Having just got it (wahey!) I first watched the BluRay movie it came with (wahey!) which looked like it was done by the people who did the original Anime which is excellent rather than that cheap farce Alpha one...

Anyway fired up the PS3, had a go noticed some things, some good some ugly:

It plays quite a bit faster than the old games, which is bad for old tacticians like me and sometimes ends up as "press as many buttons as you can"
Some of the "cartoon" characters (i.e. new ones) are utterly pointless (personal opinion), and (as with SF3) some are nearly impossible to beat as they are way quicker than you can react.
Some characters have the old T.Hawk "only got one move one you can't block it or counter it" rubbish, yet you play as the character and mysteriously the CPU can block and counter with the same character you played as.....
Played against Sagat, obviously worried! Battered him until he had no red in his life bar, then hit him 8 times without him blocking once and he didn't KO. Instead he hit me 4 times and took the 50% life I had straight off and won. How?????
Controller issues. I counted that at least 4 times a round hurricane move resulted in a low sweep (??) and sometimes the controller chose not to respond at all. Like when I was winning against Ken. he stood there with no guard I did the throw command twice and it didn't respond, luckily I ducked his Shoryuken...
Menu music, why is it soooo lame? Why can't we have the music from the series?? (games as well as TV show) reminds me of PES....

I'm going to get a PS2->PS3 controller adapter so I can test some response issues with my Namco arcade stick just to be sure :)

I think the new characters offer some good new styles, breathing added variety not only into matchups but into how you approach the game. I've only played as Abel and Crimson Viper out of the new lot so far and sure I really struggled in some matches, particulary against Seth, but at the same time finally beating him with an Ultra as Abel was one of the most rewarding gaming experiences I've had in a long time.

As for the contoller issues, I've had a similar thing, usually when playing for a long time. All of a sudden nothing will come off, but then I'll 'reset' myself by doing the move while looking at the controller instead of the screen and I'll realise that I wasn't actually (to quote your e.g.) doing the proper motion for a hurricane kick at all, instead I was just falling short of the horizontal at the end, hence screwing up. Just take a breather, go to training or a practise cpu match and all will be well in no time.

IMHO game is well ballanced with all the characters and the new chcatacters brings a new styles of fight which my really be in your advantage against other players if you master them.

controls ?I got Xbox360 version and i made my own arcade stick cos gamepad is not the way to play. If something not going as it should is always me doing shortcuts on moves, and i can't blame controller just me ... i made it myself :) so no excuse.

Music, well i like it so it's matter of love to hate thing. I'm didn't played SF since SSF2 so not really care about the history of the characters. Start and Finish movies are super cheesy and i can hardly understand someone to trying get anything deep from them, apart from DAN. He's awesome and his story is just funny.

Bragoon has having an arcade stick (and well done on that it looks cool) enabled you to be succesful at the Trials? I have just ordered a MadCatz tourny stick so am hoping it is a vast improvement over the inconsistent XBox pad

To be honest i did not finish all the trials. It improves a lot that's for sure, but still skill is needed :) and looks like I'm a bit impatient to finish all the trials :)

I have been studying this frame rate data and it appears to be the secret to the hard trials or will at least help a lot with timing, I am hoping that with a stick it will improve the chances of completing most of the trials.
