I still have to decide whether allow signatures or not, reason being that in my experience there is a tendency to abuse the feature.

PMs - could you please give us more details about your problem, Redwings? Did you tick the save a copy in the sent box and it wasn't there?

Ran into that check box when skimming through the new features, pretty peculiar to not have that checked by default. Guessing it's to manage bandwidth?

Could you give any examples regarding signature abuse though, Tena?

most sites just have a size limit (physical and digital) to prevent abuse, if you look at the couple of ppl (rewings, tzm, me) who have links in their sig you can see they are pretty sensible

How about we just report the post when we see an abusive signature so that the moderators or Tenebra can see for themselves?

Ive rarely seen signature options being abused. You can easily implement a size (56Kb?) limit, along with the dimensional limits. If it comes to inappropriate content, thats where mods come in. Problem solved.

We used to have an old rule on sig images being allowed with a size limit. What if members were warned for abusing that rule and then mods could have the ability to change the sigs if necessary?

I think that images in signatures is not necessary. Sometimes a huge 'n' bright signature irritates a lot.
As for PMs, i think a new window/ajax form should pop ups when new PM arrives.

You can enable that in your profile :)

There are many communities which I go to which implement restrictions on the dimensions and file sizes of signatures, as well as stating what content is inappropriate.

You can only go so far with signature rules, but it's up to the Administration whether or not the risk should be taken.

From a personal point of view, signature abuse is hardly common place. It's also something that can be dealt with if the need arises. We do have a mature bunch of members here as well.

Damnnit! Is it to do with new rules?

A forum without sigs is more a shoutbox than a forum.

SashaAM, the ability (or lack thereof) to use signatures hardly encapsulates all that a forum/community is or should be.
