View Full Version : Another PC RE5 Issue...
The cutscenes are blacked out! The image on the screen is black almost every time there's a cutscene, but I can still see the "interact" stuff which pops up in certain scenes (when it tells you which buttons you need to press in order to avoid something or do something during the cutscene).
Anybody got a clue why this is happening?
I'm running it on Win7 64Bit with Intel Q9450 cpu and Radeon HD 5870 gfx (and catalyst 9.12 drivers). My motherboard is Asus Maximus Formula II.
Update driver....
OK, open your Catalys Control Center in advanced mode.
3D menu>AI>Disable catalyst AI
It's strange, that should be resolved in 9.10 version...
Awesome, man! That worked like a charm. :)
I just got my first ever ATI card a couple days ago, so I'm all new to this stuff with the catalyst drivers and everything. Should I reenable that AI thing for other games btw? Is it an important performance feature or something?
I suggest you to enable it, should improve per-game performance. Not big improvements, but it's better than nothing.
my solution to every PC game... .
Even if you dont have the money to buy yourself a a High End PC... .
Please Please; take an Intel Processor and an Nvidia (at least Mid Range) Graphical Card... .
because on an AMD processor you must install always the AMD GAME optimizer software and ATI has always problems with the Catalyst Software... .
Remember, AMD and ATI is from the same company and Intel and Nvidia belongs togheter (but please no Intel GMA things :D)
and something else:
the fastest processor on the planet is Intel i7 with 4 cores and HT thus 8 logical processors recognized by Windows 7.
and NVIDIA the way it is meant to be played.
Did I help enough?
and uses also the official Nvidia Systemtools Windows Software to safely overclock your NVidia Card.
and uses also the Intel Desktop Official overclock software if you have a i7 processor also safely from the intel website and that is also official software.

Let me just start off with: OMG, fanboy! What does that have to do with anything? And no that obviously doesn't help at all!
First of all, I've been running Nvidia cards since TNT! I know Nvidia inside and out, and they've had just as many driver issues as ATI ever had. And as of right now, ATI is the king! They currently have the best single-GPU graphics card in the world, and that's a fact!
Secondly, Nvidia is a bunch of greedy fools! A couple years ago, they were fighting with Intel because Nvidia thought they could corner the market by only offering SLI with their own motherboard chipsets. They failed so miserably that -in the end- they decided to shut down their entire motherboard chipset production!
So, Nvidia + Intel = true love? I don't think so. Infact, my other (old) computer is a AMD Athlon64 X2 Dual Core CPU with 2x Geforce 8800GTS 512's in SLI config (and even a nForce motherboard). That's right, I mixed Nvidia and AMD... and I mixed Intel and ATI! Oh dear lord! Shocks!
When I upgraded my computer last time, I couldn't get a good motherboard with SLI support (because of all that mess with Intel and Nvidia). My motherboard (Intel P45 chipset) doesn't support SLI, but it does support ATI's CrossFireX. That's just one more reason for me to buy ATI this time. Nvidia has finally given intel the right to add SLI with their chipsets again, with the Core i7/i5 supporting chipsets. But it's too little too late.
Furthermore, I would consider an Intel Core2 Quad Q9450 2.66Ghz (45nm) CPU paired with a ATI Radeon HD 5870 (40nm) graphics card to be a "high end pc". But that's only because of my awesome ATI graphics card. I can run anything in FullHD resolution (1920x1080p) with great details. I run RE5 at the same resolution, with all graphics maxed out (even 8xAA) and I have a steady 60.0 FPS 99.9% of the time. What more could a man want? (retorical question) I don't need a Core i7 CPU at this point. :D
As for AMD's "game optimizer", it's actually called "Dual Core Optimizer" and -as far as I know- it's something you only need for Windows XP! And I'm pretty sure even Windows Update installs that for you if you need it. Using this as an excuse for dragging AMD through the mud is like dragging Intel through the mud because their CPU's also need a driver in order to work. You're being ridiculous, and I'm wasting my time replying to your trolling... but maybe you could learn a thing or two from this. :strange:
As for "NVIDIA, the way it's meant to be played"... please, man. Please. You're just regurgetating Nvidia's propaganda now. I suggest you head over to the Nvidia forums and hang with other fanboys. I'm sure they'll agree with everything you say.
The way it is with Catalyst and RE5 right now, I have to choose between performance and cutscenes. If I disable the AI thing in Catalyst 3D settings, I get to see the cutscenes, but it also impacts performance considerably. With the AI disabled, I have to completely disable AA to make the game run fluently in certain areas. With the AI enabled, I can easily run 8xAA in any area. That's a serious peformance hit.
The release notes that comes with the Catalyst 9.12 drivers lists known issues, and resident evil is the only game on that list (as far as I remember). It says that a performance decrease occurs during cutscenes. I can confirm that this is true, and the performance decrease doesn't go away after the cutscene is done playing. This is with the AI disabled.
I've noticed another thing with the AI enabled. I can still see some cutscenes, while others are all blacked out or only showing a little pink box up in the left corner of the screen.
Is this ATI's fault or CAPCOM? I don't really know. I just hope someone can fix it.

no I am not a fanboy not at all I am a capcom fanboy but a reasonable capcom fanboy. I only want to help for the people who play PC games on their windows systems and I like that they enjoy the best pc gaming experience that is available on the world for pc gaming. I have not a single thing against ATI or AMD because these are also ultimate PC companies.
for example: my girlfriend new pc has indeed an nvidia graphical card but an AMD Athlon X2 processor who does indeed need a game optimizer for example for RE5 because otherwise the framerates drop to 1FPS and you must reverse the HT thing on the X2 processor from AMD. it must be handled by windows and not by the AMD processor. therefore I recommend only Intel processors for games at this point.
why then indeed an AMD processor for my girlfriend? because she had not enough money for an intel processor.
and if you want to choose for a ATI card; who am I to say that you are wrong? you could have plenty of fun with a ATI card! :) why not?
thus the fact: I have my ultimate conviction about everything I believe in in every thing on the world, but if you choose something else for you from the competition concurrention, I have nothing against it and I can only support your decicion.
