A game that was being created for the Wii that was targetted at a more mature audience.
Turned down time and again because publishers were scared to invest in a new IP.
Worth reading about, and possibly showing your support for:

we do need more mature horror games, as you get many 18 rated horror films, why not too in the gaming industry?
I myself have just finished my drafts for a horror game (tho im not one of those lame people who tries to get companies to produce it, just a sort of hobbie)
However as for this game itself, i didnt like it to be honest, looked rubbish in pretty much everyway so i wont be signing the petition
thats looks nice. shame real shame.

Not bad but the only mature rating game I am looking forward to for the first quater this year is Mad World, for this console :)

Whilst MadWorld looks interesting...I dont think itll ever offer anything more than blood and gore in a comic book style.
It is essentially No More Heroes, but in a slightly different art style, and with (apparently) even less of a storyline.
Winter is a proper Survival Horror that goes back to the roots of the genre and forces you to think about survival, whilst dealing with disturbing things.
On top of that, it is also pushing the Wii to show its true power, and also teaches Publishers that there IS a market out there for Mature rated games.
IGN: Finally, the obvious question: do you still want to release Winter for Wii? Would you do it if publishers showed an interest?
Dan: Of course. Were very pleased with what we were able to do in such a short time and would welcome the right opportunity to pick up where we left off. Meanwhile, weve kept very busy with a lot of great titles, many of which the Winter playable helped us land.
I must say that Im gonna sign for this one. It looks amazing. A Silent Hill-esque game which is made specifically for the Wii? Amazing. I especially like the look of that mechanical-seeming enemy (which is human-like). I also like the fact that they are still willing to get it out to us :)

Is it really?
Either way, Im all up for a new survival horror IP, but to me this just looks too generic. I think it would have a hard time rivaling against games such as RE5.

this is a typical quote of someone who has no idea what they are talking about but have been landed the job of interviewer, whats amazing about being specifically for the wii? its the game that should amaze not the console, the mechanical beast is what i feel let this game down the most, it was so old school that it wasnt even cool
lets take the project f.e.a.r 2 demo as a comparison for this, there is a section where the lights keep going on and off and a sort of ghost thing (yea doesnt sound scary) attacks you randomly from any direction, now the lights going on and off are realistc and explained (the room is half exploded so obv. power failings) but its not just the lights that disorientate you, you have what i shall call psychic interfereance making everything slightly more scary and are constantly seeing flashes of some woman who i kept shooting in shock. the whole thing shall give me nightmares, loved it.
now in winter although the wolf was painfully predictable and the battle unusual and akward the metal creature was just plain crap, it used shock tactics with its unsual appearance and the fact that you had no ranged weapons to make its slow progression towards you more scary. you could hear its footsteps presumably because without them the darkness would have been far less scary cause the only thing i found scary was that the developers thought it would be clever if it it could teleport on the last lights out and covered way more ground than the footsteps suggested. It then does the typical roar im a monster which is so typical of videos with cars driving through a seinic valleys or maze games, thus prooving its childishness.
I found the graphics poor and the whole id better check EVERY SINGLE BLODDY CUPBOARD!! ridiculous, after the first 20 draws with nothing in them i would have stopped searching em.
this is far more scary than the metal monster http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=muLIPWjks_M

For the most part, the game isnt meant to rival things like RE5, its just meant to be a new Horror IP for the Wii.

