Prepare to be blown away by the latest Lost Planet 2 demo coming your way next week on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network. Get ready to hop in a vital suit, grab some weapons and battle with 16 players in real time. Featuring the “Turbulent Jungle” map from the online versus mode, the new Lost Planet 2 demo will include full chat support and stat tracking. While the demo will be available publicly on April 21 for Xbox 360 and April 22 for PlayStation 3, Capcom’s most avid fans will get a sneak preview of this demo beginning March 31 via community-distributed voucher codes for early access. Keep an eye out for the availability of early access codes coming your way right here on Capcom-Unity!

Players who download and play the demo will be rewarded when they purchase the full retail version of Lost Planet 2 with immediate access to the Machine Gun SP which fires three round bursts.

Capcom is also pleased to announce that the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Lost Planet 2 will now be hitting stores on Tuesday May 11th, one week earlier than previously announced. A PC version is scheduled for release in Fall 2010.

Just played the demo for about 5 hours (only UK guy I saw the whole time too)

Doubt I'll play much of the versus when this game launches, the canned animations just kill it for me and the game is stupidly unbalanced with the weapon sets they give you in the demo.

The default machine gun you start with is freaking useless, it takes like 5 seconds of constant fire to kill someone with that thing and if they start rolling there is nothing you can do. Grenades are just annoying, if they don't kill you flat out they send you flying and it takes ages to get back up leaving you exposed the whole time.

I only played the team game post grab (don't care to much for the free for all) there are two weapon layouts one with 5 posts, 2 mechs, two turrets and the other has 3 posts, 3 turrets, 2 mechs and one kick ass awesome battle armor suit that was fun and cool.

I can't get over the balancing though, the turrets are stupidly overpowered and are way to hard to take out. I didn't count but it felt like I had to throw at least 10 frags at one to destroy it, there is a rocket launcher up a ladder in the middle of the map and even with that it takes like 6-7 rockets (you get 9 I believe) VS's don't help much either since the only VS's available in the demo are one handed and there is only a mini gun or a pile driver, both which are useless on the turrets.

The animations are still super janky too, the anchor- grab jump still looks stupid and is annoying, rolling still gives you that dumb invulnerability, rolling seems to be a bit faster then sprinting too which is stupid, the stun effect on getting hit by bullets just looks spastic and forces you roll about because it's only way to escape it, climbing ladders takes forever(doesn't help that every place there is a ladder is super tall either) and if you get shot climbing you get locked in a animation unable to move, which is lame.

It's a very limited demo, I can tell there is so much more to do and unlock in the full game. You can go to customize screen where you can select a load out between 2 machine guns that have different flash effects, rockets or hand cannon, shotgun or magnum and shield or injector. Hopefully in the full there is more to unlock. your character model is chosen for you and some of them are just flat out awesome, the female characters especially. I hope in the full game there is a lot of customization to models, the RB tab doesn't seem to missing some options so hopefully character customizer is one of those.

The map is okay, pretty simple and small, look out for the hut next the centre building, climb up there to get the rocket launcher. The building in the centre is 2 tiered with a river under it for some sneaking and the top level has platforms with grenades and shotguns on them, both teams start parallel on the left of the map, one starts on in a small stronghold with ramps leading down to the second post, the other team starts up high on a broken train track, they have to jump down for their first post then can follow through to post 2. smart players will go straight for the hardest reach post first which is on top of a larger structure on the far right of the map. you have to climb up to get to it so it's hard to take mid match, also once you get the post there is a VS you can jump down to get, which helps to flank Team B's spawn point.

I like the demo but the versus is not for me, the awkwardness of the animations, the crappy starting weapons and the unbalanced layout that all about power weapons and grenades then genuine tactics just stress me out. Nothing in the versus really feels satisfying to me, nailing someone with the shot gun is probably the highlight for me it does have a nice kick to it but the peashooter default weapon lacks the impact it really should have and the grenades are janky and have a huge blast radius but everyone moves so fast that it's hard to ever hit anyone that's not standing still or taking a post. I haven't experimented with over greades yet so maybe they are more fun but frags are the default and you get so many of them that I wish where bit more precise and easier to use maybe even letting me cook them to catch people who are moving.

I'm gonna keep playing despite my negative first impressions, the multiplayer feels a little like MGO to me, you have to get used to jankyness to enjoy it a few matches before turning my 360 off it did start to click with me bit. With the glaring flaws staring me in the face though I think I won't invest much time in the competitive side of Lost Planet 2 when it comes out, I'll stick with co-op thanks.

