View Full Version : Heavy Rain Collectors Edition is HMV only
SCEE’s confirmed to VG247 that the Collector’s Edition of Heavy Rain will be an exclusive to HMV in the UK.
A rep told us: “Yes, it’s an HMV exclusive.”
The retailer listed (http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=280;0;-1;-1;-1&sku=308607) the SKU as such this morning, priced £40.
The CE was announced (http://www.vg247.com/2009/12/21/european-heavy-rain-collector%E2%80%99s-edition-unveiled-dlc-confirmed/) just before Christmas, and is to come in a special ‘rain-effect’ slipcase.
It includes PSN vouchers for DLC Heavy Rain: Chronicle 1 – The Taxidermist, the official soundtrack and a dynamic XMB theme.
HMV’s page also showed a February 26 date for the Quantic thriller. Sony wouldn’t be drawn on release details.
“I can’t comment on the date, I’m afraid,” the spokesperson added.
Yesterday, SCEE told us to expect a date “in the next few weeks”, after the BBFC rated the game (http://www.vg247.com/2010/01/05/heavy-rain-rated-15-by-the-bbfc/) a 15.

Suits me fine. HMV are usually pretty good with most things, but the only thing which saddens me, is the lack of goodies with the supposed "collector's" edition.
Wow, I'll be able to get a slipcase with a rain effect (guess they think we haven't seen rain before?), the first episode of the download content, the soundtrack (might be good, but I'm thinking it'll just be mellowed out stuff), and a xmb theme......how lame lol. It'll probably cost you the same as if you were to buy the game alone, and then pay for the extra dlc afterwards. Heck, you might even save money. Ah well.
We need a DIY origami animal with it, some artwork, maybe a model, and a keyring or something.
I'm more in favour of games having physical goodies, rather than digital packs etc. There's something about the digital part of the industry which just makes me feel hard done by.
Anyway, from what I played of the game at Eurogamer, it's pretty cool. I was majorly impressed with the graphics, and voicework.
Ordered :) must say I'm not a fan of HMV as they've never packed anything I've bought of them safe enough to not get damaged before, and then if things do get hurt they don't do exchanges in store from the website either.
But I shall buy it and hope it comes safely :)

Well they are selling it for £39.99(same price as Play.com for standard). The cheapest I have found the game for at this point in time is with ShopTo for £37.85. So if you consider £2.15 a major saving which can purchase you the DLC and soundtrack-- then order from there.
It seems a little preemptive to call this special edition lame, heh, especially when you think a 'keyring' and a 'do it yourself origami animal' - which you could do now with a scrap of paper - would be a better special edition. Await until you hear the soundtrack or see the full DLC before saying it is not worth the 'extra' cost. :p

Well, usually most PS3 games are available for about £30-35 new, depending on where you buy them from.
A keyring and a DIY origami animal weren't the main parts of my point. The point was, I've seen lots and lots of collector's editions, and this fails in comparison to them all.
Look at GTA4 for example. I got the collectors edition of that, and it gave me the soundtrack, artbook, keyring, safety deposit box, and a carrying bag. That to me is a collectors edition.
When getting a collectors edition, you need things related to the game, and in this case, Origami is the key factor.......hence the DIY origami animal. It'd be official, and not just something you would want to throw together with a piece of scrap paper.
So, yea, it's lame in my opinion. You have your own opinion, and you seem pretty insulted by what I feel about it, but that's up to you man. I can't change that, and I don't want to. Everyone's entitled to have their say. It's just a letdown, that's all.
It's pretty much basic, as far as collector's editions go. :(

Totally agree with you that's it's not the greatest collectors edition (although I am looking forward to the soundtrack loved the nomad soul music and farenheit) but sometimes when you just want and are looking forward to a game so much you buy the collectors edition no matter what :)
But that's probably just me :P

