View Full Version : Tatsunoko VS Capcom - Lack of Promotion in Europe and UK

I did a bit of research today on release day sales of TvC UAS. I'm very dissappointed at the complete lack of promotional involvement in my local region (South of England).

There were no posters, press kits for retailers (at 2 Gamestations and 3 Game UK stores anyway..) - when I asked for a pre-order last month - they didnt know WHAT I was talking about. No TV ads, no pre order bonuses, nothing. Fans made this game happen and I feel that because of the above reasons, launch was secretly sabotaged!

Dark Void didnt pull in the crowd, but the press was inundated with info, adverts, the usual marketing fare. Yet there are dozens of left over pre order figurines that were piled under the counter (I, gratefully, managed to get 3 of them to send to some Capcom-Unity members). I know Capcom were all about pushing the new IP, but it seems Tatsunoko was left out of the loop.

There are extremely limited quantities available and I was the first person to purchase a copy at 5pm this afternoon. Sounds completely strange, but its true.. :chin: (i like these smileys! lol)

My question to the EU/UK community is - have you had difficulty in obtaining a copy, or what promotional stuff have you seen? Do you feel the same way I do about this? Please discuss!

I didn't find it in game, but I did find it in HMV for £29.99, overall I've seen very little marketing, either that or it was so good that the animé and manga fans scooped up every copy from the shops on release day.

wow 30 pounds is a bit overpriced I would say when zavvi has it for £17.95 http://www.zavvi.com/games/platforms/nintendo-wii/tatsunoko-vs-capcom-ultimate-all-stars/10068002.html

I think that Dark Void suffered the same fate, if it wasn't for this website I would have never heard of it until release day.

I posted similar news to this yesterday (and when I was also trying to pre-order a couple weeks ago) http://www.capcom-europe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=38761&page=9

I bought the game yesterday but I popped into town again today (to pay bills :() and checked my stores again and there was nothing at all in gamestation or Game (although gamestation said they had 3 copies in yesterday so I asume they've been sold?). I walked up to HMV and they had about 10 copies in (although no promtional stuff)... so at least people can get the game in my city (Plymouth) - although not from the main computer game retailers?

I'm going shopping tomorrow at Tesco so I'll report back to see if they've had any copies in.

Maybe things will change and pick up next week?? ..I really hope so as the more people that are aware of it and purchase it would hopefully lead to a sequal.

@MOX: I can't believe how cheap the game is listed on zavvi! ...thats a right bargain for £17.99!

From what I've seen it's just the GAME group (Gamestation are part it too) that seem to be sucking on the TVC front. I've seen it buried in their A-Z. My local HMV stores seem to have quite a few copies and on open display.

I haven't located a fight stick yet.

Every major store in Antwerp (Belgium) I've been to in the past week had the game since thursday. ;)

And I've spoken to a couple of French Belgians who got the game on release date, so I'm guessing it's well spread out over here. ^_^

Can't complain about the lack of advertisement, but it was very hands-on by Capcom:
The game has been shown at every possible Expo chance, Play-events and the Capcom Christmas Party.

Also, I believe there was that stop-motion trailer that has been circulating around the net. 8)

Sorry guys, no great conspiracy, thats just the way it is sometimes. For what ever reason stores decide they don't wish to sell the game or only want to buy a small amount there is very little we can do to change their minds, unfortuantly our promotional spend is linked with these numbers.

That said as much money was spent on promoting TvsC as there was Dark Void. It might be that you haven't seen any advertising or promotions as you are not our target for promotions?

For example if we wanted to reach Wii owners who didn't know about the game with a love of retro manga aged 25+ we would buying advertising on certain websites (Eurogamer), attend certain events (MCM) and in certain magazines (Neo).

I walked around about 6-7 Game shops in Birmingham (GAME/ Gamestation/HMV) on Saturday and failed to see a single copy for sale, admittedly I wasn't looking for it (I'd forgotten it'd been released), but that's the point isn't it?

It's not really uncommon for game-specialized stores here in Portugal to miss out on releases, but I was a bit surprised to find out that no store had the game on it's relase date, nor up until today (and I bet there won't be any, either).

This is extremely bad, because I know a truckload of people who want this game BADLY (this, the upcoming Guilty Gear Accent Core Plus and Tales of Graces), but they don't own a Wii (I wouldn't own one either, if my little brother didn't want one too).

And the problem lies there: the worthwhile games for the Wii are all coming out NOW. The games that appeal to an audience other than the casual gamer are being announced one after the other... Capcom could've tried as hard as they wanted, but it wouldn't matter. Since I got Mega Man 9 (can't wait for 10), and seeing this game released in Europe, Capcom rose to godly levels, alongside the dead Squaresoft (die Square-Enix). It's the only company nowadays that seems to know and deliver what fans want. They clearly care.

Apart from insisting on releasing RE on-rails shooters (srsly, wtf) instead of a remake of Resident Evil 3 or something along the lines of RE4, Capcom haven't really done anything wrong, in my opinion.

But still, I hope this game, along with the other great ones like Twilight Princess and the free online service, might begin persuading more people to get Wiis.

The sales has been published by ELSPA for last weeks Wii sales! Although no total units, we can estimate how well its done by the chart below.

1. Wii Sports Resort
2. New Super Mario Bros. Wii
3. Mario Kart Wii
4. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games
5. James Cameron's Avatar: The Game
6. Tatsunoko vs Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars
7. Your Shape
8. F1 2009
9. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games
10. FIFA 10

Although dominated by Nintendo products, I think it's done ok considering how niche this game is in the first place, and lets be honest, more people have probably heard of Mario than Tatsunoku...

For all the format software's, I think it managed to earn 38th place. With Mass Effect 2 leading in the charts.

Any thoughts? How will it effect the Capcom Vs. series?

Went to get it at game. I couldnt see it anywhere so I asked the guy in the shop, he told me he saw a review on it and said I might have to get it off the nintendo store. I was like wtf

went to HMV that was close to that game and bought it there and now it is my all time favourite game. woo
