View Full Version : How often would you visit a real life Gathering Hall to play Monster Hunter?

I only ask because we're going to create one this summer. That's right, people, we're going to build AN ACTUAL REAL LIFE OH MY GOSH GATHERING HALL IN CENTRAL LONDON!
Ok, that was a lie. We're not building one. What we're actually doing is taking over a space in a very central location that will be a dedicated space that you can visit to play Monster Hunter, meet other players, chill out, learn a bit about the game and get help building that obscene Nargacaruga armour (though obviously as pros we all know that the Mehlua armour offers the same skills at a fraction of the cost, and looks sexier to boot.) We're also looking into the technicalities of exclusive downloadable quests for attendees, though we can't promise anything at the moment. If we can't make that happen we'll find some other way to lure you in.
We haven't announced this anywhere yet, we wanted you guys to be the first to know. The rough plan of attack is to have the space ready before the summer holidays begin. It will be within a couple of minutes of a major Zone 1 tube station and plenty of bus routes and will be clean and comfortable. Beyond that, there's not a huge amount I can tell you about it for now. The important thing is that you'll have the opportunity to play with more than just the three people (I'm guessing) you play with now.
In Tokyo, it's much easier to sit down and play with people on the tube or in the streets. It's cleaner there, and safer, and it rains less. Hopefully our Gathering Hall will make what occurs naturally in Japan just a little bit easier here. And also, you'll finally be able to show people your Gold Cat Hammer that you spent so much time making but got so little credit for. Well, I will.
Obviously the Monster Hunter of choice will be Freedom Unite, but Freedom and Freedom 2 players will also be welcome (though probably in the minority).
Let us know what you think. I expect we'll run various tutorial events teaching newcomers the basics but what else would you like to see? Lance-only nights? Rathian-only nights? (That one for Sinister ) Armour-building nights? No themed nights? Meet the developer nights? Get free stuff nights? Hawaiin shirt nights? No boys allowed nights? (They'll be pretty quiet, I imagine.) All suggestions welcome!
god, i wish i was living in the UK right now T_T
god, i wish i was living in the UK right now T_T
Same over here. D: Makes me wish Portugal was just about next to the UK.
I'd so dedicate my free weekends to helping out people in Monster Hunter, because it's so worth it.
If anything, greatsword up-swing only nights, I'd brace for some priceless moments. I'm joking, of course. We all know that people hate to be up-swinged, but let's admit it, it can provide some funny moments and can save you when you least expect it. :x
you have the full support of the harrow hunters on this one, as we live in central london we can definiantly come along often, give me a pm or e-mail if you need any help setting up or need a hardcore monster hunter's opinion on things, il be more than willing to help you guys set this up!!
just so you know I have a holaday lined up for 1st of may for 3 weeks, wouldnt mind doing some unpaid monster hunter work! plus if i gets my new job i can provide extra security for the venue!
P.S. Ninja rat armour rocks and is like way easy to make, though playing in japanese means i dont know what the other armour is so i cant make a comparison

I'd come down to shout at all these people who now own MHF's but never owned MH. DAMN you all!
Only joking. I'd be tempted but I've never been a portable player. Get Capcom to put the servers up and throw some PS2's around so we can go old school and ill come.

Hear, hear!
Heh, the amount of MHF fans I had to correct over the years in regards to MHF being the "first" Monster Hunter game literally had me seething. Only for a MH1 owner to ask for assistance with Fatalis for some young MHF player to quip "Fatalis can be Soloed easy!"
As much as I love any Monster Hunter fan, MHF-only owners really do test my patience. :p I suppose I am still bitter about being left in the dark for so long.
i hope some japanese guy will go so he can teach me how to play frontier, that game is like 0% english but 80% text :(
i wanna fight an espina so bad!
p.s. im a freedom only guy :(

You love Freedom more ? Why ?? On Freedom if u got everything u want theres no need to play anymore, its not even fun then.
On PS2 u could go for record boards, which is a long time motivation after u got everything u want.
IMO
I got stuck figuring out what to do at the dalleto site, i play japanese portable 2nd so there no problem with the game itself, its just setting up the accounts etc.

im sorry :(
competing on times with your friends, training not to rust (i've been slacking this duty lately XD), making weapons just for the sake of it, collecting money and pokke points for united, you have a lot to do after you clear the game, about record boars, compete on times and points with friends and it really should make you busy XD
though i do get your point, sometimes i feel a bit like that too.
training not to rust (i've been slacking this duty lately XD)
The force is weak in.. me as well. : < It's a pity that I'm also gaining rust on these ol' MH joints of mine (not really, but, getting there). I can't say that I haven't got anyone to play with, as I've got a couple of neighbours whom I inflicted the MH-virus with, to play with. The sad part is, while it's all fun and games, seeing the same people not learn from their same mistakes every time, makes it boring quick. D:
Seriously, Capcom needs to organize some Gathering Hall-esque places around Europe (doesn't matter if they're small) for people to gather up and find new faces and players, that always makes it feel more fresh~.

