Resident Evil 5 will be released for both, PS3 and 360. It appears that a demo will only be released for the 360, in Japan, that is. I assume this - at least timed - exclusive feature is worth a considerable amount of money - much like exclusive games can be.

Its hard to call a Demo an exclusive feature. A Demo is a taste, its not really all that jolly when the players treat it as something more. Its a frighteningly growing thing. Youll notice that especially when Betas are being treated as full games.
So, is it worth the money? Not really, at least I dont think it should be.

Its of considerable value, in my opinion. The demo (2 levels, co-op and offline) will allegedly be released on December 5, 2008, the (hyped) game on March 12, 2009.

Are you saying that a Demo [sic!] is worth the minimum of 199 dollars? Plus a number of expenses?
Xbox Lives a lot easier to work with when it comes to stuff like demos.
Not that I disagree with you, Capcom hasnt lived up to their promises. Just look at Monster Hunter 3 and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, theyre both Wii exclusives.

Good question. No, I meant that, in my opinion, it is worth a considerable amount of money for Microsoft. Personally Im not interested in neither RE 5 nor its demo.

I agree.
Thats politics for you, sir. Microsofts pushing for expanding their audience in Japan, which is the only likely reason besides the PS3 development being slower. In any case, dont think its going to affect anyone majorly in any way.

Ah, good call. I was being too busy thinking about it in the wrong way.
Definitely. MS is going for Sonys throat now more than ever and its definitely worth the investment and expenses.
Guys, the announcement was that the platform exclusive era is over, which is far from saying that every single release will be across every single platform. Each title is treated differently, according to a number of factors.

Yeah, I wasnt overly precise either.
Microsoft is doing a pretty good job. I would love to see how much money they used to fund third party games/content in the last couple of months. Buying multiple Japanese games, getting many of them as timed exclusives or merely as well (take Square Enix offers examples for every category) apparently payed off, not to mention securing DLC and reducing the consoles price extremely. Their strategy evidently works particularly well in the United Kingdom and Japan. - On a sidenote, theyve also spent record numbers on TV ads. Ive just seen four 360 spots (advertising multiplatform games) in almost a row - on a single network.

If that message isnt clear enough for you, Capcom restates its commitment to spreading its seeds far and wide in the Outlook for the Future section of the report: all major titles launched during the next fiscal year or thereafter will be developed as multiplatform games.

Multiplatform is not the same thing as every single platform.
I dont think you can claim a games multiplatform when its only coming out on one platform, though.
Could someone enlighten me on if the fiscal year starts on a different date than an actual year does, though?
The fiscal year runs April to March, so this fiscal year will end 31st March 2009

Cant help but think that despite all of their shortcomings, MS have done nothing but right choices during the past 3-4 years. This next gen console battle belongs to economics studies textbooks.

There goes my entire argument, then. =P Forget what I said.

The/a demo will also be released for PS3 in Europe and North America (along with one for the 360, apparently); no date has been announced yet.

Yeah. I dont know how much they have invested, so I cant tell how the bigger picture looks. Its also hard to tell whether or not rushing the hardware was good overall. But, it definately seems they are rather successful with what they have recently been and currently are doing. Sony on the other hand, well the PS3 absolutely is doing alright. I also think it played a significant role in establishing Blu-Ray (and not HD-DVD).

Triple please dont double post.
I think it is quite disppointing news, but Ten is right multiplatform means more than one, so they can leave out consoles if they feel like it.
Triple please dont double post
He didnt, I deleted my post between them yesterday.

Another thing: it seems the Deluxe edition of RE 5 will only be released for 360.

The demo announcement is pretty much because of Microsofts XBox Live certification process, its a lot hassle free than the PSNs.
As for the multiplatform comments - the game is still arriving on both platforms in its entirety, I dont quite see what the problem is.

Yeah, right.

RE 5? - that seems to be the case. However, thats not the point. This thread is about determining what Capcoms multiplatform strategy is and what it allows for.
