View Full Version : Why do they keep changing the moves?

I have been noticing an increasing leaning towards making radical (and mostly) bad changes to the characters basic moves, why is it this?

Some of the best changes (during the EX era) included things like Ryu's one step spinning front kick which was strangely missing in 3rd strike also they took away his axe kick. Why? it was his main anti air attack move, and why was ken's chop kick made harder to do and the hurricane kicks limited in height???

As some one who has played intensely the range from the original SF in the arcades there seems to be a leaning away from the original "purity of combat" and going more into the "wildy pressing buttons and ridiculous combos" which lesser games specialise in.

Things like Excel combos and the like aren't a bad thing but to go about taking away basic moves from players so all those classic SSF2T combos no longer work seems pointless???

I have not been able to find any web site that lists the basic moves for SFIV, has normality been restored or are we will still suffering with things like Ryu's amazingly bad fierce leg sweep from 3rd strike?

Generally, moves get changed for balance purposes. If one character becomes overpowered because of certain moves, said moves get altered. Which makes me wonder why Sagat is still more or less untouched from day one!

The main issues is it unbalances the character and knackers all the classic combos you learnt from the first 4 games!

So what you end up with is a slightly disabled version of current character, I think the balance in SSF2T was just right, maybe they should ask us what moves want to keep instead of butchering our fave characters!

Is it just me or are the "new" characters just cartoon variations of existing ones? I remember in SF 3rd a whole new batch of ridiculous characters who just had a mix of other characters special moves now thats pretty lame, plus one guy seemed to have transparent legs as he could not be sweeped!!

Maybe if the did what they did in SSF2T and allowed you to use the same character but from a previous version, now that would be cool. I would play as Akuma from SFA2 and Ken from SSF2T and Ryu from EX plus Alpha, maybe Capcom should do a proper anniversary edition with that option?
(I'll start another thread for that reply!)
