we all yearn for a 3rd generation resident evil with the old style gameplay,
the way I see it, its possible if they take elements from the new and old, with resident evil 2 as the example.

list of old

fixed camera angles
typewritters, with no checkpoints what so ever, no retries
item boxes
8 slot inventory
list of new

3rd gen graphics
over the shoulder view only when aiming/shooting/reloading
when the game is cleared only the guns will go back in the box for when you next play that scenario
currency and treasure.
a merchant and weapon upgrade
the same basic map layout with improved and extra areas like in re remake
improved and extra puzzles like in remake
so please reply and point out flaws, so I can attempt to fix them

I'm still up for old & new combined, I like everything there, although the changing from fixed camera angles to over the shoulder may be a problem, but the fixed angles do make the game harder.

How about if you can switch from fixed to over the shoulder like in sum games you can switch from 3rd to 1st person perspectives.

Or specific fixed angle running sequences at certain points in the game, similar to quick time events. I said SIMILAR.

:chin:

How about an unlockable camera view so you can play with fixed angles after you have completed the game or vice versa.

Eh, more interesting to have a new game in those elements instead of doing a remake.

The merchant was never really a good idea anyhow, so I'd drop this one. Besides, in RE2 they had a weapon upgrade system anyhow that could be fleshed out.

Resident Evil 2 wont make it to 3rd gen it's just not going to happen people have been signing peitions for resident evil 1.5 to be released and nothing has happend.I think RE2 will only be re-released on Wii.

3rd Gen? Why do people think the 1st Gen was the playstation 1 era?

We are now on the 7th Gen!

1.5 was not a complete game or ever released but 2 was both so yes their is more chance of to making it than 1.5 ever coming out.

Not saying it will happen but your logic does not work.

I'd be happy enough with Resident Evil 2 being released in its original form. Though 360 degree turn would be nice...
