View Full Version : God of War 3 and Darksiders demo available today [PSN]
Good news for hack'n slash fans. This week's PSN update includes a demo of God of War 3, as well as an almost 90 minutes long Darksiders demo!
Go, go, go, go!

The demo of God of War III is fantastic, showcasing a fairly small glimpse at the sheer epic scale of what the final game will have to offer. I've had the promo demo now for a few months (thanks to a colleague) and even now I still play it every now and then.
Bring on March!

I'll be sure to download it later this evening.
So sloooooooooooooooooooow at downloading on PSN
Same here. Probably way too many people downloading at the same time.
Darksiders is underrated, wholesomely recommended, it may borrow some elements from other games, but that doesn't stop it being good...
I've been downloading the Darksiders one on Xbox live tonight, but my slow internet connection doesn't like downloads over a gig. <_<'
Ah well, I'll have something to play if my "Way of the Samurai 3" isn't in stores tomorrow.
(Shopto has March as a release date, while the store where I pre-ordered hasn't changed their 26/02 as release.)
I had gow III promo demo, but i never played darksiders before.
After playing the demo, i have mixed feelings. The enviroment, voiceacting and puzzles are great but the controls are afwul and the demo provides you little information how to control your character and what some buttons do. Every single button does something and it gets confusing easily. I jumped several times into a pit, just because i though my character will go down faster on the wall, not jump off the wall. Or i was flying over the pit with my newly aquired wings and suddently they dissapeared, cause i had them on for too long and i ended up in the pit. How could i know that?!
A practical demostration of button confusion, at the end of the demo * MINOR SPOILER* you fight a flying boss. First, you have to pick up a bomb with O, then press r3 to go into aiming mode and throw the bomb with the r2 button. After that, you have to, im aiming mod, lock on to the nearest fire wth l2, then lock on the boss, again with l2, while staying in aiming mode and press r2. Wow... *SPOILER END*
I havent finished the demo, i lost patience(i played on the hardest but still...)
Yeah, i remember other annoying thing, i picked up a bomb with O and tried to throw it... with O? No. With X? No. With R2! Till i figured that out 2 bombs exploded in my hand, almost killing me.

First time I ever (yes, ever) touched a GoW game in any way. Part of me felt "People preferred this over DMC? REALLY!?". It's just so clunky in comparison to DMC or Ninja Gaiden. I still enjoyed it but I have to say I think people have raved about it a bit too much. Saying that, the end of the demo got me. Wanted to carry on, I'll admit.
Immediately tried the Darksiders demo after it. It's basically the same style of game, I swear...only not as good and dodgey camera and controls (amount of times I fell into a pit instead of jumping when I wanted to...). Had issues with what button threw the bomb, too. It didn't seem too bad overall but felt a little God of War-like.
Just from the demos alone, both just aren't as smooth sailing as DMC was. They all have camera issues but I'm just really, really surprised people have put GoW on some sort of pedestal given the controls and feel of the game aren't THAT amazing. Good but seems so overrated. The jump animation is pretty bad, as well. Made me laugh actually. I know he's a built guy but that jump was awful. Anyway, don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the demo. I just don't think the controls and play mechanics flow as nicely as DMC3 did.
Spike, you just have slow internet, its not PSN problem. Darksiders demo(1,5gb)took me about 15 minutes to download. GOW III longer, but not so long i had to wait like 1 hour...
Ryu, be careful with those words there, you might start a flame war(with me, of course :D).
I had the same view as you, what is so amazing about god of war? Well, i played recently(month ago)both games and they are AMAZING, best hack´n´slash titles evar - great camera, great controls, simple plot, great enviroment, just pure greatness. After playing god of war III demo i felt: Hm, its the same as the other two games, no big deal.
BUT when i saw today GTTV on gametrailers, my eyeballs almost exploded by the awesomeness of god of war III gameplay that was shown there. I had to watch the whole episode again(which is 20 minutes)to believe what i saw there. Imagine bayonetta. Imagine the biggest boss battle there. Multiply his size 3 times and there you have it, a boss battle in gow III :P. The demo doesnt show what scale means in gow, if you though that titan in the backround is scale, you are mistaken :P. Go watch GTTV, NOW! :D

Thats the thing I don't have a slow internet.
I got the darksiders demo in under 5 mins on XBL
I re downloaded left 4 dead over 5GB on the PC in under 30 minutes from steam yesterday.
But PSN is so slow.
I won a free code for burnout paradise and all DLC on PSN Wednesday just over 4GB and that took 7 hours to download.
Yet i can stream a 1080p film at full 1080p resolution on PC and 360 (ps3 does not stream from PSN)
My NAT type is 1 and fully open so it is PSN on my end and not my connection.

Ok, sorry my bad but to the main point, how did you won that code? :D

I entered a competition ages ago and only found the email Wednesday with the code, did not realize i had won.

I fully agree with this PS3 downloads are so slow took me over 3 hours to get the demo and there is nothing wrong with my internet connection maybe its a uk psn thing.
As I've said before, I'd happily pay subscription fees for PSN if it meant I had a faster and more reliable connection, will probably leave it downloading GOW3 as I sleep.
As for GOW, I'll give the series a chance and will probably buy it if I like the demo, I will probably chase up that nice collection of all 3 games, if not, all I need is the 2nd on PS2. All I've played is the first game, didn't like it, felt far too clunky compared to other titles at the time, and yet, others hold it in high regard, I suppose I am developing a nasty habit of folding to others, same with Bayonetta, disliked the demo, yet bought it because others wouldn't shut up about it, actually played the full game and found it satisfactory nigh enjoyable.
