It seems DeviantArt have decided to make clear their views on Tracing.
Many of you should be fully aware of what tracing is.
It is not creating an original piece of work by using somebody elses work (such as making a collage out of many pictures).
Tracing is essentially doing an exact copy of another persons work.
DA have now said that this is fine, as long as it is changed mildly (a re-colour, for example). After you have traced and re-coloured, you may feel free to sell it as your own work.
The examples that DA try to use to back this up is that, for instance, DaVinci got his helpers to trace his work so they could put it on the Sistine Chapel.
What many people will realise about this, however, is that DaVinci ASKED these people to do it. he gave them ERISSION to use his work for a job that HE was given.
DA also point out that it is possible for artistss to complain and get the traced work removed...but considering the relative size of DA, it is often impossible to find a single piece of work if you do not know for certain that it exists.
Im posting this as a warning to anybody here that uses DA and feels this is wrong.
