View Full Version : Street Fighter IV AI
I'm suprised this hasn't been mentioned before (aside from 1 post, but this will be slightly different) what do you all think?
Personally I think the AI in this release of SF is appauling, it's so random, one fight you can kick ass way through Arcade, the next minute it's impossible to beat someone, it seems to vary so much, usually one extreme or the other (i.e. simple or extremely hard)
Seth for example, is quite possibly the most annoying character I have ever come across in the SF series no matter what I do, who I play with I cannot beat him. I'm not awesome at SF but I'm not bad and I've been playing them since Mega Drive!?
Anyone have any tactics for him? I'm sure I must be on about 30 rounds with him and I've lost everytime. :help:

Forgot what other thread had a similar thing but I'll post here since I'm typing this...
Believe it or not, the AI is actually fairly easy even on Hardest. It just means abusing the Focus Attack for nearly every character. Ok, so it might be difficult for some but once you get used to it, it's very easy. I'll give you Rufus as my first example. Straight away, Focus charge. He'll more often than not do his jump-flip-kick-thing into you. Release soon as you get hit/he gets close. Free hit. Dash forward and do whatever damaging attack you can, preferably one that has good recovery and knocks down. Once he's down, do wait a split second and do another Focus charge and repeat the above. If he has Ultra do NOT jump into him. He will release it. If you get scared when he has Ultra just walk up to him and jump AWAY. He'll do his Ultra and miss. Go hit him! This strategy works on Rufus no matter who you use. In fact, this will work for nearly everyone with some variation. If you are fighting Cammy,Fei Long, Rose, Gen just keep blocking when they have Ultra as they will eventually release it (jump over if you like).
As far as Focus Attacks go, do NOT do them against Rose. They do work sometimes but she'll usually do an armour break move. Fei Long is sort of similar but his speed is the issue. My advice for him is counter attack after you block a Rekka or Flying Kick. Free hit most of the times. Bison is also a bit weird when it comes to focus. He doesn't eat them as well. Balrog can but has weird punches so just mix it up. Basically it works on most characters, excluding those mentioned and Seth.
For Seth (all difficulties), you can jump kick him to victory but you have to judge distance and be a little patient. On easier modes you can Focus Attack him. On later modes he will 17-hit kick you to Hell. For this example I will use Ryu. Start of fight he will either jump to you or streth his arms. If he jumps to you, don't worry. Just get away again. Keep your distance enough so it's like how you start the match. At this distance he enjoys streatching his arms. Jump and kick him in the face and low HK (or whatever else is safe and will hit). If you're too far he will Sonic Boom. Jump or block and edge closer. If you jump in whilst too close he will Shoryuken you. Once he is knocked down get that nice distance away from him again and repeat. If he has Ultra, try not to jump in too much without planning or else he may catch you. If he does the stretchy arms, jump in for ONE kick. Do NOT sweep. Just block. He will more often than not go for the Ultra. Hit him just after he finishes.
Before I forget, Chun-Li on Hardest doesn't like Focus Attacks much. She likes to do her own, heh.
no, the ai in this game is utterly broken. It ignores not only the difficulty level chosen by the player but also how the game is supposed to work.
I played arcade mode on medium level. The first two fights are easy, the next is absolutely 180 degress the opposite. It takes me about 7 attempts during which the ai focuses every poke i use, all the time. Then i fight another two people, including Sagat who is the most powerful character int he game, and win easily. I then face Honda who is suddenly supercharged on the difficulty reacting just as the third fight. This takes me about 20 minutes to beat during which time he cheats: I block a poke which he then follows with the 100h slap. Now I'm still blocking from the inital poke (which was blocked remember) and yet the slap gets through!?! How? I'm still blocking!
This game, offline, is a complete mess. I agree with comments i've read elsewhere - the game was rushed. The online needs major patching as well. Hopefully this is due on the 31st which is the supposed date for this championship edition, though I've heard no conformation from capcom about this. If they don't release that, then this game is gone. I can't imagine there are going to be many players prepared to tolerate the poor design choices in this game, it's heartbreaking for players like me who have fond memories of streetfighter in the old days.
