Time for Bionic Commando and pizza!

We'll be having a first-to-play event at our London offices on 7th - 8th April to give you guys the opportunity to be the first ones to have a good taste of Bionic Commando.

We'll be having 2 sessions each day with 8 players each; morning session 11am to 1.30pm, afternoon session from 2pm to 4.30pm. We'll give you some time to get used to the controls and then throw you into multiplayer madness! And there will be pizza, lots of it. You won't be required to sign any NDAs and photography will be allowed (with some guidelines).

To help you out with your travel, we'll contribute up to £10 towards your expenses as long as you bring a receipt/ticket.

As Bionic Commando is rated 18+, the invitation is open to players aged 18+.

Interested? Send me an email on survey@capcomeuro.com indicating your full name, forum nick, age and date/session you'll be interested to attend.

Hi guys,

I don't have access to that mail box today and will be on holidays from Mon to Wed so don't panic if I don't get back to you straight away. You'll hear from me before the end of next week ;)

So, just to clarify, it's not like RE5, where people had the full game. Instead it'll just be a bit of "training" and then just multiplayer?

Any chance of seeing the Chompster himself in real life since we will be going to the offices? :p

As tempting it is to haunt Capcom-Europe HQ again, i'm afraid this game isn't my immediate priority, last time it cost me £60 to get down there, but since it was Resident Evil 5 it was well worth it, me thinks ill save that money to buy Bionic Commando when it's out. :)

I had an awesome time down there, and I know you guys will love it too, have fun y'all. :)

It is the full game; it's a community event after all and it'd be a bit sad if people sat there playing by themselves for hours. As I said, there will be some time devoted to single player but like with RE5 we'd like people to have a more social experience.

Franzkill, it's possible but not guaranteed. Will you be attending, I haven't received any emails from you

So, more takers for gaming and pizza?

CaptainCortez
02-04-09, 17:57
Hey Tenebra, just a quicky: Would it be cool to come up with a friend? If not, no worries, was gonna come on my own originally anyway, but a friend in London know's where Capcom HQ is, and was gonna show me, if he could come.

I told him it was already planned anyway, so it's doubtful, but felt I should ask, just in case.

Cheers. :)

You gonna be having competitions too?

Ah cool, sounds awesome Tenebra!

Thanks a lot. Shall I pm you, or reply back with it to the email which you sent to me, asking if the time was fine for me?

I think you emailed me. It may sound silly, but I haven't worked out if you're male or female yet. Lmao. It was definitely a lady who messaged me, haha.

You may kick my butt on BC for saying that. :p

Come on guys and dont be shy in coming down to play the game! I want to swing around with lots of people so get asking the lady of the forum already. ;)

I bet the multiplayer will be crazy like on Lost Planet with all the swinging going on! I swear that half of the time not sure what I do in that game's multiplayer but it's still a lot of fun.

Also I seem to lack a competitive side but I will do my best in the face of those pesky destructoid kids.I'll take my spare bionic arm just in case... :D

I hope you guys get a chance to do one for Ace Attorney Investigations too someday!

I also know what you do in your own spare time. STOP IT!!! XD

It was definetly a pleasure and I have been converted to the Bionic Bommando religion.:p

No seriously I really enjoyed going through story mode as it was beyond any expectactions that I had! As for multiplayer it was all so fast and very enjoyable. It felt like Lost Planet but at a more speedy pace, so something I could get addicted to playing online. I am glad to have been invited as it got me very interested on the game.

As Jack said thanks for organising it and hope we weren't too much trouble. Always a bonus to meet new people too and even more when they are into gaming. :)

It was absolutely awesome.
Enjoyed every single bit of it. Well worth the roundtrip all the way from Norway :D

Awesome to hear that people enjoyed it. Guess I might be seeing some of you online in the future when the retail version is out then.

Photos? ^_^
I think I spotted Tenebra taking some pictures during the first session (maybe there'll be more images taken today?)

Wow, that really is incredible that you came all the way heere to play the game! We should definetly have a few matches when it comes out mate if you got a xbox 360 too. I think that you were at the afternoon session too and we spoke for a bit? Are you still around London or flown back to Nordic lands?

Sorry James but didn't really take photos this time as I completely lost track of time. There weren't any banners or anything if you think it had a theme. It was the same room as before but with 8 screens and Bionic Music(loving the re armed soundtrack tracks think that were on) on the background. Everyone was really into the game and even more when it came to multiplayer.