Ah yea, haha. Well, I have my heart set on the God of War 3 ultimate trilogy collection, as the massive amount of goodies that come with it look really satisfying!
Plus, I'm a die hard God of War fan.
Anyways, you saying that makes me think I have a secret love affair for shiny things, as I really do love steelbook editions of games. I don't know why, but there's just something about them, I guess. They feel nice, too.......haha. Smooth, and bumpy where the artwork is literally raised on it for effect. It's so much better than a plastic case. :p

Nice but not a must have. For the UK its good tho, 40 pounds is like any other game price. Importing it would cost me more then the regular shop price here so i wont get it + its only a DLC and soundtrack which i wouldnt listen to ever. But i still like it, fan of Limited Editions, but not under this circumstances ( for not living in the uk ^^ )

I am sure Germany will have it available from at least one retailer.

Wait, what?
I wanted to buy that game when i saw the first video but maybe ill even pre-order it, now that i know some additional info :D

I have no experience through their online store, but if you are within travelling distance of one of their stores then you can pre-order there and they should have it for you on Day of release, if not a day or two before.

Heh, I was not insulted by your opinion. I generally avoid collectors editions as I find they usually consists of naught more than cheap tat. This one seems to offer something that shall at least relate to the work that went into the game, rather than someone paying to be used as a walking billboard.
It is the same price as every other PS3 game - I sincerely want to know where you shop if you are getting your games on release day for £30 new - and as such: a preferable option to the standard edition. I know some people are quite happy to pay through the nose for collector editions(MW2 being one of the most ridiculous, of late) but as this is equally priced: I saw no reason to complain. :thumb:
HMV are typically rather prompt with their deliveries. You shall either obtain it upon release day or within a day or two.

It's actually play.com. :)
It's the only place I really shop, as generally it has the lowest prices. Most games that I've bought from there have cost me £30-35. The only real exceptions with that, are the hyped up titles, which usually stay around £40.
Also, sometimes if you're not worried about getting some games on release....they come up in the sales. I got Borderlands shortly after it first came out for £17.99 on play.com, as it popped up in one of their sales.
It's good to look between Play, Amazon, HMV, Game and Gamestation to get the best deal, though. ;)
Anyway, that's fair enough man. I just have high expectations of collector's editions, as I've seen so many in the past that have been good. It's just this one offers a lot less, that's all.
Either way, enjoy the game! I'm looking forward to it, and also, Aliens Versus Predator is out a week before it, so it's going to be a great year for gaming. :D
Sony blog just put up this image of the collectors edition and what it includes

Wonder if there will be some kind of origami in it, unless it's just there for show. I think it looks alright :)

I might pre-order it at some point, sheerly for the fact that it's at least something extra, in comparison to the standard edition, and it's the same price as the standard edition.
I kinda like the fact it resembles Blade Runner in a way (what with the origami and all, where in Blade Runner, a guy/blade runner kept leaving origami at every murder scene), but I'm really looking forward to it.
It may have full nudity in it, but the creator has said "it's in no way a porno flick. It's something which adults do when they are in love". That's fair enough to me, so nobody can complain really, but they will, naturally. :p

It better have! Nudity makes games better, like god of war :D
Btw i sometimes think i live in a different world than you guys, politicians NEVER say something about videogames, nor anyone else. Complains about violent, nudity or selling games to underage kids is an unknown topic here and i like it :)

I don't, because it means people are seeing it who are too young to be viewing that kind of material.
If I ever become successful, have a nice girlfriend, and eventually have kids, then I plan on sticking by the rules, making sure my kids grow up in a safe environment, and don't experience things like violent movies or games, until they're of the right age.
Basically I firmly believe that if a game like GTA has an 18 rating, then it's there for a reason. People should follow it, but they don't, and as a result, people grow up in bad ways.
It's not just media that does this, but also surroundings, living spaces, the type of people they meet etc. At the end of the day though, it all contributes into making a person what they are.
Games are becoming more and more lifelike as the years go on, and soon I fear that kids will be able to get a hold of fully 3d games with lifelike characters, and this could drag them so far away from reality that they don't know what's real anymore. If they take in all of that information at such a young age, they could spiral out of control in any direction, so yea, that's why I don't agree with people playing games they're too young to play.
If parents allowed their children to play games at the right age, then I have no problem with it.
It's not for me to decide though. Every other person should feel the same, but they don't, so I'd only be looking out for my own family. It's up to the parents as responsible adults to know what's right and wrong. ;)

