So folks going to comic con next week have apparently been promised "Fantastic" news regarding MvC3. Am i taking this too literally? Are we getting new fighters....dare i ask...the Fantastic 4? Could just be something like a new version of the game launching, but after the Arcade DLC and disc releases im hoping for the same treatment here.

Yeah Capcom are going to charge you to play their game online. You have to pay for every fight individually :)
Nice!
Looking forward to some new characters and stages. :D
...hopefully Stider!!!
Well, I've lost all interest in MvsC3, about the only thing this news can do for me is reignite my interest if the news truly is good (Patches, rebalancing, new free features), or snuff it out completely if its anything else.
Super Marvel Vs Capcom 3 will upset a lot of people, considering the support for the current version has been outright abysmal.
If the current version gets a tonne of love over these next few months, and I mean, new features across the board with new characters, costumes, as well as having the gameplay tweaked through patches and rebalancing, and made in to a game of skill and not just using "those three characters" that have unbreakable combos and over powered hypers, then I'll be happy to see a future version with more features. Otherwise, I'll be all too happy to wait for SFxT.

I guess they're just using Marvel words like theyve done before with Amazing and Spectacular and even Viewtiful for Capcom side
Having just the fantastic four would be weird and awful. We got Skrull to replace them and personally i hate F4. not to mention it would mean more Marvel than Capcom
but anyways im not expecting anything much. MvC3 was hyped to be godly and look how it turned out
but if it was meant to symbolize getting 4 new characters (or 4 per side lol) I'd go for Frank West, Red Arremer, Ms. Marvel and Doctor Octopus (I love cable and cyclops and gambit and megaman and venom and all but please give newcomers) and next up Phoenix Wright, Strider, Doctor Strange and Mysterio
EDIT: Oh and I forgot that if it meant 4 characters would cost $20 (or 8 and $40) that's just wrong and no way I'm buying no matter who. $10 for 4 characters would be bearable depending on who will get in

New Fighters and some tweaks to break some of the more "broken" combos would be good enough for me, id love to see more game modes but i dont think that will happen unless they do another disc based version. I think Dante hit the nail on the head when he mentions "those three characters" because in a world of very competitive and lets face it, cheap people online why would they get good with every fighter if they can use the same combo over and over to get the wins?
Im hopefull purely because id all but given up on the title until this news arrived. Maybe i was being just a tad literal with my "fantastic" thing but yeah, some of the ones we have seen rumours of (Frank West, Doc Oc, Megaman, Strider) would be most welcome. I dont think the game needs the Fantastic 4, but, if they where done properly and made to be unique enough then they could be a fun addition.

(Frank West, Doc Oc, Megaman, Strider)
Hmm. Quite interesting image imaginging those working together like Fantastic Four. Problem is that's 3 Capcom vs 1 Marvel
But selling them $5 each or as $20 pack would certainly cause Edit language because they're not really new new material. I'm not sure if I would pay that for Frank and Doc even though I'd love them in and they would go somewhere in my 9 quick team slots

Far from a confirmation, but Gamespot are now reporting that the "Fantastic" news is actually a new disc based game "Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3". Apparently its set to include new modes, 12 new fighters (only 10 really as they count Jill and Shuma Gorath) and the price point is $40 (around £25-30). No news of if this will be released as dlc ala Streetfighters arcade edition stuff or if its more along the lines of Super and needs its own disc due to code being rewritten.
What does everyone think? Would you buy another version of MvC3 at a lower price point or has everyone pretty much finished with the series? Im willing to give it a try but i know others had some strong views on this.