Also the game feels really un balanced. if the other team has 3 or more data posts they can drive the opposite team in a corner and keep them there really easy with their unlimited supply of VS's and weaponry. A fixed spawn like in the old version is mush better than spawn at a data post.

hm, IMO the demo works good. I love all the new features.


some balancing ideas:


1.) melee attacks should do a lot more damage. Currently melee is as useless as it was in LP1. It's only good for stunning so you can kill the stunned opponet easily with your gun but the shooting itself in these situations is just time consuming. I prefer a 2 or 3 hit death by melee attacks. Sure, stunning your opponent with the melee attack is a mighty option and most of the time the guaranteed death to every player (I'm using it as much as I can xD) but well....the actual shooting is just annoying.

2.) no unlimited ammo for turret weapons which are not energy-driven (the camping in those turrets for the death bringing canon is freakin' ridiculous >_> )



The demo map is well designed and looks pretty nice. There is a lot of cover. No spawn killing cauz the hill splits both bases etc. Shooting to the other side of a base right from the start spawn was a problem many (not to say ALL, lol) LP1 maps had.

I think it will be the next (or second?) "Pirate Fortress". But to be honest...I like this map more than "Pirate Fortress" (sorry guys, this map is unblanced like hell :p).





The machine gun is FINALLY useful. It's way more accurate and you can kill someone now. I still remember the time in LP1 where two players strafing a circle for 2 minutes or so and thex cant kill each other. You're not helpless against snipers anymore. With machine gun "I" you can more or less countersnipe camping snipers ^^



The second fast firing machine gun is only good for CQC. If you choose the weapon then make sure you are not trying to shoot someone across the map. It just wont work. I've seen many people who dont know how to use machine gun II. Otherwise the gun makes a good job in killing enemies over short distances. I recommend using the machine if someone is more the "rusher" who runs for data posts. And if you love to surprise your enemy, than machine gun II is your best friend, too.

high distance: Machine Gun I beats Machine Gun II
close distance: Machine Gun II beats Machine Gun I

(if one player is unskilled or just cant aim, lol, it can become a vise versa situation)

It's a simple and balanced system capcom implemented with both automatic machine guns.

But there will be 2 more guns in the final version. A single shot version with a bayonet which allows you to use a powerful and sweet animated double-melee attack (but lets you open for a short time) and the burst rifle. I cant wait to see how these guns are working in the actual game =D


The shotgun has a reduced range now but is also became more accurate. Wow, first time in a Lost Planet game where I've seen players running for the shoty. Finally a deadly close combat weapon and not some super spraying gun covering the whole map with bullets but not your target. Thx, capcom :)

The grenades are still powerful BUT you now have a very accurate machine gun ;) The new machine gun gives you the best option against such nade spamers. I love it.



I couldn't find a good tactic for the shield :/ It ends always in nade spamming as soon as you activate it xD

Oke here is my sum up:

1 The grenades have a to big hit box even when your not even close on shooting them they still explode

2 Give me back the old radar. It was covering a wider area and it was round plus the detail makes it to easy sometimes.

3 The raggdoll fly to mush!! WAY TO MUSH.

4 the guns and grenades lie around to long after a person dies. it should be max 10 / 12 sec like in the old one.

5 VS's are so powerful that they should not re-spawn after being destroyed.

6 The trees and Datapost have a to big hit-box to. you can easily hide behind it without being hit by the most nasty attacks

7 characters are to easy to lose track of in the high grass. so make the grass less tall.

8 Why cant we get up some ledges that are easy to reach and clearly able to stand on. If you make a ledge make it so that you can stand on it. If you cant stand on that ledge place a plant there that prevents it from standing there. or put it higher.

9 The ability to chose your spawning area is destroying the game balance. If a team spawns near the other teams spawn they will have the upper hand in getting all the posts and owning the game in the end. (especially with the guns and grenades that lie around way to long) this is great for coop but it sucks in the multi player. So make it random or shut it down.

10 Also the ability to wait and choose the moment that you spawn is destructive for the balance. people simply wait with spawning if they know some one is near. and then spawn when they are about to grab the post.


Round up:

All in all i like the game but it isn't as balanced and deep as the old one. I get the feeling the game has been rushed and dint get enough tough as the last one.
