With the huge success of Final Fantasy 7, and the mass of people following it (almost like a cult), you could argue and say that this won't ever happen, as too many fans would like the original game to stay exactly how it is.

However, with how well received the game is (even to this very day), it's a given that it will get a re-release some day.

I said years back it would, and I got laughed at, but money wise, it makes sense.

So anyway, I came across this, this morning, and thought you might want to take a look:

Asked yet again what he'd think about remaking PSone classic Final Fantasy VII, Square Enix's Yoshinori Kitase - producer of FFXIII and director of FFVII back in the day - has said he'd be "really interested" in such a project.

"I'm really interested to see this more complete form of Final Fantasy VII portrayed more realistically with the voice and animation and all the subtle expressions there," he told GameTrailers (via VG247).

"I'd be interested to see that and to make that, it would be a great experience. I don't get tired of people asking that question," Kitase added, apparently without sarcasm, "so I'll continue to answer my thoughts as long as people keep asking."

Back in the present, his latest opus, Final Fantasy XIII, releases here on 9th March. Find much more on the FFXIII gamepage.

So, what do you all think about this, and would you be happy to see a release on the PS3 or 360?

Lol, I've beaten 7 and 9, and could beat 10, if I didn't keep powering everyone up.

Tidus can do 64,000 damage with one hit, though his hp is only like 22,000.

I just want to do as much as I can before I beat it. I've only beaten one Dark Aeon so far, and that was Dark Valefor.

I'm so conflicted with this. I'd love to see an update to Final Fantasy 7's graphics, especially Advent Children style, but that's all. Wouldn't want anything else touched.

For now though I just want Sony to hurry up and release FF9 on the PSN store! Got 7 and 8 but it's 9 I want most as I didn't play it anywhere near as much as I should have the first time round.

It would be awesome if they made a remake of this great game. The fans want it and the developers seems interested enough so i would say there is a big chance that this will happen someday.

And i never forget the PS3 tech demo of the FFVII intro, just imagine the complete game like this :3

I never got round to playing FF VII so I would love to see it re-released with next gen graphics. I heard it was amazing but only ever got an odd glance at it at my friends house. I feel I missed an amazing title but it is just too much hassle to get the PS1 version of it now.

I played FF VIII however and would gladly buy it if it came out on xbox 360 tomorrow with updated graphics and possibly a few bonus features.

It's arguably the most desired game in the last god knows how many years. Millions of fans all over the world crave such an ambitious title and I would love to play it (I own the original but it's hard to resist a truly new generation revitalisation).

Square-Enix are also somewhat interested in the prospect (as mentioned above and elsewhere) so it's more of a 'when' scenario than an 'if'.

There have been comments made recently by Kitase-san regarding the difficulty of such a project though, with points regarding the ginormous environments and towns that would be remade in HD. Definitely an expensive and arduous task but something that isn't impossible as the PS3 is a console that has enough tech juice to handle it.

A lot of people feel that way, but I think if it was going to be remade, they would have to change things, in order for it to please gamers of today.

It may be one of the best rpg's ever, but it's certainly not without its faults.

That's for FF9 - It' one of my favourite Final Fantasies, and is extremely under-rated, which is a shame really. It told an extremely good story, though. :D

I didn't ever get tired of watching that. It looked so amazing when it was shown at a Sony conference (was it at E3? It was a good while back, that's for sure), and with the technology always advancing, I feel it would look even better than what it did in the technical demo. :D

I completely agree with you, Alex. Final Fantasy 7 already had a huge following, but what with the release of Advent Children, and more recently, Crisis Core on the PSP, there's no doubt in my mind that even more people would be interested in a remake of the PC and PS1 classic.

There was something mentioned about the development time for this, quite a while back. Somebody high up in Square (possibly Nomura himself) said that it would take 6 years to develop and get this game shipped out, and possibly even more time, due to the amount of projects they have going on with all of their development teams.

That was said a few years ago, so I'm pretty certain we'll see a release, but who knows if we'll be waiting until 2014, or even longer?

I would love to see it reborn again, and I think if it was to come out on anything, then PS3 should be the number one choice, as the original was on Playstation, so I don't see why this can't follow suit, and harness the power of the 8 parallel processors, which the PS3 contains. :D

It depends on what hold Sony has on Final Fantasy VII. They published the PSOne version and no doubt that was partly the reason why the game was transferred to PSN and not XBL, due to this exclusivity deal back then.

Whether or not they would have the same hold on a PS3 remake is unknown. We've seen how Final Fantasy XIII has been affected by the multiplatform status of it (no towns, etc.) so unless we want a FFVII without half its content, Sony would probably have to pull some strings again. A Final Fantasy VII remake would undoubtedly have more content than Final Fantasy XIII so I can see where the difficulty would lie in any given decision.

CaptainCortez
16-02-10, 12:15
Well, yea. Final Fantasy XIII is multi-format, where as Final Fantasy Versus XIII is PS3 exclusive, but as a Final Fantasy is on the 360 now, what's to say that when 7 gets a re-release, it won't go to 360, too?

