View Full Version : Favourite Disturbing and scary moments
Im surprised this hasn't been brought up very much, so, what has made you jump? scripted or not?
Here's a couple of my favorites:
The Keeper's degeneration and appearance (Original Resident Evil + Directors cut)- That moment where you enter the locked room and read the diary of the desk, the moment the you try to read it, the keeper comes bursting out of the closet, after killing him, reading the journal reveals the gruesome degeneration in to a zombie, ending with the lines "Itchy. Tasty.".
Hazmat zombie (Resident Evil -Dead Aim)- Passively wandering through the facility at the end of the game and suddenly, one of the suits jumps off of the hook and runs at you, it gave me the jitters, thats for damn sure.
Hands through boards (Resident Evil 2)- Scared me once, didn't play the game for a while, totally forgot about it, played it again, scared the living hell out of me.
Mr.X makes a door (Resident Evil 2 Scenario B)- Something totally unexpected, after solving a puzzle, much rather than leaping through the door and scaring you, he breaks down a WALL two inches from you.
And that's just a few, im curious to hear what the rest of you got scared by. :p
Ha I can remember one time I think it was Resi3, I was sat there like ha I aint scared of no zombies and then one of the B*****ds burst out of a cop car and I was AH!! WHAT THE HELL! It think I must have jumped about 20meters in the air, damn that caught me off guard.
the sacerest moment in resident evil histroey is from resi 2 where you about to leave a room and a licker comes out of the window that scared the holey **** out off me and it mad me threw the controll pad
The original dog through a window scene; 1996 era RE veterans would agree I'm sure.
Ya Mr.X Jumping through did scare me still does xDOh and the zombies in the cars in #3 and the crow that burst out of the bus tooI'll update if a remeber any..... or run into any ;p

There have been many, but a couple stick out in my mind.
The original dog-winow scene made me jump of course. The one many Resi fans remember the most. :o
In RE remake, the part where just before the dog is supposed to jump out. It doesn't. I walk down the hallway thinking everything is ok, then *CRACK*. The window cracks and it scares the crap out of me. No dog,, but Capcom fooled me with that trick.
In RE 2, the licker jumping through the window.
Mr. X crashing through walls throughout RE 2.
In RE 3, Nemisis chasing me and making random entrances.
Nemesis jumping through the window as you come down the stairs of the police station after getting the magnum (or grenade launcher) and listening to Brad on the radio.
The scariest and most disturbing moment for me was when I seen Jill with blonde hair and a ponytail and suddenly got a flashback that made me see Fiona Belli -_-
Actually, i found the RE-series not so scary, but interesting.
In RE the scariest moment is a scene where dogs jumping through a window.
In RE3 - Nemesis appearance. Nothing more :(

I was playing RE2 on my PSP, one night while playing in my bedroom with no lights on and ear phones I was running through a room and all of a sudden, birds just crashed out of the windows!:D
Equip my shotgun ASAP and blast them away!:p
most disturbing part of RE5 is finding out there was a chapter select screen in it like in the DMC series. it just takes away the challenge of a survival game.

You need to have it... If you go into co-op and click continue it continues from where you left off in co-op and since this game lacks a manual save system you can't exactly Load Game either..
and to Dante2014, the Keeper Diary in RE1 was probably my most fond memory of that game xD
He ate Scott! xD
Lisa Trevor in the caves. "I know, I'll go this way, because I saw her coming over that way....ahhhhhhhh, how'd she get over here!!!" :D
my scariest moment would be when the dog jumps through the window when playing the game for the first time...and the zombie coming out of the closet when reading the keeper's diary.
The first appearence of the reaper in re5 sort of gave me a scare when i couldnt kill it with my shotgun and i ran out of shells. But i liked the way the creature kills chris by stabbing him wit its spear-like legs. This was my first playthrough.
Obviously, as an old schooler, I have to say the Dog Scene is the most Iconic scare moment in Resi and led to just about every jump-out scare in gaming today; however it was RE2 that actually managed to 'scare' me.
When you go down past the burning Helecopter to the back shed of the Police Station to get a shotgun/crossbow and other items and try to open the door to go outside- and two zombies enter the room instead of you going out DURING THE DOOR OPENING SCENE; it blew my mind, and I could swear my heart stopped for a few seconds- it's the first and only time I've ever been 'Scared' in a videogame, and it hasn't happened to that degree since.
Close second though was the moment after you drop Mr.X in the gas lamp puzzle room in the RPD station questioning area, you leave thinking all is well, you've dropped him for another few minutes, it's all good, just need to get to.....'WOAH S[CENSORED!]!!' as Mr.X crashed through the wall to get you!! There was no discolouration of the wall before it happened, no indication, then BOOM!!
RE2 was easily the most thoughtful of the Resi games by a mile, and earns it's reputation among most fans as one of the one or two best pure Resi games ever made. What's funny about that too was that it was a Survival Horror first, but it gave you some decent hardware to play with quite early on and forced you to decide when to use them (Magnum Handgun for the epic freaking win. :))
It may well just be the best example as to how to make an action oriented RE game with a real Survival Horror feel.
I only had a few scares in Code Veronica X, from Resident Evil 4 I remember the scene where the ganados follow you to a house with torches, it didn't scared me but I was afraid since they were so many, Resident Evil 5 represented no scares for me.
Previous games I never played.
