If you would go to a island full of zombies and other RE creatures and your only allowed to bring only one firearm with plenty of ammo, what weapon would that be?

A shotgun. The buckshots will tear anything apart at close range and if we get sabot rounds as extra, you can get kills from even as far as 300-400 metres. Shotguns are marvellous, universal in every situation. Id probably pick the Benelli M4 Super 90.
But if we really got to choose, Id pick Chuck Norris.
I was waiting for someone to say Chuck Norris.
Id bring a katana, a cowboy hat and some really tight speedos.

Chuck Norris special weapon is the roundhouse kick, no BOW, no ammount of BOWs will withstand that kind of punishment. As for me controlling him- Ill just tell him the zombies used to be Vietnamese soldiers who held American troops as POWs, simple.

my main option would be a Metal Gear REX or the Shagohod, but gun wise, i would take the Cerberuses from gungrave

Forget the Magnum, I would rather bring MacGyver with me, he would make some kind of explosive from a tree sap and destroy all the zombies :D

Realistically...a boat...so I could leave the island... :D
The Gravity gun from Half Life 2 would be pretty awesome. Pick up a tree...throw it at the Zombies. Pick up a zombie, throw it at the zombies...pick up a licker...throw it at the zombies...
Portal gun to...Place it at the top of a really high drop...then place the entrance underneath the zombies ^_^
BFG 9000 would be pretty cool to.
Hmm...Space Marine armour would be pretty cool to...especially if I had the weaponry with it. Or Iron Mans suit...

The Alien Blaster from Silent Hill which shoots green infinite bullets or Heather Beam from SH3 the problem with the last I guess Iam also equipped in a strange sailor moon outfit when using it and its not pretty on me being a guy and all,on the other hand it looked pretty strange so I guess it would not be that pretty on a girl ethier :P
Realisticly we dont have so many firearms in my country if one not happen to be a hunter(or maybe police or in the military) or so.
So I guess I would equip me with closest weaponary avaiable in the Kitchen like large knife or a Car to run the undead down hopefully.
little off topic your guys probably already heard that in RE5 you wont be able to buy your weapons from a merchant but you find them onself and use the money to upgrade them and if you miss a weapon its gone forever or atleast during that gameplay.
Sound marvelous in my ears if its all true that is and guess one must explore fully each stage etc which I missed somewhat in RE4 if one not searched for a certain file ofcourse.

Thats actually a great idea noone has picked up on yet. You can mix gasoline up with plastic/rubber/insulation materials so it sticks to targets a la napalm style.

Napalm can be very nasty though. If you get your aim slightly wrong, or you loose control of the fire...
Ive made napalm before, and it did some damage let me tell you ;)
If you were just on a small island with a tonne of Zombies, Id say Napalm would be a last resort :P
Fire is a wildcard, its all very well roasting the enemy, but zombies dont feel the short-term pain before they die, if its not powerful enough to reduce them to ash, youre looking at a flaming mass of teeth and sharp claws with intent to eat you.
And if were talking all the Resi monsters, Fire would make G go nuclear, Crimson heads and Cerberus would run at you whilst on fire, Hunters are probably a bit too tough with scales to take long term damage and by the time its any where near a Tyrant, theyd be behind you looking down on the back of your neck with their claw coming out of your chest.
On the other hand, using it as a tool would help, as you could burn away any infectious remnants left after wards, keeping it contained would be hard though, if it spread in to a forested area youre looking at a deathtrap, with isolated and coordinated attacks you could probably kill slow moving zombies with it, especially from above since by the time they are anywhere close theyd be too burned to stand or move properly.
Experience with various zombie games and literature has taught me this, I guess games really can teach you something. :p

Good points about fire being a slow killer, but thats what napalm is for. It sticks to the target and burns slowly. You dont have to reduce a zombie to ashes, you only have to make sure its vital muscles are so damaged, they cant move, and you can do this with just a couple of minutes of good crisping. By the end of the day, you can sink as many bullets into a zombie, as you like, but unless you are a master sniper who can rack up headshots, bullets will mostly just penetrate them, with almost no effect on their momentum (see Mythbusters video for reference, where they disprove Hollywood gun magic). Hence shotguns with 00 buck or sabot rounds (maybe even those new mini grenade rounds), antimaterial rifles are way too heavy but have the same effect, explosives (homemade, fertilizer) and fire are the only ones to stop a BOW, viable ones anyway. Theres always the good old barricading yourself in.
I wouldnt worry about the island, chances are that if youre on a populated island, and zombies are on your case, youd want to restock and resupply yourself, then scorch the whole place, just to be sure. Just like Ellen Ripley said :D

True, napalm does stick but fire spreads, a zombie stumbling away in to woods would spread the fire, although it is highly effective in terms of destructive power, as are flamethrowers due to the distance they cover and the intensity, and white phospherous grenades although they lack the control, they are also intense, both are illegal in terms of warfare but since its a fantasy situation, theyd be the most effective flame based weapons if used properly.

I dont think its fair to have one weapon in such a deadly situation. So heres my weapon pack:
1- A shotgun for close encounters.
2- A sniper for tactical removals.
3- A rocket launcher with limited rockets for destroying command centers operated by zombie officials. (Assuming they are not as dumb as RE1 zombies)
