Hey guys, how old is socket 939? My Motherboard is An Asus a8n delux or something, and I'm considering a small upgrade.

I can't remember what speed my CPU is at the moment, but I'm checking out what I can get at the moment. Otherwise next month I could consider a motherboard and CPU.

It's not used for anything particularly demanding, but dual core and hyperthreading would be good, as it performs a lot of background tasks like video recording/encoding.

I've just been looking at http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/charts/desktop-cpu-charts/Encoding-Video-DivX,357.html
I don't understand... If the chart above gives 300 for a processor 2 years old, how can it give 300 for the best processor in the same test today?

Emh... probabily you are reading that chart upside down... less time is better.

Oh yeah!

Still, the same time in seconds 2 years apart for CPUs is really bad! And I can't afford an i7

Perhaps you better ease yourself down on what you got and look for what you can have - I learned. In some while, there may have another 2 years passing by and yet another machine, and though you didn't effort the up-to-now you might not experience any bad negative circumstances about it. I had to work with a 233 Mhz Pentium up unto about 1 year ago!!!! (Before that I had an 800 Mhz AMD, while the motherboard sometime chose to become a smoker ;) ... bad thing! (It was the time where 900 Mhz was the cream on Top! ... System Shock 2 ... Unreal Turnament, Quake 3 - those times ... so long ... :stretcher:)