If they would set up some halls, it would be no use for me anyway  If the games r released here i already finished the jpn version 100%, n playing em twice is kinda boring ( for me ).
If they get some halls, then the only thing left to do is a simultanous release worldwide. Then id have fun in such a hall aswell. BUT 1 thing, DONT PLAY CAT MUSIC !!!!!!!!!!!! :D:D:D ( i detest it lol )

It's definitely going to happen! We've got just a couple more things to sort out and then we can 'officially' announce it. You'll be able to go on Monster Hunter holidays in central London!

well i live really far from london, if i can i might try and make it. but its kinda doubtful
BTW if i did go it would be cool if you could get a special armour set or something. if not an armour set then maybe a costume for your cat fighter, maybe something like this (http://wyvernsmasher.deviantart.com/art/Akuma-s-new-pupil-119321047)(i drew it BTW)
but make it so everyone that didnt go can still get it, but they'll have to wait a bit before it's available to download.
oh if i lived in London or were an adult... i would prolly make it...
tell me everything about it when its over :D
It will be open through July and August (the school Holidays) so we hope to see a few of you further away from London pestering your Mums, Dads and bigger brothers and Sisters to take you down to London for the day! We'll be open every day from 10am -8pm. So come into London and pop in and see us! It'll be better than being dragged around the shops after all!
Don't worry if you can't make it. Why don't your organise your own meets locally either through this website or one of the fantastic Monster Hunter sites that will be live shortly? Maybe even set up a club at school, College or Uni...
We want the whole world playing this fantastic game :-)

yep, great idea, onlyoneyet !
I cant make it.. :( i would love to come there!!!! :'(
I am already advertising for MHFU, i wanna convince all my psp-owning friends to buy it! because it is much different than any other game...
because.. i dont know if anyone of you feels like me... when i play alone for example battlefield 2 online, alone, it feels like a lost time.. but when i play mh with my friends who already have it it is so much fun, not only playing it, you are together with your friends and everytime we play this game we cant stop laughing because one of my friends always just does bullshit :D
I hope i can convince the rest of my friends.. or maybe confince some to even buy a psp with mhfu :)

If you set one up in Sheffield i would go anytime i could =]
It's been about a month since this topic was posted, so I'm wondering if there was a bit more info to go around.
@Leo: do you guys have any idea how long this thing would be run? I was guessing it was just gonna be during the summer vacation, because that would be the time to get in a lot of students.
Either ways, I'm planning on coming to England for this at least once this summer. 8D
U shud set 1 up in every county in the country!
I wud probably go to this thing if it was in Australia!
But seriously, MAKE ONE IN WARWICKSHIRE!
We're just finalising details, but it looks like we'll soon be able to announce more information including the location of the venue and some of the events we have going on. We're speaking to some of the magazines whoe are desperate to come along and host their own evenings and to play with you guys.
If the London Gathering Hall is a success we'll look at spinning out the idea to other areas of the country (yes Dexter even Warwickshire!). We'll also make it much easier for you guys to organise your local meets by giving away posters where you can write the details of a meeting place and time that you can stick up at school, work... even the pub if the landlord will let you!
A cool idea we've had is that you'll be able to order the demo from the Monster Hunter website, we won't just give you one UMD but we'll give you 4 which you can share with mates and show them how much fun Monster Hunter can be when played together...

So yea not got anyone to play MH with right now
So hurry up :) Its WAY more fun with other people.
Then there are so many different events they could hold. Bowgun only nights, Elder dragon nights etc etc
Oh my god........Bloody AMAZING!!!!!
I cant wait for this!!! I'll be there for the WHOLE DAY!! I nearly wet myself, I squeeled like a little girl :D
I can not wait to play with other people =]

so glad my uni is in hertfordshire for closeyness!
You over at Hatfield Raine?
We have a couple of Monster Hunters at the Uni there, and another that works here and is due to return there for his final year.
We're also just securing some of the development team who'll be over at the gathering hall to answer any questions and even play MHFU with you.

I guess that I am too late to join the monster hunting party as I don't even have a PSP. The idea does sounds very cool though as it's so hard to find anyone that plays handhelds in London! :D
Never seen anyone playing a handheld in my Uni but there's a games room where a few of us play games in sometimes. In the last month Street Fighter proved to be very popular.
You guys should do a monster hunter for the DS so I can join in. :p
Haha you'll just have to buy a PSP to join in :D
Everyone else will be playing it Charmed, do you really want to miss out?!

after meeting the Capcom guys at the MCM expo yesterday this was fantastic news for me as after being such a fan of MH the portables were a sad case for me. I gave up on freedom 2, solo just wasnt the same. Therefore I have no good weapons or armor :'( so I am super stoked to hang out with like minds and help me get back on track.
For anyone who doesnt know the Gathering Hall will be at 121 Charing cross road, 10 am - 8pm everyday as from the 1st July.
apparently for only 2 months!!!! we need this place to stay open!!!

Been to Tokyo Twice, last time was 2 months after Monster Hunter 2nd G released....
The subway and the McDonalds were gathering places for Monhan fans xD.
I was sitting in the Mac in Akihabara, and 2 girls and 2 guys were playing 2nd G there while enjoying their happy meals xD.
@ every metrostation you enter there is are at least 2 people playing their PSP so is in every cabin lol.
PSP's are huge there especially after Monster Hunter released.
Wish it could be just like in Tokyo when Freedom Unite releases here ;_;
I would love to be able to play it in public and meet random people to bring down Fatalis with...

Forget Fatalis, I'm on 10+ G-rank Gold Rathian kills and not a single Heavenly Scale! And I'm wearing the old Gold Rathian armour!
But yeah, I totally echo the sentiment.
