It appears we'll be getting costume packs for Marvel vs Capcom 3, in the vein of SSFIV! Jgonzo just posted up shots of MvC3 with Dante wearing a fully-alternate costume of Sparda, and a totally unique version of Captain America with a different shaped shield - as well as an alternate Chris Redfield that appears to be more than a palette swap, too. Will be sold around the same time as Jill/Shuma a month or so after release.

This could open up a whole set of new ideas for alternates - I'd love to see STARS/BSAA Jill as well :D

Edit: The full roster trailer even shows that Dante's Sparda alt has a fully modelled Sparda Devil Trigger mode, too.

Hyped!

Loving the S.T.A.R.S Chris and Legendary Dark Knight Dante....

Ryu is modelled after his SF appearance, and I don't think much of it... And about the only one on the Marvel side I sorta like is Iron man.

Good catch man, thanks for sharing. :)

No problem, as soon as I saw it I thought it'd already be all over the forum :D

I love DMC, and LDK was dumped with DMC4 so I'm happy to see him back.

I just hope you can unlock multi-character select so I can have Dante/Sparda combo ;)

Little disappointed Ryu's alternate isn't Ken, though.

Cool but 400 points for 6 costumes, that's a lot o money to have every alternate costume.

Hoping for Zero series costume for Zero :worthy:

Yeah, I mean it's pretty much been the same with SSFIV. But then, I'm willing to shell out when it's MvC3, especially if theyre going to be high quality ones.

I too hope for MMZ alt for Zero :)

Imagine, with DLC we could even end up with both Classic AND X versions of Megaman, if he gets added.

I was a bit disappointed with the idea of just colour swaps, but they've actually done good jobs at the colours and we'll have full alts as well. This could open up a fair amount of sub-character alts (in the style of LDK) which could give us a selection of characters that didn't quite make the cut as unique characters :D

And about the only one on the Marvel side I sorta like is Iron man.

By the way, are any of the Marvel one's actually alts? Iron Man just looked like a skin swap to me, and as far as I could tell Thor looked the same as always.
Edit: I compared the new images with the older ones, and it is different - just not enough that I noticed. I guess Thor fans will appreciate it more than me.

This is fantastic! Does that mean we can expect to see a proper "classic" skin for Spencer and maybe Chun Li in her Streetfighter Alpha/Zero suit? Is it just me or does Ryu look more like his younger Alpha/Zero self too?

LeonBelmontX
15-02-11, 09:58
Yeah, apparently Ryu is based on the original SF1 version.

I hope we'll be seeing some well thought out alternates - no idea what they'll do for Amaterasu or Felicia!

I'm hoping if we see Megaman as DLC, we'll actually be seeing X and Classic as different looks (or X and EXE or something)

SF1 ryu looks quality! :D

I don't know, maybe i'm the only one who doesn't see the point in spending money for a costume that doesn't improve in any way the experience of a game.

I could understand a DLC with new stages or characters, but only costumes are a way to speculate over our beloved videogames.

Maybe it's still too early to make the move of "we've got new things to sell you in order to add something to a game you don't even have in you hands"

I agree that it's a little early to be seeing DLC for a game we can't even own yet - but that's the way things have been going lately and there's not a lot we can do. I'm just keeping up to date with the news we've been given.

Personally I like alternate outfits in games - while it adds nothing to the engine, it allows for more personalisation and extra homage to the characters and their backgrounds - or even give us the chance to play as a different character (albeit with the same fighting style - for instance I'd be quite happy to see a Ken alternate for Ryu) Of course I'd rather any of the DLC was free - that's only natural. But I'm not going to lie and say I won't buy the stuff, either.

Essentially, the more costumes and characters etc that are available, the more chance people will get the characters they want, in the style they want. I never even imagined LDK would make the game, and I really love the fact that they thought to add it.

Normally id agree, and i didnt buy a lot of the packs for Super Streetfighter 4 because they didnt add anything for me personally except some goofy costumes. With MvC though the costumes have been really well done, we have proper reskinning rather than just pallete swaps and things that are meaningfull. Now we have SF1 Ryu in MvC instead of Ryu with a ripped shirt in SF4, and Chris wearing his Res Evil 1 suit in MvC as opposed to Bison without a hat in SF4.

For me the costumes will never be as important as additional fighters/backgrounds, but they are so well done this time around that i cant help but want to buy them.

SFI Ryu put a huge grin on my face!

Thor's made me actually go "Now that's the Thor I know!" even though I don't mind his default look.

I'm liking Cap's alt. Is it Bucky or an old retro Cap?

Dante's is awesome. 'Nuff said. They will be foolish to give a Vergil alt though...do not do this Capcom! Give us a character instead.

Iron Patriot was something I didn't really expect but it looks cool.

Now I'm guessing Armoured-Spidey will be a given down the line, possibly Ben's Spidey outfit and Scarlet Spider, too! Make it happen! Oh, and 90's Storm please.

I'm sold on the LDK as Capcom went the entire way and granted him Sparda DT. I wish you can buy these individually as I don't want to pay for the lot when I just want Sparda.

This gives me hope of seeing the non-crappy spencer.

Also, MMZ zero please, Captin blue or Alastor joe, STARS wekser, gloria trish and maximo artuhr please.

Won't go into the marval side, too many options.

Thanks for the info Leon! ;)

I'm really loving Ironman's costume. That looks badass, and I swear that was in a comic (The Avengers? Civil War? Can't recall), but it's really looking good.

