maps we played were quite short in size but provided some interesting combat areas. All all moves from game were avaiable it turned into swinging and shooting madness. It was a blast with full 8 player matches and the CAPCOM guys even joined in. Some of the weapons are so powerful that one blast can take out a couple of opponents! It was definetly a lot of fun and something I will be on for sure come May. There was a talk of levelling up online but it wasn't in our offline matches. Would be nice to get new characters when reaching new levels and other rewards.

When it was time to go the brilliant guys at CAPCOM had a surprise in the form of some cool Bionic gifts. There were items like tshirts, posters, socks, etc. It was good enough to be able to play game almost 2 months early! I came with the goal of trying out the game as I wasn't sure on getting it. I came with the idea it would be hard as nails like Rearmed. However, it was the complete opposite as the swinging is very easy to get used and game was beyong my expectations. In fact swinging felt a lot like in the Spider Man 3 game if it is of help to anyone.

After while waiting for the bus I seen something which deserved a picture. It was a couple of girls holding a bunch of Mickey Mouse ballons which was really funny. It was either going to be one special birthday or for a Walter Disney fan.

Warning!Warning! The following picture contains lots of Mickey Mouse ballons.

Hope it is of help to anyone undecided on getting the game and that it wasn't too long.I will also add more info if that's even possible on my website and add link here. :)

If anyone has any questions about the game please ask as one of us that went could happily answer them. I asked about any plans for a special edition but no plans at the moment.

Well my day began with me being ready to leave with enough time to arrive an hour early, unfortuantly Kingsampson whom i was comming as well ended up breaking his already broken foot by stepping on the curb at a wierd angle, which ment I could either abandon the first to play event or go on without him, guess which one i chose!

Anyways I ended up being about half an hour late but I got to use the phone, which was one of my main objectives for the day, Mao who works at capcom then came to take me where everyone was playing but cause i was late i had to wait a bit, but I already packed Monster Hunter so the wait was not boring! Anyways he comes back after a couple of minutes and I tell him all about my brilliant idea, to which he doenst think will work, thus creating an eternal hatred for him! Well prehaps not eternal but atleast till the end of next week. Get into the room and have to explain why I am late to a very angry Capcom crew (not really).

The game itself starts with a demo, which although i grasped the basics quite quickly it still takes a while to get used to releasing at the right time and swinging from things that are not directly above you, i didnt have much time to practise before we started multiplayer.

The multiplayer is really good, of course you can choose to just run around everywhere which i did at first but there are some cool combat techniques you can use with the grapple hook and swinging, and once you are used to shoot whislt in midair the game becomes a whole lot more fun. My session had Captin Coretez and a friend of his plus some guy who used to work for EA or so he claims, the Captin was a high scorer and although I was comming in last place and second last, he was comming first and so Tenebra gave him some socks.

We then did some team battles, us vs. Capcom and I am pleased to say we beat em!! We also did capture the flag and i must say this is the mode i enjoyed the most, because of the swigning mechanic it makes the age old capture the flag seem so much fresher, it really works well as you can find places to hide and escape from pursers much easier than you can a normal shooting game.

The weapons that the game offers are also quite cool as the work well with the swiging mechanic, for example, the shotgun is a bit useless as your enemy can just swing to get some distance but if someone trys to zip kick you (a move which the grapple on to you the zoom towards you and kick you far) the you can just shoot em point blank with a well timed shotgun to the face. Also the grenade laucher can be used to shoot down ppl defending the flag without exposing yourself ans you can just swing backwards and then forwards, in and out of view from the defenders, and just blast a single shot to do massive damage while they with their machinguns would have to get a higher angle to be able to damge you luring them away from the flag!

After the gaming was done we chatted with Tenebra bout the easter egg comp and the Captin had won a t-shirt so she went and got it for him and i asked how come I havnt found any easter eggs and apparntly I had found a ticket for the final draw which is cool. We got a poster which was signed from Ben who was one of the capcom guys we played against, but had I know we would get a poster i would have asked some of the others to sign as well, oh well its still cool.

I never actually got to play single player campaign but from what i saw on other ppls screens it looks really nice, though i can definantly vouch for the mulitplayer and the gameplay, great party game I think, would need something more than just a ranking system for me to play it online with anyone other than friends to the extent i play some other games online but even just a couple of achievments would do it as it is definatnly fun.

Thank you and if it helps the game also starts off with a nice sunny day but it soon gets spoiled by the highly dangerous radioactive contaminated air around town. :D

Will have to edit that spelling mistake that I just spotted in your quote and thank you for taking the time to write some impressions too Sinister.

I don't see why it won't get Home support, I am sure that will be announced in time. I or some one will keep the forum up to date on any new info.

As the game was built on PC using the MT framework both versions should be very close if not identicle.

welcome to capcom europe.

Bionic Commando was not built on MT Framework, it was built on GRiNs own proprietary engine, Diesel. You can see the engine in action in the recently released WANTED: Weapons of Fate.

Sorry mate but there was only the xbox 360 version avaiable to try at the event. I would imagine there are almost no differences but for how the controls are mapped on game pads. I will try and see if anyone that knows about it would like to answer those questions better for you. :)

Nearly a month to go until we can all go swinging in the steel jungle. Thanks for covering up my mistake Arrows. :D

My day started 4:30 AM (3:30 AM UK time), with me getting up, grabbing a shower, getting on a bus, taking a flight from Norway to London... and it ended with me taking a flight at 7:30 PM (UK time) back to Norway again on the same day. Aaaah, the joy of traveling!

It was an absolutely awesome day. It just snuck itself up on me a bit out of nowhere, though. As I've said before; I really do wish I would've had more time to spend in London. I did go to King's Mall myself too. Picked up MadWorld (Wii) and Golden Axe: Beast Rider (360), and maybe I say the latter is much more enjoyable than whatever the reviewers must've been playing. (Guess it didn't survive the "Western Studio with Japanese IP! INSTAFAIL!" test that Bionic Commando fought itself through with the awesomeness of Rearmed!)

So, for those of you who were there on the 7th of April (and anyone else around here for that matter), will I be seeing any of you online once the demo hits the Xbox LIVE Marketplace? (or when the retail version is out)

@Sinister: out of curiosity; were there on the 8th of April? So there was another former EA man/woman there the day after I was there? :D Did he/she reveal where (s)he'd worked? Just curious, 'cause I have a bit of an on and off work relationship with EA myself

Your amazing for doing such a long trip to play the game Carnivol. I will most certainly be playing online and you know my tag. The retail game will be my own gift as a way of celebrating getting through all 8 exams in May! :D

I agree that Golden Axe Beast Warrior is a very fine game and nothing like what most people make it out to be. I guess we both bought it for £10 in the sales.