Honestly that would be better than simple DLC. $40 for a full update against $5 for single characters is no brainer.
Of course that depends whether new modes mean something stupid like Shadow and the half assed Event mode. But if they were cool stuff like Survival, Time Attack, Vs CPU, 4 player local multiplayer (Versus AND Co-op, my "people" play co-op modes more than versus), real Event mode (think Mortal Kombat or Super Smash) and better I'd be very sold. Adding 10 characters (for example Frank, Strider, Doc Ock, Megaman, Daredevil, Ms Marvel, Phoenix Wright, Red Arremer, Venom, Cyclops) on top of that would be a huge plus.
I'd also hope they update and improve the game otherwise too (more and better unlockables that take longer to unlock, cutscenes into story mode making it understandable, balancing fighters, spectator and replays, simply improving user interface (training requiring looking for movelists ugh) and I can't emphasize having more iconic and diverse stages enough. I really hate how only Asgard and Demon Village resemble the essence of specific characters while the 2 cheap carnival levels make no sense except being cheap "lets feature 15 characters so they don't need their own stages" and Hand Hideout, Streets, Helicarrier, Tricell atleast from what I can remember are very obscure choices)
I'd love if every mode (Survival, Time Attack...) were playable in (local) multiplayer too. Playing 2 or 3 player co-op against CPU or 1 player would be a blast.
Thank god I haven't bought the DLC except for 1 Shadow mode pack. So if Capcom could actually complete their MvC3 I'd be very interested. But it's definitely not a 1st day buy.

Just read the article and I didn't see anything saying there would be new modes.
So I'll say what I've said before: 38 is a nice number of characters but right now there is nowhere to use them without online. Storymode gets into dull grinding as does 1vs1 versus mode. Infact I would go as far as to say the game needs more new stages than new characters (if 3 stages equals 1 character)
So just 10 new characters is no purchase. The game needs new modes.
But this is indeed curious, especially if the new characters all end up being ones like Doc Ock, Frank West, Ghost Rider and Strider who were obviously planned and mostly even done to some extent. If that was the case this would really be the game MvC3 was supposed to be originally. Like releasing the originally planned final product, which would be just sad and obvious moneygrubbing.

Hey we have gotten nothing but rumors in months. So prepare yourself because I'm going crazy:
Ultimate edition minimum (which I'd buy it for) extras:
1. 10 new characters (Frank West, Daredevil, Ms. Marvel and Doc Ock are the important bits, more Capcom villains being very welcome)
- Each having their own endings and unlocks
2. New Modes
- Survival
- Time attack (Going for best completion time, not against running down clock)
- Vs CPU
- Duel (1-on-1 instead of 3-on-3)
- 4 player local multiplayer (2vs2, 3vs1, 3vsCPU, 2vs1, 2vsCPU)
3. More Stages (5-10)
- Stark Tower, Court House, X-Mansion, Gamma Reactor, Devil May Cry Chapel, Arkalay Mansion, Vieftiful Joe Film Studio, Shanty Town for example.
4. Other
- General and character/team specific records (If every high time/score is made with same overpowered teams the interest of modes falls quickly)
Maximum Carnage (no chance):
1. 30 new characters to equal/top what MvC2 had.
2. New Modes:
- Final Fight sidescrolling beat-em up for 1-4 players
- Tournament/League for 2-16 players or CPUs. Knockout rounds or season standings.
- Career. Choose a character with limited moves. Build teams, win matches, unlock moves and extras. Become #1
- Event. Real spesific challenges like Beat superpowered Dr Doom, Beat 30 unarmored Arthurs, Beat the enemy without using specials...
- Smash Bros for 1-4 players. Up to 4 teams fight on big multilevel stages.
3. More Stages
- 50-100, atleast 1 homestage for every playable characters, plus more for the names not in as playables (Dark Void, Breath of Fire, Onimusha...) to feature them too.
4. Overhaul
- Re-balance
- Improve UI (training showing move keys instead of going to start menu)
- Add more statistics and reserve teams
- Add more unlocks (more art, comics, audio, video, more outfits)
- Re-do the story mode adding atleast an intro for it and better endings, plus intro for Galactus)
- Add options like disable assists, hypers or projectiles, super speed/slowmo, screen filters...

You are a little dreamer, but I like your dream. ;)
However, most of your points will never happen to "Marvel vs Capcom 3 EX".
More Stages, Characters, Online-Modes and Unlockables yes, but don´t expect too much, CAPCOM is not going to make it that big.

