View Full Version : Weapon ideas?
I got bored so I decided to make this topic
Has anyone got an idea for a weapon type to put in the game? Be imaginative.
I think that having fighting gloves would be cool, so you can use them to punch and block.
They could still, have strength and elemental attack, but they could have defence and resistance as well so you dont need arm armour.
Any more ideas?
I would say a flail, and whips;) it would be awsome like a spec for whip could be knoking the creature over
but have a rechage rate like gunlance, and flail spec could be like duels but slower but more damage

I would love a staff.....you could hit them with it, but different staffs have different combinations that perform spells, e.g. healing, poison, paralyze, fireball, etc. Taking on the monsters with magic would be amazing!

Whips are a rather lovely idea. Perhaps you could grapple with a monster every so often and then use your stamina to charge the whip and deliver elemental damage(such as stun.)
I would quite like to see spears/javelins/polearms, perhaps shielded. Some would argue that they would be lances, yet they would be lighter, quicker and weaker so as to feel new. Many also wish to see single-handed/double-handed swords akin to what Templar nights would have used, personally I would also like to see them with banners on the players back(akin to Yoshimitsu in Soul Calibur, if you will.)
Gauntlets are another old idea. You could also incorporate Claws into that class, yet I am not sure how well the attacks would function as you would have to be horrifically close and you would not have the advantages of being able to cut tails.
In terms of historical weapons - the majority have already been covered. So it is up to Capcom to create slightly adapted ideas: such as hunting horns, gun-lances etc.
in monster hunter artwork there is one weapon that appears very often yet is not in game
double ended blades, a bit like zidane in ff9 wields, they look awesome

ah yes, id love to see that too, itd be freaking awesome! @_@
Also, id probably like to see spears or polearms with their own movesets (not lance, spears as in, holding with both hands). Something like ancient chinese soldiers or even better, taichi spear or sword wielding =P itd be awesome.
the artwork also features a wierd item a couple of times, its like a spear but has a sort of hook thing on it, hard to describe but its like a trap i think

[/quote]everyone likes SnS, and theyre close
besides, it would be cool to be able to use grabbing moves on enemies, like if you grab somethings leg and pull it they fall over, and so on(that wasnt too imaginative, but Im sure better ideas would spring to mind)

Yes, but Sword and Shields and Dual Swords have speed and slicing properties which allows you the added bonus of being able to cut tails while being close. Gauntlets would be a blunt force akin to hammers, thus, not grant such things. Grab moves really should not be within Monster Hunters arsenal as it would cheapen the gameplay and remove the difficulty; which sort of negates whip-grabs as well. I think everything should abide by the rules of the already existing weapons.

no, i believe you should be able to grab, then youd grab a rathalos, hed fly, skydive, and drop you of a ledge leading you to a quick death!

I feel that would break down the current game-mechanics that are already in place. Monster Hunters weapons are loose and unfocused, which is partly where the difficulty comes from. As soon as a monster becomes something you can physically interact with(climb, grab, stab ) then the core gameplay and challenge is lost. It would be like having a lock-on button in the previous Monster Hunter titles. I think Gauntlets should function in the same manner as dual swords. Quick and powerful hitters that remain true to all of the existing weapon classes and gameplay elements. That may simply be me. I know that some want wyvern riding etc.

i agree, i wouldnt like the idea of grabbing, climbing, etc. It gives it more of the lock-on feel as deadmensboots has stated. It would be cool if there were special fights where you can climb and stuff (e.g. Lao Shan) but i dont want that happening on our current monsters (i love them the way they are).
moreover, if gauntlets would be included, id want them to be impact type weapons and not include claws. I believe claws are already used in MHFro, with the new Short Dual Swords weapon with their new long/short weapons system.

oh dont you get me started or ill ironize you young mister! *scratching a long beard* (just for there to be no misunderstandings, this is me being playful, not being blindly enraged at you), and when you mentioned wyvern riding i just thought of how sad it would be to see someone riding a khezu. (those who dont understand dont worry, you will soon enough)
nontheless, now speaking a bit more seriously.
I dont think interaction with monsters is a bad thing (ill kill you if you try to take away the carves on laos back), it just has to be measured.
But yes, actually grabbing a wyvern is more for imagining jokes than anything else, The game would become too easy, dodging would no longer be such and important skill (as in user side skill, not armor skill), too much would be lost IMHO.
when i asked for gauntlets i was thinking on the punching and kicking kinda thing, though i understand that capcom is trying to not make is TOO surrealist, and weapon systems have to be well thought of(this applies to all of them, so far they have).
id also like to see scythes (not ls, ds or GS that look like a scythe, i mean a real scythe), flails, etc
edit: i should have made a pun at megaman T_T (forte)
i thought his irony was quite obvious... guantlets are certainly cool but hunters are really lithe, unless you could bulk up your avatar i think it would look a bit unusual
and yea grabs would just be rubbish imo
