View Full Version : Anyone played Dark Void yet?
Me and my friend were playing the PSN demo yesterday, and it was quite good actually.
I still don't know much about the story, but it's like the rocketeer, crossed with ace combat crossed with a FPS.
Quite a good laugh!

I tried playing it at the xmas do, but i didn't understand what I was meant to be doing (i'd had a fair few free beers by that point). I'll try the demo this weekend :)
Well I've checked out a few reviews tonight online about Dark Void and most of them don't seem to like it that much, giving it 5, 6, 7, 8.6 outta 10. 58%. 62%.
They say it was to short and stuff like that, used horrible words like disappointing, but ODST was short and I had massive fun and great battles in it.
I think DV will be the same kinda game (Fun to play that is).
The reviews won't put me off buying it though, I know a good game when I see one ;) I'm up for sum 360 degree Jet-pack gun totting action.

ODST has multiplayer and is part of an established and well-loved franchise. Easy to get in to.
Dark Void on the other hand, is a new IP developed by Airtight Games that lacks multiplayer and, aside from the flying portions, is rather generic by current standards. I've played enough of the game to get a good idea of what it is and to a degree, I can see where the reviews are coming from.
However, this won't put me off from buying the game as it's still enjoyable. Not having multiplayer doesn't make much of a difference to me.
I'm just not that surprised that it looks to be going the way of Bionic Commando (again, another game I enjoyed with a solid and enjoyable multiplayer feature). I just hope that this will start to curb the outsourcing of game development (Dead Rising 2 looks fantastic though).
apparently some Tesco stores already have it on the shelves.
I am on going on what my friend has said so I can't conform this.
I will pick it up but with the Mrs Birthday today I have to hold a week or two

That would be great if you can check for the rest of us, Spike. Obviously not all Tesco stores will but the possibility is better than none.
I am of into town shortly and will check at my Tesco's.
Just talked to him a few minutes and he said it was the big store in Sheffield he picked his up from.
How much is it @ Tescos?????
My Tesco does have it, They only had 1 copy left shame I am skint :(

Thanx dude! I get sum money tomorrow I'll check out my local Tescos. Nice Price 4 a new game.

You are right as soon as I had finished ODST I did break out Halo 3.
When I was trawling through the reviews last night I did come across an interview and Capcom did say they were gonna curb the outsourcing.
"Kotaku (http://kotaku.com/5435922/capcom-still-burning-over-bionic-commando-failure) coaxed a bitter response from Capcom regarding future collaborations with western developers in an interview done at the tail-end of last year.
President Haruhiro Tsujimoto admitted that Capcom would not outsource the development of new games to studios outside of Japan moving forward following a string of underwhelming releases.
"Our experience with Bionic Commando has demonstrated the difficulty of outsourcing the development of new title to overseas companies."
Tsujimoto continued by affirming plans to contract foreign developers for work on existing titles, ports, and smaller games such as Dark Void Zero.
This strategy is strikingly different from other prominent Japanese publishers such as Square Enix that have not only embraced American and European development studios, but have outright expanded with western development satellites."
although last night I found this quote on a gaming site when I did a quick search tonight to re-find it, guess which site had it and was the first to come up. Bloody "Playboy" LOL

I'm not gonna let bad reviews put me off, I am gonna buy the game :)
seriously ppl 5,5 hours to finish it... ffs. cant say that i didnt have fun but only 5-6 hours of game? weapons not that good, jet pack really cool but only if u learn to use it.
no major bugs that annoyed my gameplay and generally a fun game. but really short. i mean if i where to play it again without watchin cinematics and killing my self every now and the it would last about 4 hours.
hope the sequel is longer and better

Just finished.
+ Great combination of flying and on-foot action.
+ Soundtrack is absolutely amazing
+ Jetpack in particular is pretty nifty for escaping tough situations on foot
+ Aerial manouevre system is pretty nice for avoiding attacks
+ Vertical cover system surprised me as being quite awesome. Gravity really does make things cooler. =P
+ Story uses a few Hollywood cliches but is definitely well thought out. Room for a sequel
+ Just the right length
- A severe lack of diversty in gameplay. On-foot options usually involve finding a console, smashing it, and escaping. Aerial combat is basically what you'd expect in Crimson Skies
- Only about two proper boss battles, with the only "real" boss being the final boss
- Very bland and lifeless art style
- Nolan North really ruins this, he sounds EXACTLY like Drake. Does little to differentiate the game itself
- A horrible escort mission, where you're escorting a BIG TARGET with HEAPS OF ENEMIES
All in all, I think there is a lot of potential in this to become a viable franchise for Capcom. I think they planned that originally though I cannot see this going anywhere based on sales. There's HEAPS of potential in some genuinely awesome aerial battles but it's unfortunate that they've falled short of the mark.
Still, I'm not writing this off completely. I'd probably give it 6.5/10, if only because I was a ittle frustrated at the end how the game was artificially lengthened by long scenarios without checkpoints. If not it'd probably be 7/10.
And I understand that it was a bit hard to include it, but Dark Void would've been AWESOME with Multiplayer. It saddens me there wasn't anything. =(