Returned to Norway later the same evening (Was one long day, but well worth it!). Would've loved to stick around longer, but the entire thing kinda snuck up on me so sudden that I couldn't really schedule an extended stay.

And, yes, I was present the entire day
I unfortunately didn't pick up many (*cough*any*cough*) names while I was there, and this being my second post here on the Capcom Europe forums makes me a bit of an outsider, so I don't know the faces of everybody around these parts (yet). But I'll try to poke my head out of the Bionic Commando site's forums and look in the direction of this place every once in a while too.

I'm definitively up for more multiplayer once the game hits in May. I've got a 360 rigged up, but I'm somewhat hoping to be able to at least get myself a new desktop computer (or a powerful laptop) rigged up in due time for the PC version too (Might evt. get a PS3 in the future too, but gotta do some economical prioritizing + I've got so many consoles rigged up to my big screen right now -_-; )

Well I ended up arriving late, again, although this time I have a pretty good reason so thats alright I suppose.

Anyway I had half an hour less to practise than some others but im pretty happy with how the score turned out

Last place - second last - fith - fourth - second - third

Captain Cortez was really good at the game, so good tenebra gave him some socks!

then spent the rest of the day with the Captain and his crew (sorry but that joke had to be made)

may as well write up a full report a lil later

Lmao, Sinister you comedian!!!

Haha, yea, it was an awesome day out. I may have been a little cocky at times, but it was all light heartedness. :p

Thanks very much Tenebra, and thanks to all of the other Capcom staff who was there. :D

I'm really looking forward to buying this now! It was so fun!

Yea, The guy who used to work at EA left early, but was a nice enough person. It was good, as everyone was friendly, so I invited Sin to come out with Elias and I, then we went around London, up to Hyde Park, on the buses etc, and then saw Watchmen at the cinema for a fiver!

That was also a pretty cool film. Dark humoured and hilarious, but fun. XD

Ten snapped a photo or two of us, as well. Soooooo, my rained on hair is in the picture, we're all probably laughing and looking like fools. :p

Thanks once again everyone! :)

@Skeksis: Wrote a tiny wall of text about various things over on the BC site forums. The short version would be: I was positively surprised, multiplayer was a lot more fun than I actually thought it'd be, and I was amazed by how quickly everyone got a grip on the basics of the swing mechanics after hearing so many people in the past comment on how it was supposedly so hard/complicated to get a grip on. Think it was a really clever idea to basically first just set us all up with the quick tutorial, to then throw us all into the frying pan of multiplayer mayhem.

@CaptainCortez: There was another former EA person around? (Were you there on the 8th, or ...?) Just curious, 'cause I sometimes work with EA myself in what I would call a complicated relationship!

Hope we'll get to see some of the pictures soon :D
I'm still kinda trying to figure out who it was that I played with while I was there, as I was brand spankin' new around these parts in every possible way. Hopefully I'll get to see a bit more of London in the future.

Somerset or Wiltshire? :p

The reason for my absence at this event was due to how much it cost to get to the RE5 event in February. If I'd've had more money, I would have jumped on this event ASAP.

What did people think of the game overall? How does it feel to play?

Hey guys,

I went to this event yesterday with a few guys from over at the Xbox forums. What can i say - the game was so much better than i could have ever expected. It's easy enough to pick up and play, however you can tell that there is a lot of scope to improve and become really good.

The kinda idea of it is similar to Spiderman - you need to use the grapple hook to move around, although you can run and sprint along the ground you have to get good at swinging in order to chase people, evade them, or even just gun them down whilst you're both in mid air.

Here's a bit of the kinda gameplay we experienced - although this doesn't show the use of the grapple hook as a weapon! Click Here (http://www.gametrailers.com/player/43856.html?type=flv)

The grapple hook can also be used to attach to enemies to either hang from them and catch a free ride up a building, or to attach to them and pull yourself in to zip kick them in the head! The hook attaches to almost everything and just jumping and swinging around the maps alone is great fun - not to mention all the different weapons!

The weapons are dotted around the map in certain points as it health. Weapons include sniper rifles, shotguns, rocket launchers, machine guns and more. Falling from heights doesn't kill the commando, so another cool 'weapon' is the ability to pull off 'death from above', basically as you fall you repeatedly tap a button which makes you perform a shockwave when you land - killing (or severely injuring those nearby). So satisfying to dive from the top of the building, freefall all the way down and then take out an enemy! It also removes any element of fear when flying around the map and encourages you to attempt crazy stunts and jumps.

