Rating the DMC Series

What do you rate each of the DMCs, out of 10 stars? Im just contemplating whether to get into the series or not. Thanks, youll be helping me big time. :)

10/10 all of them apart from DMC2.

You already own DMC3, which is the best in the series imo. After that I would say that the first DMC, while being a step back in terms of graphics is probably better then the latest release in terms of gameplay. Dont expect either to be as challanging as 3 though. Then we come to the much hated on DMC 2, which will resolve any fandom you may have on the DMC series. I sold mine on ages ago.

The best one to me was the first installment. In 2001 the series was fresh, the graphics were fairly froundbreaking given that the PlayStation 2 was a new piece of hardware, the soundtrack was pretty cool (Like the rest of the series, good metal and rock tunes throughout), the whole series was original to a degree. All games were pretty experimental to the PlayStation 2 back then, it brought a darker theme to the platform genre that didnt exist to the common degree it does now. There was a good selection of fire arms but not so much on the devil arms side. It was just a nice, fresh and stylish title. The plot wasnt bad for a dark/gothic style story either.

I purchased Devil May Cry 2 years later and I had played Devil May Cry 3. The game didnt seem to have much of an opening and I never completed the game. I got to a point with demonic tanks and helicopters and generally felt the game had gotten stupid.

Devil May Cry 3 was pretty good, more devil arms, pretty good graphics, good soundtrack, okay plot although it had started to stale itself out. The voice acting to me was much cheesier than that of the first game but you cant have it all. I think half of my problem was the fact that the series went back to childhood roots for Dante. The bosses were pretty good, the game was challenging compared to the first. The reason I rate the first better was simply because it was original, whereas sequels are always improvements which doesnt stick for me when Ive played a series since the original.

Devil May Cry 4 was stylish and introduced a new character who I personally preferred to Dante. He didnt have quite so much the cocky attitude but more of a righteous anger thing going on. The weapons with Nero were in know way variable, you always had the same arms and it was just a case of upgrading. When you switched to Dante later on though, then things got interesting with variety. The plot was kind of empty but I still enjoyed it and it wasnt overkilled like the third game, soundtrack was good. Bosses again were challenging. I think this is the best installment since the first title. Of course since the first game though for every title it is just a case of nothing really knew; just a few added extras chucked in.

Ive decided not to do out of 10 ratings personally because I feel better summarising my opinions in a broken down format.

With all due respect shouldnt scores atleast have some kind of reasoning behind them? A score alone without any information or reason doesnt really give anybody any insight into the reasons for the result.

Tbh, i like DMC alot, but its not a brilliant game. Its fun to finish, only once though. I never finised DMC4.... Its always the same button mashing game, story is not very good, it just looks good and its fun to kill the giant bosses. I liked Chaos Legion more, and i think Bayonetta will be better than DMC.
