This was the last time the Devil May Cry movie rights were mentioned. Basically, 3 years ago and I've yet to hear anything official since.

Yes, I know.

But it's different...

Meh, the story has seldom been the highlight of a DMC game, even if the movie was based on one of the games, it probably never will portray the style and charm DMC has, just thinking about Dante's one-liners utilised in a serious context makes me cringe.

Games with a more story-driven plot suffer the least, I thought Silent Hill had a brilliant film adaptation, bar a few kinks.

DMC is indeed not film material.

PS. The anime is terrible...

The anime, if seen as something unrelated, is a nice bite-sized anime with good action sequences and quite a bit of "badass-ness".

If compared to the games, meh. Oh wait, it's better than DMC2 XD

Still, a movie adaptation, if masterfully done, would be something worth seeing. But we've all seen what game-movies turn out to be... Street Fighter immediately comes to mind.

Agreed. There's no denying that most films based on games are not by any means the most sophisticated and clever movies in the world. I think attempting to translate what defines DMC as a game into a full live action film, would almost certainly end up as a rather long cringe worthy action cliché.

But as Batman Dark Knight proves, ultimately it's up to the writers to pull it off.

Resident Evil: Degeneration was absolutely brilliant and Zombrex: Dead Rising Sun looks like it's gonna be really awesome. Perhaps it would be better if Capcom made a Devil May Cry film internally. Then again, I doubt Capcom have all the resources they would like ideally.

Yeah, but both of those are franchises based heavily on story, DMC has rarely had a good plot as a highlight, making for a here-today-gone-tomorrow action movie which can't bring anything new to the table, and if it could, why would anyone bother wrapping it around a plot when an original movie can be made?

DMC is best enjoyed for its flashy interaction and its cheesey humour that would look out of touch in the very media it's mocking.

It seems unusual to say that Resident Evil is a series based heavily on story because while I don't disagree with you, Mikami-san has said that there was originally going to be no story. :p

I suppose Capcom ought to be trying to make a Devil May Cry game which can top the original before a film is released.

Just because games have no "SSS" story, doesn't means it's impossible to write a good one. Not a plot like Matrix, intricate and complex... something like Blade, full of action and a base story to bring Dante to the final fight.