All in all i really enjoyed the game and the day as a whole. Big thanks to all the Capcom staff who were awesome - they really took care of us!

Hi guys, I went yesterday for the afternoon session, through the competition on xbox.com UK forums.

Thought I'd share my thoughts with you guys, so I'll copy what I wrote on our forums:

AceyBongos, Xbox EMEA Community Manager, ran a competition recently to go to Capcom HQ in London and play Bionic Commando.

You can see the thread here (http://forums.xbox.com/26606828/ShowPost.aspx), along with other's reviews and reactions to the game.

The build we played was apparently 99% complete, so basically the game that will be on your discs when it's released in May. We only had about 2 hours, and spent most of it playing multiplayer, barely touched single player apart from doing the tutorial level.

The game itself was pretty damn good I thought.

We started off playing the tutorial and getting to grips with the grapple arm hook type thingy, basically aiming for bars, and learning when to release the trigger, etc. I had major problems at first haha, I must have "died" about 7 times on the first swing. I found a couple of hidden items though, so I'm guessing there's going to be an achievement for finding them all.

We jumped straight into an 8 player deathmatch, with 7 of us, and 1 of the Capcom guys - It was a bit chaotic at first, everyone running around and grappling each other like madmen! I seemed to kill Kitty a lot in the first game, wasn't picking on her but she was easy to spot in the pink armour lol.

The game reminded me of Crackdown a bit, being able to jump off buildings, and scale them with ease. Think Crackdown meets Spiderman, with a Just Cause grapple hook thrown in for good measure

There are 3 multiplayer modes, Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and CTF.

The whole swinging across the map seems perfect for a race mode, the Capcom guys said that they had toyed with the idea, but not gone with it. But they hinted that they could add something like that as DLC down the line if they chose to.

The physics were pretty good, and the animations were fun - I had loads of fun diving off buildings and half way down turning around, grappling somebody, then reeling in and smacking them upside the head
I can see that the physics of the grapple hook will be a lot of fun, and will create some random situations. As I said, you can grapple onto pretty much anything (bar the shiny blue surfaces), including other players.

Best moment of the game for me was chasing one of the Capcom guys (can't remember who, they were hotswapping the 8th controller) up a building, grappling onto him, he jumped off, so we both freefalled while tethered to each other.. then we fell onto a sign which was sticking off a building, swung down face to face and started blasting each other senseless!

If you are running on the ground it's quite slow, so you need to get to grips with the grapple system to be able to swing to destinations fast, or escape a pursuer.

I think he said there are about 15 maps online, and we played about 5 of them I think.

Here's a video of the gameplay we were experiencing today, we played this map a few times.

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/43856.html?type=flv

You can really see the grappling hook in action here, and yes, it is as much fun as it looks!
What those videos DON'T show is using the grapple on opponents bodies themselves..
You can aim at a person, and either just hang off them as they climb, catching a free ride, or you can instantly reel yourself towards them and deliver a melee blow.

One thing I wanted to try, but didn't think of until it was all over, was to see if we could all grab onto each other and just become a crazy ball of bodies and grapple wires flying around the place

I saw a big billboard on the side of one of the buildings with a huge Tricell logo on it (from Resident Evil).

Weapons - You start multiplayer with a pistol w/ unlimited ammo, and have to get better weapons from spawn points around the map, such as RPGS, Shotguns, and sniper rifles. (The sniper rifle is the key to the game IMO, it's deadly, and you don't need to be that accurate. Plus it's very satisfying to snipe somebody swinging through the air )

The voice acting of the main character is done by Mike Patton, of the band Faith No More. (He also voiced the creatures in "The Darkness" game)

I asked how linear the game was in single player, they said there were some large open spaces to play around in, so that should be fun.

I probably will pick up this game, it was quite fun swinging around the place, and can imagine that when you get good at it, it will really take on another level.

Freebies - We all got 2 t-shirts, a Japanese edition poster signed by Ben Judd (producer of the game - "Keep on swingin" mine says), and free Resi 5 DLC codes for the new VS mode too. Pvt Marcus won a pair of socks with "GRIN" on them.

I'd like to thank AceyBongos and Capcom for a great day out, it was tons o' fun and got to meet a bunch of peeps from the UK xbox forums too! Cheers! :thumb::thumb::thumb:

Any questions on the game, I'll do my best to answer! :)
