View Full Version : left 4 dead is ....
.... the best game since Resident evil ...
really fun to play , scary and action packed, TZM will definitely love it ( if he does not have it already )
many times it is too dark , i wish it there was a story line like resi , also it is tooooo short , it is meant for network gaming but still short
never the less it is really great game
just to imagine how cool it is , when i finished the first stage -No Mercy - the zombie kill count was 2000 and few hundreds on easy difficulty
so i think it is safe to say that the first stage contain zombies to kill more than re1 ,2 ,3 and CV
did any one play it ?!

A m8 has it, i finished it with him, we play it now and then but not that often ^^ I would buy it too n play with u ceo, but my **** router is broken, also i have to open ports.... AGAIN :dead:  I hate this, everytime i play online games ill log out automatically after a few mins. Back to L4D, ye, its very short, 20 levels in 4 campaigns, but a lot of fun lol. I like No Mercy the most, but the airport is cool too. What i miss r endbosses, like giant monsters ( tanks r too small n easy ^^ ).
Played it through on PC, great game.
Only thing I didnt like was the change in difficulties. Easy > Normal > Advanced is fine, but going from Advanced > to Expert is ridiculous, it feels more like you just went from Easy > Insane
Its just another average shooter. I really dont see whats so special about it. Nothing unique at all, that I can see.
Its the concept more than anything, having to survive against the hoards of zombies and having to carefully reserve certain resources, whereas other games let you take the enemies guns and supplies as you progress, things are severely limited.
The director system is awesome, it creates the enemy hordes on the fly so you can never be sure of what situations will spring up and this is certainly a welcomed break from the average guy patrolling area at the same place every game type deal with most other FPS.
You cant honestly say that youve been surrounded by hundreds of enemies in an FPS armed with just a shotgun, its an incredible experience to have them all run around as you fend off the closest ones as well as defending your team, if anything its the most unique FPS Ive played to date.

i also wish if there is more weapons to chose from and more types of monsters , boss battles
how about other survivors here and there , make sure not to shoot them or try to save them and so on

Going Gold he means hes getting a Gold xbox live account instead of basic silver.
I wish there was more features too.
I play L4D and I usually play a couple of VS matches and Campaigns.
I just wish my friends had it so we could have a big online battle.
this game is amazing,
Expert mode is so hard lol

Its just another average shooter. I really dont see whats so special about it. Nothing unique at all, that I can see.
You havent played a lot of shooters then.
Its average shooter taste may come from the fact that maneuverability, shooting and using items and interacting with the environment is so well polished, that it feels the way it should feel.
Its an excellent COOP game, but not what RE should be or should have been so I treat it as another game.

Youre right. I dont play many shooters, but thats because I dont like them at all. The only one that I like is RE4, but thats not because of the shooter aspects.
I just find them completely dull and lifeless. Anyone can press a button to shoot...
The fact that there are more enemies just means that there are more button presses; still not unique. Same with picking up ammo in houses instead of from bodies; not unique (must have been done countless times).
I like the Witches, but thats not worth buying a game for, is it?

This is by far the most ignorant statement. I dont even want to take it apart. Know this, everyone who has said what you just said, and has ACTUALLY started playing shooters (not just talked about them), has seen the error of their limited point of view.
Anyone can press a button... Jesus Christ.
What do you think youre doing in RE?
I said that I havent played MANY shooters. I know what they are like and how this one is, as Ive finished it from start to finish. Its just pure crap, where the enemies are zombie-esque instead of army-men. The people who cant see this are the deluded, ignorant ones.

Indeed. Just as the zombies from all RE titles are just like unarmed army men? Or pretty much every enemy from every other game is just like an armyman?
I know your kind, the hate for the FPS genre comes from ignorance and lack of game-time. ;)

totally different genres , but i wish if L4D took few things from RE such as story line , cut scenes , variety of monsters , good and bad live character and so on ..
i found a mod that make the game looks a little like RE Racoon city , where the police cars have the RPD insignia , RPD zombies , Zoey looks like Claire and Bill wears UBCS uniform , umbrella logos every where ...
any how ...
by the way , you can play in 3rd person view
I know your kind, the hate for the FPS genre comes from ignorance and lack of game-time.
or maybe he just dont like it , it is a matter of personal taste , i met many who does not like RE games , or racing or air combat games , some does not like video games at all , go easy on him ...

The hate for FPS games doesnt come from lack of gameplay; the lack of much gameplay comes from the hate of FPS games.
They just dont depend on much thought and are only good for when you want to waste a bit of time. I mean, Red Steel was also ok, but thats because it was trying a new direction in the genre. Even that didnt keep me interested up until the end, though, showing that I just dont have the interest for FPSes. As Cewolf said, maybe if they had better stories and more involving characters, then I may be willing to forgive FPS developers for the drivel that they have made.

