Its a solid game and really enjoyable, despite its shoddy storyline (while consistent and competent in its own right, the lack of real relevance and closure to the previous plots really irked me) .

Both.

I can see the merits and de-merits of all the games.

RE4 was a move away from the survival horror genre, and a move into the action genre...which is a shame.

But it isnt a bad game.

I dont think you can find one gamer who hate RE4......

The topic has always ben around the story, And is this a RE game...can we still call it survival horror. (that capcom and konami startet, RE and sillent hill)
I love the game but take out leon wesker ada names and give RE 4 a ohter name, then is coulde have ben a new action game. that kick ass!
Becouse the game it self is awsom.

It was good, made up for the pee-poor joke that RE Zero was.

RE 4 was a brilliant game...but an average RE game at best, due to the horrible side-story it presented.

The setting was excellent, except the last part on the island, which , imo, was terrible :(

Graphics were :)

Best game ever. It ll be quite some time until computer and videogame industry can catch up with the standards it has set. Not only did it completely recreate artificial intelligence in the games, it also brought unparalleled sound and graphics engine onto consoles that were previously unable to provide such visual and audio experience to the gamer. The story was one of the most epic ones ever told on any medium, cleverly borrowing sub-plots from the genius of modern cinematographic and literal artists. From Romero to Tom Clancy, without it being too apparent or over the top. The over the shoulder view, aswell as a laser pointer being visible on targets, were first in the industry, aswell as destructible doors and boxes with snakes in them. Dialogue was top notch, perfectly balanced. While giving the player abundance od information to get immersed into the story and feel for the characters, it never became clishe or under-acted. Rumour has it that CAPCOMs sound and VA crew spent a week at Pixars studio.

Its probably of no surprise why videogame development studios are going under. As were experiencing an economical crysis and gamers are less likely to buy games in quantities they did before, they are all eagerly awaiting for RE5, because it promises to deliver everythig RE4 delivers, and more.

I loved 4!
Of course, I love the old style resis too...including Zero. Zero was just an ordinary resi game, with all of the good and bad things included. Anyway, 4 had a great, addictive shooting style, that has the feel of a film that I loved (years ago).

After long deliberation, I recently decided that its my favourite game of all time. Its such a phenomenal experience, I cant even begin to imagine how many hours Ive put into it. The thrill of taking down an El Gigante... THAT scene in the cabin fighting with Luis... The game was so cinematic, I love it. Bring on the fifth installment, I say.

t. I can have an opinion, and from the brief insight I have had into your personality, its probably a lot more valid than yours.

And secondly, it is not the worse game ever. As much as I dont like backing up my opinion with game critics scores, one look at Metacritic will prove that its closer to being the best game ever, rather than the worst game.

Please, god forbid, tell me what you hated about it. And dont say it killed the Resident Evil franchise because it changed too much. Because if you do, Ill have no choice but to ignore you, as rude as that may seem.

Edit Spike: To take deaddevils quote out!

Noone is even trying to point out how much my post was full of feces.

Says a lot about.

And looking at the reviews of RE4 and why many consider it one of the best games ever, it really does say a lot about the videogame industry and the players. All across the field, its more and more focusing on the casual gamer that doesnt have the time, patience nor will to put time and effort into the game, so they are catered the easiest accessible mindless fun. RE4 is no different.

I dont think that the gaming public can be stereotyped like that, considering the genres out there that take weeks to complete a single game (such as RPGs). Ill admit, though, that Resi 4 is a casual game, when compared to the other resis. Doesnt make it any less addictive though...look at Tetris. I say this because I like games that are addictive (as I guess everyone does). Games dont need to be hardcore for them to be good or enjoyable.

No, but they should have some depth, challenge your mental and coordinational skill. Instead RE4 offers something which is rudimentary and basic in our nature, collect stuff we dont need like a rat, and destroy-shoot things up. Why else do you think the Mercs minigame is one of the most anticipated features in RE5 and perhaps the most loved feature in RE4?

But calling it even one of the best games ever, is an insult to games that truly deserve the title.

Hi Deadevil, here comes your friendly admin. Please get your act together as you are piling up an astonishing number of unpleasant/unacceptable posts. And please dont challenge the mods, that in itself calls for a warning.

Member_of_STARS, Im also getting tired of your trolling. A question comes to my mind - if Capcom is rubbish and RE games are rubbish, why are you investing so much of your precious time here?

Maybe noone cares.

As for Resident Evil 4, I dont like it - which doesnt necessarily mean its a bad game. It evidently does a lot to the satidfaction of a large number of people. Nonetheless, it is unfortunate, in my opinion, that the original series has practically/effectively ended.

Yup. Amusingly, not just amongst those that loved RE4 and are series fans.

Out of habbit.

Personally, I find it insulting that *you* are asking *me* what Im doing on a forum Ive been longer on than you, thus remembering and knowing it for something you couldnt possibly have any idea of, especially considering your position here.

I was here at this communities peak times, so I log in periodically because of nostalgia. It also serves as means for people who are long gone, to get in touch with me should they ever visit these forums to see how things are here today.

Anyhow, welcome to 2009 guys - most recent games have sucked due to the increased Hollywooditis.

I edited it because I saw it being inappropriate.

And RE4 suffered from B-Hollywooditis. Most games released during the last 4 years have been unimpressive because most of them never try to push the envelope. And whichever new ideas are tried, are implemented poorly, either technically or conceptually. Weve conquered graphics, sound, interactivity, controls and communication. What we havent conquered, is depth, potential and artistic freedom. Guess which games are playing it safe and which are getting the praise?

I still think that Resident Evil 4 was a decent game. Remake and Zero were both excellent games, but I cannot remember if Code Veronica came before or afterwards. That game got me to worry about the series going stale though simply because it just felt like the same old but in a much less interesting enviornment and boring plot (Maybe thats just me). Beaing that point of view I was happy with 4 because it was a nice easy game to get into, sales soared and RE was definitely in top form. However, it could have just been an entirely new game series from Capcom.

General unpleasentness etc

So i guess your envelope pushing world beating game will be coming out soon then? I personally think there has been lots of innovation implemented very well over the past 4 years both from capcom and other producers.

Chiara might not of been moderating for as long as you have bee a humble member here but i think she ever so slightly out ranks you considering she actually works for Capcom Europe.

I gather you dont like my taste in games then, what would you say are among the greatest games then? And please pm me your answers, dont take this thread more off topic than it has already got.

RECV came after RE3

Both were developed in tandom with each other

Gameplay remained largely unchanged from Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (which was developed in tandem with Code: Veronica); features such as explosive oil drums and a 180-degree turn having been carried over to this game. Items from Resident Evil 2, such as upgradeable handgun parts and side packs for larger item capacity are included, as well as new weapons such as crossbow arrows mixed with gun powder and anti-BOW rounds for the grenade launcher. A unique feature of Code: Veronica is the inclusion of various dual wielding pistols, allowing the player to target two enemies at the same time. Some of the more subtle improvements in Code: Veronica include the addition of continues, allowing the player to retry a scene after a game over, and the ability to pick and use a healing herb when the characters inventory is full.
