View Full Version : It's pancake day tomorrow
I'm going to get some maple syrup and blueberries, and make some pancakes. I have my usual recipe, which produces thick fluffy pancakes, but I'm tempted to try this one (it's much simpler) http://www.chow.com/recipes/12043
It looks a bit confused though.
What about you guys?

My attempts at making them last year were a bit underwhelming. They ended up getting all burnt up and sticking to the pan. :D
I will stick to just baking cakes and all that for now.
Why have 1 day when you can make them the whole year.Go crazy!
You think that's bad; I made peanut and bacon brittle on Saturday, and only 2 people would even try it!
I think it's nice though.
And I won't be flipping anything in my pan; here's an Amazon review:
Le Creuset's 26 cm Non Stick Frying Pan Is A good pan but WOW!!!is it heavy.I would advise anyone considering buying one to firstly before buying it to take up weight lifting and possibly do a Charles Atlas course as well. You need two hands to lift the pan when it is empty and four hands when it is full and I don't know anyone with four hands. We have a Le Creuset casserole which although heavy, having two handles makes it much easier to lift.I know that cast iron is heavy but WOW! this frying pan is HEAVY,HEAVY,HEAVY.

As a foreigner, I have never heard of pancake day:
Please, enlighten me!
I have some "insta-pancakes" in the fridge at home, so I might as well celebrate with my English brothers. 8D
Pancake day and Mardi gras are basically celebrating the same thing, and it's to do with religious fasting (a bit like Ramadan I think).
Basically, tradition has it that lent forgoes rich fancy foods for 2 weeks or something.
Pancake day takes the view that your milk and eggs will have gone off by then, so you use them all up by making pancakes!
I'm not a huge fan of English (flat) pancakes, so I'll be making American (fluffy) pancakes. That said crepes done right are a Good Thing.

If you want the best pancakes ever, then put banana's with them! They taste sooooooo so good. :D
Whenever I cook pancakes or anything, it sticks to the pan, as I haven't got a non stick pan. They still taste nice, though!
I'll let my friends know it's pancake day tomorrow, and see what they're planning.
Soop - Blueberries are OMG nice, haha.

They should make a new series for it now...would be much better than the tripe they try and pass off as Robin Hood now...

Me too!
I sat next to Kate Lonergan (maid marian) on a train journey from manchester to london once, wonderful lady! Really funny too. We drank G&T's the whole journey and she told me about all the things they used to get up to in filming. Got her to sign my book on pirates too :D

I'd rather p-p-p-pick up a penguin! :p
I know what I miss. Strawberry sauce!!! That stuff was amazing, oh and I'd love to have a banana milkshake with some pancakes. :D
This is fast, fun and upbeat. I think we should all listen to this whilst making pancakes, haha:

I am going to go pancake crazy! I love them. I have tried vanilla ice cream before...not so great. I will be sticking with lemon and sugar.
And if your going to suggest any song it has to be Jack Johnson - Banana Pancakes

Oh nao, pessima ideia!Pancakes feitas por mim possivelmente podiam ser a ultima coisa que comias Joao! :p
So when Easter comes can we talk about the hot cross buns? You know, because hot cross buns are the business.
Oh, I didn't know Jack Johnson wrote songs about pancakes.I knew of the writer's block but now this is something I have to go and listen. "To youtube and beyond"

I'm not a huge fan of traditional English pancakes although I do love crepes. Had a delicious nutella and marshmallow crepe on Saturday. :D
