View Full Version : The sell your games thread!

CaptainCortez

Hey everyone!

So, I figured I'd make a thread where we can mention our unwanted games, and then anyone else in the community can pm that person if they're interested in the game.

This way we can do straight swaps with each other as well. Plus, there'd be a greater amount of trust, as a lot of us have met before. :)

I'm thinking about selling my sealed Limited Edition copy of MAG (steelbook), which I got about a week early....last night, along with some of my old PS2 games, as someone else might have more use for them than me.

I might be in the market for Shadow of colossus...

Here's What games I have marked with an asterisk with what I might consider selling/swapping at the right price:

360
Gears of War 2*
StreetFighter 4
Bionic Commando
Burnout Paradise
Rainbow 6 vegas (I think)*
Modern Warfare 2

Wii
Wii Music*
Wii Play
Wii Sports
No More Heroes*
MotoGP (I kind of consider this a gift from Tenebra)
House of the Dead Overkill +2 handcannons*

PS2
Ace Combat (either distant thunder or squadron leader)*
Katamari Damacy (U.S. edition, thus I can't play it *kicks stuff over*) *
Guitar Hero 1,2,3 and 2 guitars*
Singstar rock ballads + legends
Burnout Dominator*

Just playing devils advocate here, not meaning to offend anyone but surely using a developer and publishers website to advertise their games for trade or sale is a bit off no? Swapping or selling a game to someone is potentially stopping a retail sale.

Just SwapShop. May be able to get away with it :)

Well, I did actually think about this before making the topic, but I feel (and still stand by it) that it's fine.

I'm not representing Capcom. It's in the general section of the forum, so isn't likely to cause any harm to Capcom, and it'd be a good thing to talk about (in my opinion).

Also, retail stores sell pre-owned games, and I sometimes sell a game that I'm 100% done with. I don't see any problem with it at all.

What made me decide that a topic like this is worthy, is the fact that so many people buy games, complete them, and then just leave them to collect dust. That my friend, is a shame.

Why have games collecting dust, when other people might be interested in buying or swapping something with them? At least somebody else can enjoy what you no longer care for, then.

So yea, sorry if I seem like I'm offending you, but I would hope that you don't see me as a person who goes out of his way to stir up trouble.

It's a community. It's an ideal place for this idea.

I'm after Rez if anyone has it? Been looking for it for years, but no joy. :(

Theres not really anything to get away with if Ten says its okay which by the fact that this thread hasnt been locked makes me assume it is then by all means advertise your games for sale or swap, dont let me stop you.

I just wondered what other people thought about the issue of reselling or swapping?

Personally its something i use to do a lot but nowadays i keep all my games because of the argument that i empathize with that it damages the industry. Lots of the big retailers actively encourage tradeing back in your games which personally i dont like as its like they want to re sell the same product multiple times whilst only paying the supplier once. Add on top of that what chiara has told me about how little publishers get per unit and it makes me feel certian retailers are very much looking after themselves with little regard for the profitability of those supplying them with there product. While it would be a pain in the butt now that we have profiles that can be accessed from any console via the marvel of the net i actually would support codes that link a game to a profile like on pc games, imho more money that goes back into the industry the better and the more games that will come out of it.

So yea, sorry if I seem like I'm offending you, but I would hope that you don't see me as a person who goes out of his way to stir up trouble.

CaptainCortez

Maybe, but I don't think companies would gain anything from it, either.

You could say for example that people should keep their games, because if you sell your old ones on, then that money doesn't go towards the people who created the game.

However, if people kept them, then they'd lose out as well.

Either way, somebody loses out in the process. It's just most people like to get a game on release, which in turn, means they're paying the full retail price, and the games company behind the said game is getting the full amount they need.

Then there are people who like to wait for the games to drop in price, and if they don't, they turn to pre-owned titles.

It's a strange chain that goes on, as the game company needs the people who are willing to pay full price. Where as the people lacking money rely on the people who've bought the said game on release, who've already traded theirs in, giving them the chance to purchase it pre-owned.

The good side to this is that the people who bought the pre-owned game will then see the title as a good game, and chances are, will buy a sequel at full price.

It depends on how you look at it, but you could say it somewhat balances itself out.

Not everyone buys pre-owned stuff, and I'd have thought that most people would always opt for the newer item, if money wasn't a problem.

Guess you guys are gonna have to wait for the boss to speak but, I kind of don't see it as a big issue. The company losing sales? Sure. If it's retro as heck or just not printed and gone from store shelves then that's no issue.

I see a big potential perk here. Find that gem you need that never shows up on eBay or costs too much (where someone here may be willing to part with it cheaper).

Here Here, Bravo.

Yeah CVX on ebay and Amazon are way not worth the price, the Plat. G.C. console only cost 15 quid. And those fools want 20 25 plus for CVX. And I missed a copy for 3 quid by a week in Belfast.

In my experience second hand games on ebay or in game stores go for 80-90% of current rrp, personally i think a person who is prepaired to pay £27 for a £30 game, wants that game regardless and if there was no option to buy second hand they would buy new and that would benefit the publisher and developer. They might have to save for a week extra but they would still buy the game new. Also like you say people can wait for a game to drop in price so personally swapping or trading in isnt something i can see myself doing again any time soon.

Personally i see a game as an experience, its kind of like a ppv, the rrp is the price you trade for that experience and imho its only fair that anyone experiencing a game pays something back to those who actually made the title.

Still i suppose its something you could turn to anything, you could say selling a second hand car is bad in the same way.

