I thought I'd solved all of my WiFi problems after I got my Apple router.

But it has become apparant that someone around me (I live in a flat) is using a similar channel to me - but only at night. In the day it's fine, and then at some point late evening, I see spikes of interference on my network tuner.

Is there any way to see what channel people are using on their router? So I can knock on their door and tell them to change?

you have 13 channals to choose from can't you just pick and choose and see which is the best for you.

On my lap top i have built in program that tells me every one channals.

It's called realtek radar or something like that

Is this channel doo-da interference why my wifi keeps bombing out?

@Spike, yeah I did do that a while ago, and 7 is the best (mainly because 13 or 1 are usually the defaults). However something is interfering with 7 at various times. I'll check out Realtek Radar and see if that will do the job, thanks.

@D, it could be, but you live in a house, so it's less likely (I have up and down to consider as well as left and right).

Basically, each channel occupies a certain range of frequencies, and broadcasts accross them. However, on g and n (and either a or b)? they all overlap so much, that if you don't plan it properly, they'll interfere.

Channel 1 ends where 7 starts, which ends where 13 starts, so in the same area, you could have 3 different channels set up. In my case, I'm definitely in range of at least one 1 and 13 range network, but then I'm assuming someone has set up something recently on the same band, and it makes TV REALLY ANNOYING!!!!!

House? Me? Noooo, i rent a flat.

I'll try fiddling with our do-da then and see if that stops the tinterweb from bombing out whilst I'm trying to watch Terrahawks on youtube.

Oh you do? I must have gotten confused - I remember a conversation we had and I pictured you in a semi-detatched :S

So yeah, that could be a factor. But if the connection drops completely, that's more likely the router. What kind do you have?

My "dropping" problem was solved by the Apple router, but I got it cheap at £75. So not the cheapest thing in the world
