View Full Version : Minimum Bandwidth requirement for SF4
I'm a big fan of SF and have being playing it since my NES. My last console was the ps2. I'm going to be upgrading to a ps3 just for the SF4 (which was also the sole reason behind my ps2).
I would like to know whats the minimum bandwidth required for playing SF4 online?
Currently I'm on a 128k DSL (yeah I know its quite slower than most here).

i have a 56k and i can do nothing XD i tried to play RE5 demo online and it disconnected after few seconds
The minimum recemmended speed is 512kbs for online gaming.
some games will run at ok on 128kbs for online but not many
So how much minimum bandwidth do you think a game like SF4 would need in particular?.
With the type of game game it is "Fighter" i would say 512kb as with all fighters as presition is key which come down to needing a better bandwidth

Wow, that's pretty ancient speed you have there. I guess you may some luck with 512kb/s, it all varies to your network and latency on given moment. I suggest to get at least 1MB/s but i don't know what options you have. Which country You from ? In UK it will be a problem to get anything less than 2MB/s but like i said it all depends on your location (even in UK due to how far you are from telecom exchange speed vary). Other thing is that you need to look do you have any max allowances on your data transfer. That can spoil your game when you suddenly reach you max allowance for month. (most of mobile broadband have small limits like 1GB or 2GB per month).
Don't think bandwith matters too much. It should be ok, if your upload and download speed are 128kb. What is important is the latency, or ping. You want it as low as possible. There are some steps you can take to minimise it on you side, like avoid using wireless connection or use it without wpa or any encryption, direct connection via a dsl modem, not using gateway aso.