Still i probably shouldnt of said anything as it probably wasnt my place, if i wanted to talk about the subject i should of made my own thread on it but i guess i couldnt resist the irony of people using a publishers own website to re sell or swap there games as no matter which way you slice it, morally right or wrong, it doesnt matter reselling and swapping costs retail sales.

Well, I think as there's a good bit of trust between the regulars on here, we could pay with paypal or something, but send the money as a gift, so whoever is selling it can sell it for less, and not worry about paying paypal fee's.

Also, swapping's no doubt the easiest, and probably best if you both have games that you're interested in.

There's very few ps2 games I'd like, but Digital Devil Saga 2, and Rez are the only ones I can think of. Rez is so hard to find. :(

Nah, that's ok. If it's generating conversation, and seems like an interesting thing to think about, then why not? :)

Also yea, sorry. I'm having some major issues with myself at the minute, so probably take everything the wrong way. I was the same with Alex in the making Capcom bigger thread.

I think it's because right now I am seriously worried about myself, and concerned about what I'll become. I don't know if I'm a very nice person, and am trying to get over it, but it's been bothering me for a while....a very long time.

Yea, I hate that, and what I used to hate more was when someone carelessly puts the price sticker along the edge of the case. There's been a few occasions where I've taken the price sticker off, and it's ripped the cover under the plastic, due to how they placed the sticker. :(

It's like a chinese proverb. In fact, it probably is one.

This is just a guess, but it probably translates into something along the lines of if you look in one place too often, you'll miss out on something great in another location.

Or in proper english, as my brain is working: If you look too hard in one place, you'll miss out on everything surrounding you.

Yes exactly right. Basically it was my abstact way of saying.

If you worry you die, if you don't worry you still die (eventually), so why worry. (about anything)

To be honest, I think this thread is a brilliant idea. I have a huge stack of games that I know will never, ever get played again. But I won't sell them in a game store out of principle. I traded in 2 games and was given between 20-30% of what they sold them for preowned! I mean, they actually stuck the price tags on them and put them on the shelves for 300% of what I was given!

CaptainCortez
22-01-10, 13:43
Yea, it's a cruel and harsh way of how they make their money.

I don't ever sell my games to them, but it's not just for that reason.

The biggest reason is because I always make sure my disks stay in their cases, and I treat them with as much care as I can. The games which are scratched, are guess what? Pre-owned games that I've bought in the past!

I'm not going to sell a game which I have in brand new condition to a shop for £3, only for them to put the price up to £15 because of how good condition it's actually in.

I'd like to sell or swap them with other people who also take care of their games, if anything.

Not a single ps3 game of mine has a scratch, and my ps2 games (considering how much I've played a lot of them) are in almost mint condition.

Soop

I used to collect "rare" games, and have a heap of those laying around for a whole bunch of consoles.
Though by "rare", I don't mean expensive collector's editions or anything, but fun games that nobody bought an stuff.

I know I'm not ever going to touch these games again though, so if I see somebody posting that they're looking for something I have, I'll respond.

So when you post what you have for trade/selling, be sure to put some titles that you want as well. ;D

Ebay charges you 10% of what you list your items up as, and then you have to also pay for paypal's services on top of that, plus postage....ebay owns paypal, so basically ebay rip you off.

You could always pay via paypal and skip the whole ebay bit out, though.

Two popular options for payment:

Via bank transfer - account number and sort code required [PM ONLY]
Via PayPal Gift - no fees but is not secured by paypal insurance.

Yeah, I'm not giving out bank details to ANYONE!

Paypal gift sounds good, although, TBH, 10% of £6 isn't much, and you get a free positive feedback.
Plus, *works stuff out* postage is probably, what, say £1. And you could stuff it in one of Tenebras jiffybags :D

Oh yeah, Catmoo, I had a look through my games (took me ages to figure out what game "4200 Microsoft points" was, upside down)

I have Rainbow 6 Vegas, and ...oh yeah, Canis Canum Edit. Wanna swap for those? If not, I'll sort out payment. Was thinking Ebay could be a good look?

Got the both of them ^__^

I'd rather do it through paypal than ebay. I won't rip you off in any way, I'm a very trustworthy person. It's very easy to track me down, you're safe :) I'll double check on how much it is tomorrow when I pop in at work :)

Cat, how much do you get games like Brutal Legend, Dragon Age Origins, and Dante's Inferno for?

I just wondered, as they must give them to you for cheaper than what they go for on play.com. :p

I can get them cheaper but as I said I am unable to purchase them myself. I can however get Brutal Legend as it's Double Fine.

Hmmmm, I think I'll pass. I just really enjoyed BoF4 when I rented it a few years back. Thanks anyway :D

Oh, that's not an issue I assure you, it's just not wise to mail money through the post ;)

Anybody interested in a promo copy of Singstar: Take That, on PS3?

Just so you know:

A promo copy is the full game, which is usually sent out to reviewers and game websites to get a hands on with.

Anyway, I'm not a Take That fan, and kinda need the money, so if anybody is miraculously a Take That fan, it's not going to be used, and is in mint condition. I've only just received it, and have no microphones, so couldn't use it myself anyway.

Generous! I'd have it, but I hate Take That and have no PS3 :D

But singstar is that good I was contemplating getting a PS3 for it...

Aww, I'm not a singstar fan tbh. To me, it's just a five minute wonder game, which you might play at a party on a one off.

It's good for when people come around, and it's one of the few games Donna plays (and can beat me at)