A matter of personal taste is never under question, its the arguments to support ones opinion that are.
Youre asking L4D to have a story, or a storyline when youre completely forgetting that its a multiplayer cooperative shooter, story being irrelevant. Youre then claiming that FPS games done need much thought, which is just completely not true. I could list a dozen of FPS games that require analytical approach in order to progress, but youre just going to ignore it because deep down the hate you have for the genre will never listen to any reason.
Im fine with that because like I said, I know your kind. Someday youll come across an FPS you will like and then your view will change drastically. Why do I feel that way? Because Ive seen firsthand. Been there, done that.
Like I said- its all ignorance.

Thatll never happen. You dont know how stubborn I can be ;) Theres always a need for a story in a game, rather than Must kill enemy or he kill us. Im not talking RPG depth of story, just FF7: Dirge of Cerberus depth. It cant be that hard for them to think one up, or for the story-haters to press start and skip the story. As for L4D, a good game should have a great single-player with optional multiplayer, not the other way around. I understand that its a multiplayer-based game, but the lone player should still have a fun time. The trailers were all great and showed promise of a great story, but only disappointment was found there.
Its really not ignorance, just that Ive played previous FPSes and some current ones, and they arent any good compared to other genres. FPSs are normally very similar to each other (just look at all the war shooters there are out there). There are the unique ones, but they normally only have the unique-value for a while and then become tedious.

Portal and Half Life disagree.

thier is a story sort off.
City infected you run like hell to escape with some shooting on the way which makes the story as you play.
But with this game a stroy is NOT needed, it pure unadulterated fun reguardles.
every game is different weopans and super infected are never in the same place twice meaning each time you play it you never know when a super infected is going to turn up.
I guess I can see why people like this. However, a city full of zombies because of a plague takes no thought at all. A 5 year old could have thought that up. I also find that every game needs a story. It shows that the script and story writers have actually done a bit of work. We, as gamers, can expect that for œ30-40. I just dont play a game unless theres an in-game reason to play it. Not just: run and shoot.
As for Portal: Id consider that as more of a puzzle game, from what Ive seen on Youtube.
Anyway, Im gonna stop here, as I cant really be bothered anymore. That was before Christmas, and I feel happier now :) Less arguing in me at the moment.
it is his personal taste after all
for greenyxi , it is all about the story , for me the story is very important , but i can enjoy a game without good story ...
i dont agree with Spike 74 that there is a story with L4D (IMO) a city infested with zombies is the general theme , when i say a story i mean a story that builds up within the progress of the game
example RE1
bizarre murder cases -> Bravo Team missing -> alpha team investigate -> wild dog attack -> one member is missing -> strange creatures -> wesker is missing
-> barry acting wired -> secret labs -> bio experiments ->accidents in the labs -> there is a traitor -> you think it is barry -> no it is wesker
metal gear is a very good example for very good story
there is the game fun and the game play fun
metal gear and RE are games where the game fun and the game play fun are there , you play them and your friends watching and having fun , on the other hand metal slug is a game with tons of game play fun , but if your friends are watching they will be like come on dude ...it is our turn
games like CSI ( and crime solving games) are all about the Game fun ...there is no game play fun at all , you just click and point , these are games that the player and the watcher have the same amount of fun
which one you like , thats your taste , me and greenyxi story is very important , some of my friends cant play a game with a story line , they want a fast game to play, 30 min , good night
L4D is a very fun to play game ...not to watch ,
but i dont agree that is is an average shooter , it is not like any other fps (IMO) you cant play this game without the cover of your team mates , you will not last 3 min without your team mates , no matter how much your health is , you will die if attacked by a hunter or smoker or a witch it your team mates did not help you , you cant stand up with out the help of your friends , you cant run .... every thing is way faster than you , not to mention that you are way outnumbered if you get surrounded by 5 zombies your a done for it , you cant escape , and within 2 seconds the 5 zombies will become 68
lots of fun to play .... i wish if there is a story ...

Whilst I accept that Greenyxi has his own opinions and all that, I have to say that with Valve...I cant see Left4Dead having no storyline.
On the outside, in the appaerance, it probably has a very limited storyline.
But Valve put ALOT of effort into their games, even if the players never really see it.
Portal has a HUGE universe behind it, but barely any of it has been touched upon in the actual game. Same goes for the Half Life Universe.
Also, Id still class Portal as an FPS.

There is a story behind Left 4 dead, you just need to ignore the survivors escaping at the end of each campaign.
The four survivors are trying to escape > the somehow make it to the rooftop > helicopter flies past telling everyone to get to the hospital > survivors fight their way there only to find it overrun > thanks to the safe rooms they learn of other survivors and off other extraction points > they head to the next safe zone > again they find it overrun the story finally ends when they are picked up at the farm house.
Not to mention the little stories you learn about via the safe rooms
Now its not as complicated as RE but there still is a story.