Also, I really love the fact Sparda can transform into his Legendary Dark Knight form. I couldn't see any pictures of it, but I'm sure it'll be awesome. :D

I'm really hoping Gene will turn up as DLC. That would actually make my day and be an instant purchase (even if every other character sucks).

Please make a proper alternate for Viewtiful Joe - alastor, instead of just a similar colour scheme, as Alastor isn't Alastor without the horns and wings.

Pretty hyped though. My game was shipped out today. :D

Watch the video dude! there's a moment when Dante/Sparda makes his EX and transforms into a demon.

By the way...I would love Carnage getting into this game and having an alt.costume of Anti-Venom. :worthy:

CaptainCortez

I'm on that now. Just loaded it up. ;)

Carnage would be awesome if he's given a crazy amount of moves. I always preferred him to Venom, maybe just for the sheer fact he's mental and more badass!

Edit: That looks pretty awesome, and the Take you for a Ride song, even though it's dire, made me smile at the end when it showed really fast paced gameplay of the extra costumes. :D

Sparda looked pretty awesome. :D

Yeah, Iron Man is based on the "Iron Man Patriot" design (http://images.wikia.com/marveldatabase/images/c/cb/Iron_Patriot_002.jpg) if you look closely at the in game costume, you'll see that the chest-piece has a star and not the diamond he has by default, and the armour is shaped differently in places, for this reason, it appears to be a different model.

Captain America is obviously a different model too since he's not wearing a mask and has an old shield design.

About the least obvious one is Thor, but I'm guessing its more than a mere skin.

You're right...and I don't like the fact that they look too similar to their standart costumes.
They did a great job with Dante, Cap, Chris and Ryu, but the rest seem pretty similar to their standart outfits.

I like the first alternate outfits for the characters. I really do. What I don´t like is the fact, that all the stuff could have been on the disk but it is not.

The reason is very clear - money making. But this kills my favorite genre!

I really love Beat em´Ups for life! I played all types of fighters on different plattforms as many of you guys did as well and all I can say is that most of them were filled with a lot of content.

The situation in this generation changed clearly!

Today you buy a game which is plannend with

36 Characters
+ 36 Alternate Costumes (DLC)
+ Extra Modes (DLC)
+ NEW Characters (DLC)
+ NEW Stages (DLC)
+ NEW Music (DLC)

You´ll maybe pay 50 € - 70 € for the game + 30 - 40 € Extra Money for DLC!

And if the game is really running good, we´ll bring an updated Retail Version of that game (like Super Street Fighter IV) and make another 40 €!

In the past - we´d ALL that stuff in the game because there was not DLC! And that was nice!

Don´t understand me wrong - DLC is a very good idea, but I had the vision that DLC would be used, if people asked for something like

CAPCOM" Hey Gamers, we can see, you like our game - now it´s up to you - what kind of new things or changes would you like to see or to have in the game? Tell us about it and we´ll work on it!"

But the current situation that we have is that they offer DLC that we all like and that we all want (me include) but they want extra money for it! Why not already on disk?

And thats the reason why they are killing my favorite genre... :(

I´m sorry for that long post.

Greetings Tobi

While I do agree with you, I still think that in the long run we're getting an ok deal. I mean, I don't really think they'd have bothered working on alternate costumes at all if it weren't for DLC - we might have gotten one or two extra characters (Megaman/Frank West) on the disc, but I don't think they would have put the work into the alts for the sake of it -when the game would no doubt sell without them.

So basically I do think we get given less than we should initially, but I think in the end we end up with something more than we would have gotten without DLC.

What would be interesting is if Iron Patriot had redone dialogue with it actually being Osborn...wishful thinking.

LeonBelmontX
16-02-11, 11:24
Yeah I don't think so, I mean - I was sort of hoping they'd replace Dante's name with "Sparda" for his alt but they didn't put that detail in - so I doubt they'll have some different dialogue :P

Would be nice though.

CaptainCortez
16-02-11, 11:25
What would also be pretty cool is if these new alternate costumes had different move sets dependent on the character they're portraying.

Only thing is I doubt that will happen because it would basically mean they're a different playable character.

Strange though. Iron Patriot's special looks different to Ironman's.

As for DLC, yea I agree and it is a bit of a shame, but I guess this way you can buy what you want and leave what you want, rather than having a load of characters on the disk who you won't touch.

What would be cool is if you could have trial DLC. What I mean by this is that we could play Jill for 5 games and if we like her, buy her, if not, then at least we were able to try her.

Really? I mean, the characters all have multiple specials so could it just be a different one you haven't noticed before?

Trail DLC is a good thing. Ubisoft did use it in "Naruto: Rise of a Ninja".

You could play 5 times with the DLC characters + use the new stages. That would be a perfect idea for MvsC3! ;)

Trial DLC is a fantastic idea. It enables people to have a limited trial on interesting DLC that can make or break a purchase. Much better than going in blind and finding that your DLC is awful. Sure, you can research in to it but experiencing it for yourself is the ultimate factor. This needs to be standard practice this generation.

LeonBelmontX
16-02-11, 13:20
Its good for the consumer, but not necessarily the sellers - after all I'm sure some rely on the blindness of DLC purchases to sell stuff and screw people till it's too late to do anything about it.

So I guess... yeah. Any company that's worth it's salt should do trial DLC, because they shouldn't try to flog us rubbish in the first place :P

The funny thing about it is they put all the DLC on disk. Some "enterprising" individuals unlocked Jill and Shuma.

Jepp, I´ve seen this on youtube. They manipulated Viewtiful Joe with the Jill game codes I think, and made it possible to play as her.

They said, they couldn´t wait! Jill is already on the disk!