The bit you quoted wasnt the interviewer, it was Greenyxi. It was merely Greenyxi stating what he thought about the game.
If youve read the full article, youll notice that what that video shows is something that was made in 6 weeks to show at things like E3.
As the developer says, if they were given a publisher now there would be a lot of things to change.
And again, if you read the interview completely, youll realise that you dont HAVE to search every draw or cupboard, the developer just felt that it was a good thing to do...how many times have you gone into a Survival Horror and wondered why you can search THAT draw, but not THIS draw? Happens to me all the time.
Essentially, this video was just to show off the ideas, not the overall and eventual gameplay. It shows off the lighting effects, the heating effects, the various gameplay mechanics, horror elements, and one possible creature.
Given time, the developers could refine this to be a perfect example of Survival Horror.
And lets face it, what else is available on the Wii that offers a large amount of Mature content? For every 20 mini-game compilations, theres a good game...and only a few of those good games are rated mature.
well first id like to apoligise to green as i disliked that comment under the impression it was from and interview (dunno what gave me that impression, proberbly it was late/early, its acceptable for a consumer to make such a comment as you may only own a wii for example (tho i still dont know why you like the metal creature)
well il accept the graphics for the time span but other than that it makes little differance as the foundations to a game are still the most important aspects, and those that are shown here are not good, unless the gameplay is completly reworked, the writers, developers and producers fired and the game completly re-hauled then i still see no potential, like i said ideas like opening a door and a wolf just bursting out... thats not scary its surprising, opening a door and there being a slow door opening sequance with scary creaking sounds is scary as it builds up tension, there were no build ups, everything was horribly pridicatable and cmon the whole roar im a monster thing? thats just plain rubbish like i said it belongs in those videos and games that children are tricked into watching, not a mature horror game.
I am all in favour for mature horror games but i judge a game on the game itself not the excuses of a developer or genre its in.

How much of the article did you read?
The developer actually states that you can open doors, draws, etc at your own speed. As if you were really there.
You can pull them open slowly, or you can just forcefully open something at speed.
Also, you do seem to be forgetting that this is concept stuff...not the full game. You havent even been shown any form of storyline, so why say the writers need to be fired?
Sure, its cliche to have that monster coming up and scaring you, but seriously...how many Survival Horrors dont rely on cheap scares like that?
Oven-Man in RE4, the dogs in RE1, the Licker in RE2, the lying figures in SH2, etc, etc.
For a concept trailer that is just trying to show yes, this is a horror game it pulls it off perfectly.
I agree that it was cliche and cheap, and I hope it wouldnt make it into the full game...but its not a game ruiner.

Its fine. I dont only own a Wii though...I just like to have games that are typical to the Wii genre, when I buy a Wii game. Its what the Wii was made for: more unique playing styles. Saying that I dont like the Wii games that go over the top with the remote waving, which is why I like this.
I like that mechanical-humanish monster because of its clicheness and cheapness. Every horror game needs an enemy like that (eg the zombie, the (Ok, Silent Hill doesnt seem to have one). These tacky enemies are necessary in order to make the other enemies seem better.
:) I love the fact that you can open doors at any speed. Its a nice extra.

This does look terribly generic. Think Silent Hill 1 crossed with a terrible hollywood action film, with some boring looking gameplay and a really uninspired and unfrightening developer.
Combine that with a terrible developer and we have the reason why it was cancelled. Please, no one pick up this game for publishing. Hudson and Cursed Mountain projects look a million times better than this and theyre actually getting released (not to mention the upcoming localisation of Project Zero IV.)
I tend to agree. It seems terribly derivative and shouldnt be getting a pass simply because its on the Wii.
Usually when someone argues back at me they make a better point than i do and it tends to change my mind a little, however you are not making this game sound any better
the whole pulling draws at your own speed is merely a gimmick of the wii remote, certainly not a selling point, its not even a good point
the worst thing you have said is that the trailer says yes im a horror game like i said, you should judge a game by the game not the genre
im not saying anything against cliches im saying its using shock tatics too much and there is a difference between being shocked and scared
but then again you said I hope it wont make it into the full game again prooving that winter should not be developt
and really everything about this game is bad, how can you have the random battle in a horror game? and the battle involved shining a light into the wolfs eyes to prevent it from attacking until the player got soooooo booooored that they moved the light away from the wolf to initiate the battle process which lasted about 1 second a swift crobar to the head and the wolf is instantly killed, heck i bet you kill the mechanical beast by telling it a bed time story.

Pretty much this. Clay had some very pertinent points too.