Ultimate MvC3 is real. Strider is INNNNN! Though I am happy for that, I still doubt I will even play the game. Standard MvC3 wasn't my cup of tea after all so I doubt the refinements will draw me in. But hey, Strider is in!

Looking forward to playing as Ghost Rider and Strider, after seeing the full list of unannouced fighters though i am a little disapointed not to see Venom, Gambit, Cable or Demitri in there. Still, with 50 fighters to choose from its not like i have any real reason to complain lol

Honestly that maximum carnage list is more towards MvC4 so no I'm not expecting that much
The 10 characters (plus I hope this time they can make some DLC characters for reasonable prices: Doc Ock, Daredevil, Ms. Marvel, Megaman X, Captain Blue and Cody from Final Fight are all still on wishlist), 5-10 stages, some sort of long lasting unlockables and a couple of modes is the important bit

What? Money grabbing conspiracies?
If you didn't know that's customer feedback, and not just from 1 or 2 people so it's hardly trolling or unfounded. Many are dissapointed with how rushed MvC3 was and have lost faith (if they had it in first place) in UMvC3. If you think this is just general flaming of Capcom I can tell you that look at SFIV. It also has some of the same issues but atleast it has the modes, balance and **** to call it a complete game MvC3 is missing.
Who is still praising MvC3 as the best fighting game out there? Even with the hardcore license and crossover character it still falls flat next to competition, including SFIV. MvC3 articles around web have way more negative comments than most other fighters.
I'm curious whether UMvC3 will be the final, finished, thorough, ultimate version or if it will be just 1.1 update with more coming later on.
Yea I paid for the game and am not asking for refund. I'm just asking Capcom to finally make the complete MvC3 (can still be expanded with DLC characters, modes and such) and not another half-assed update that relies entirely on the roster.
Personally I don't care so much about roster expansion (36-38 is plenty) when there are much bigger issues with lacking modes, poor and easy to get unlockables, half-executed story, balance and bugs. Even the lack of stages is bigger issue than roster IMO (but I think 8 new ones will solve it just nicely as long as they're not all the same dark backgrounds). I see plenty of rotation in characters and teams but stages start to repeat really fast.

It's like hoping that they learn but some of us always end up dissapointed. Capcom always finding some "marvelous" new systems, the newest being the undeletable saves in RE:Mercenaries

To be fair Capcom tried that, got burned and have went on record to say they wont be doing it again. As long as they are willing to learn from their mistakes then thats fine. Users voted with their wallets, the game sold poorly, if enough people boycott UMvC3 then im sure the same will happen. Gaming boycotts never work
"I'm gonna boycot Activision... as soon as I've bought Black Ops", "I'm gonna boycot Ubisoft... as soon as I've bought the latest Assassin's Creed"
Even here we got people saying they'll buy multiple UMvC3s to get all the preorder bonuses, I doubt it was a joke.
$40 for UMvC3 isn't that much itself, but most of us have already bought the original MvC3 for $50ish give or take 20. So the people who are gonna enjoy UMvC3 the most - people who never bought MvC3.
And that is why you (I, we, them, whoever) should never buy Capcom games new. There's an over 50% chance there will be a new, better edition at lower price while the original game is rushed with expensive DLC.
I know because I didn't buy Resident Evil 5 before it got the Gold Edition. I think it was an amazing deal and game, but I can well understand the people who bought the original "half game" and ending up paying near $100 for the complete package. With MvC3 I got carried away by all the "there's never been "Super Turbo Alpha Ex" editions for MvC" talk and the long awaited MvC2 sequel hypetrain

Exactly, forgot to list that "boycott"
Difference is though that there are still viable reasons to own both L4D1&2. Different campaigns, characters and general athmosphere is unique in each.
MvC3 will be simply inferior to UMvC3 unless Capcom manages to screw something up with their "minor tweaks". And I'm sure there will be some group saying MvC3 has superior gameplay.