As proven by Capcom, it makes sense from a business standpoint to go multi-format on everything. This is mainly to do with how much it costs to produce a game in todays market, which to me, is why there are less and less exclusives as time goes on.

Sony would need to pay a pretty big sum to secure this, unless Square decide to do it, to strengthen their relationship with Sony, due to them having a lot of previous business history together.

Carbonox_Ratchet

All depends on what makes the most sense and who steps in with what benefits. Just don't expect Final Fantasy XIII production values and the entire content (and possibly more) of Final Fantasy VII if it were multi-platform. Final Fantasy XIII has done a good job of showcasing what happens when consoles produce barriers.

Anywho, we're talking several years now most likely, due to other commitments from Square-Enix. We've got Versus XIII and Kingdom Hearts 3 to go through first before any FFVII remake starts to go through the motions. Basically, next year could be the start of the train.

Well, I certainly hope so.

I forgot entirely about Kingdom Hearts 3, and have been focusing on the PSP title; Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep.

It looks absolutely amazing, and I reckon it'll be a day one purchase from me.

Then, as far as Final Fantasy Versus XIII goes, I think out of the Fabula Nova Crystallis compilation, it looks to be the best one, and is being made on an advanced Kingdom Hearts system, supposedly. It's just a lot more mature.

I'm hoping we'll see or hear some information on the remake at, or by next years E3 Expo. Even then, it might still be way too early.

As much as I love my xbox, I think if they did remake 7 it should just stay on playstation. Im getting 13 on PS3 mainly because of the PSP game that is coming out too, and I hear they're going to have some link up capabilities.

Also KH3 FTW!

Remain calm and just breathe.

I think it shouldn't be remade, and I loved, I mean really loved FF:VII. But the reason that I don't play it now, isn't because of the graphics, the cartoony looks are still awesome. I don't play it because of the fact I have played it to death. Yeah I would love to see Tifa in HD ;) but I just think that if they go ahead with it Square have more to lose than they do to gain.

I have to agree with the developers on this one. If you go and play FF7 on your PSone [or PSP/PS3!!] now and have a close look at all the details in the environment - to remake all that in HD is easier said than done. They would need an army of artists and animators to pull that off!

This is why FFXIII doesn't have conventional RPG towns, as the developers didn't want to compromise with bland repetitive scenery, when they're going for the very busy and unique look the franchise is famous for.

That said, it's not impossible. It's just a case of measuring production costs versus profit. Logically thinking, I reckon the studio would rather aim for shorter projects that involve less risk and look at potential new IPs that would make the same amount of profit as a FF7 remake.

I actually hope they dont re make 7. it is one of my favorite all time games and i have completed it three times but it is a product of it's time. it still holds up well now and plays very well but it a gameplay style that has been completley outdated. as the recent DS remakes of 3 and 4 proved it is difficult to recapture the magic and scale of those games simply by giving them a current gen make over. 3 in perticular was just a dull grind and 4's difficulty level (also leading to much grinding) killed the story (i spent that long grinding i lost track of the narative despite completing 4 on the GBA). 7 would need such an overhaul to make it apeal to what is a reletivly niche market in the west that it would be unrecognisable as the origional game (thus alienating the niche market that would have bought it). I, as a massive and unashamed FF fanboy, would be happier with a PSN/Live arcade or psp port of the origional to play once my ps2 finally dies.

WORD !!! - if it were about the Game to remake, it would be def easier and def finer to just play the old. If it then were bout the Characters, it would be def easier and def finer to just make a new.:spy:

I'm still greatly doubting a remake, but there's been no definite word that it's not happening.

I think that FF7 has gotten a bit stale. While I do love it, I don't want to see a remake, I'd've loved it a couple of years back, but I feel that really Squeenix should shift focus to expanding another universe. If one is released though, I'd happily buy it, assuming there were additions to the game such as new enemies and dungeons.

Now I'd love to see more FFIX stuff...

Yeah, me too. It was by far the best FF. They could even do a side-game (like Crisis Core was to FF7) and I'd be happy.

Just a little bit more information for you all:

Yoichi Wada, President and CEO of Square Enix, has said that the Japanese publisher is considering a remake of the fan favourite Final Fantasy VII.

Don't expect a remake to be announced any day soon though, according to Wada the company isn't even sure what platform it would bring Final Fantasy VII to.

"Right now we don't have a clear direction, but many fans have requested we remake Final Fantasy VII," he told Siliconera. "We're going to explore the possibility - whether or not we're going to do it, if we're going to do it, and the platform."

Last month, Final Fantasy XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase said: "If it were possible that we had all the right facilities and the right environment to be able to make and prepare a Final Fantasy VII remake within a year, we'd very much like a go at it!"

Like i said in FF13 chit chat, they shouldve never made 13 but remake of 7. 13 is just the worst FF ever, fans r beggin for a 7 remake for so long. Now even tho FF13 is a success, but most of the fans dislike the new one. Maybe they will make em happy again with the FF7 remake. But please NOT anythin new, just the graphics, nothin else. :)
