This is a feature usually applicable to the forum software being used just now.

It's a pretty simple rep system which can be edited to allow certain users certain levels of access.

It's pretty simple in the sense that, if you mak a good post and others like it, there should be a little button under their achievments that say "add rep to this user". If you make a really bad post that people don't like you could be able to take rep away.

The idea i've seen this used is that. Each member can only give +1 rep, and can't give out neg rep. Special members would give out +15 and can take away -15, and mods and admins do +/- 25 rep.

However this forum isn't as active as the others. Therefore, maybe alter the values a little and say each member can give out +5 rep. Etc. Also since this forum has an achievment basis, maybe have bronze, silver and gold achievments depending on how much rep you earn.

Just a thought.

Edit: The rep button for each posts usually sits next to the report post button under each post. <<<

I don't think it would be fair to keep info from people who are new to the forum...

With the exception of the occasional flamer, we're all here because we love Capcom games right? There's no need for distinction between people who love the same thing!

Besides, I know from back in my haydays, that when you register on a new forum, it's always intimidating to be the guy with no rep, surrounded by giants with over a thousand posts, who's name and personality everybody knows already...
Or is that just me? ;)

No sorry, I didn't mean "block certain users to certain part of the sites". Nono.

What I meant was about certain users got more rep powers than others. Those certain members would be members who proved their loyalties to the forum for certain things. Of course, I'm only taking an idea seen previously, which could be altered in anyway.

Also, being a new member I don't think it would be imitating more as a "role-model" standard. If you can call it that. Just to show people what the standard is for posting and hopefully encourage them to work towards those achievments.

Just to clarify, I didn't mean block parts of the site for people with less rep. Sorry.

I think that Loyalty Points already give an indication as to a user's loyalty to this site. ;)

Yeah, what I meant was to tailor the rep system around the loyalty points.

For example. People who make it to 5/12 loyalty points would have the ability to rep more than others.

Rep wasn't an idea to replace loyalty points but to work alongside it, maybe adding to achievments system this forum has going on.

I Agree with Jarlino here, big numbered members with the power to determine who gets in the club is intimidating, there's no real benefit for having the reputation, and like all systems it can be abused, I'm always questioning claims, sharing my views, challanging points and opinions, not everyone takes my shared views lightly despite being legit in posting. Restrictions can make people not want to bother, and there are always the groups for fans to join, third party services too.

I suppose this is why postcount is reduced to a statistic rather than an item actively under the name.

I honestly don't believe in the "my reputation is bigger than yours" philosophy that some communities embrace. As far as I'm concerned (and it seems that most members tend to agree with me) anybody old or new has the same status here, being new to this place shouldn't be perceived as lower level. As Dante says, that's the reason why the post count is merely a piece of stats and not flagged as a badge of honour. Quality is better than quantity in my view.

It could work for threads specifically intended to give advice, but that's what the star system (which about 3 people use...) is for.

I'm grateful this place isn't about numbers, theres an element of getting to know people rather than judging them based on a high score.