I know, i was joking :). Its like saying: every game should have a ninja in it, ninjas are cool :D
I know cortez, but i personaly think that kids about 13-14 years old are smart enough to see the difference between reality and fiction and they want to see violence and nudity and even if you dont want to show them any "bad things", they will find their way to it. My mum always said to cover my eyes when someone was naked in a movie when were watching one but heck, i was watching porn when i was at that age and dont anyone say he didnt cause i know hes lying! :D
You know, if i were permitted to play games that are over my age, i would be pissed as hell cause i dont wanna miss any. I know i could eventually play those games i wanted few years later, but the game would look worse for the current generation and it would pretty much ruin the game for me.
I played violent games when i was little and if you think doom is one, you havent seen what violent is. And thus playing them, i do kickboxing half a year, im 17 years old and i never fought with anyone, i can control myself. The age rating is really strict if you ask me, why cant someone who is 16 years old play a game which is for 18+? Like will those 2 years make a difference in the development of a persons character, such a change that someone would go and shoot 20 people in school? I highly doubt that

Those aren't totally not arbitrary; for most people puberty development is still on-going.

Yeah, but the puberty is just the awakening of the true personality of the child, and it ends in 18 years. The older you are the slower are the changes. Im a big defender of the theory that only 30 percent of the character is changed by the enviroment and other 70 percent is genes. I think playing few violent or games with nudity isnt a character chaning experience and i think it doesnt have any impact on the person.
I saw a video about a research of few people who studied how people react while playing video games(online)and they found out that they do not enjoy the fact that the game is violent but the feeling of victory(like killing someone in the game - not the killing part, but the fact that you beat the other person)

Well, a 16 year old is very different from an 18 year old mentally. It might not seem like much of a difference...."2 years, big deal!" kinda thing, but there is a difference there.
16 year old's are people who have just left school.....18 year olds are people who are most likely in college, and as everything is so different, a good amount of people would have matured a lot more by the time they hit this age.
Yea, people seem to be sleeping with each other at the age of 13 and 14 now (I'm dead against it, and haven't done anything, yet I'm gonna be 23 next year), but just because what seems like a large amount of people are doing things like that before they're meant to, it doesn't mean people should assume that because some people are like that, then everyone is.
Some people need to be the example's of what's right, otherwise there's no hope in the world.
To me, Doom isn't that much of a threat. This is due to how old and unreal it looks. Games have come a long way since then, and as such, look more and more lifelike. The games which I was referring to were the likes of Manhunt (terrible game, and unnecessarily violent), GTA (granted they're cartoony, but the latest one has started to look more realistic), and God of War 3.
There are many more games out there, but those are the examples I chose. They're all 18 for a reason, and yea people below that age won't agree with having to wait until they're the right age to play it, but I had to wait, and I'm sure many other people did.
The first time I tried to buy 18 rated films was when I was 16 and without any ID. I got those films, and it was the Alien Quadrilogy for £19.99, and it was lucky that they let me have it. With everything else, I've had to wait until I was of the right age to watch it, and play it. That's as it should be, I feel.
Things are different now, compared to what they used to be. Everything is rapidly advancing, and not everything is safe for the younger audiences.
I grew up on sonic and mario, yet I'm still a bit mental. :p
Anyway, it's just something to think about. Some people get effected, whilst other people don't at all. I just don't think removing or ignoring age ratings is worth the risk.
Also, I thought you were 16 or 17 with what you were saying, so I hit it on the head! I think I'm psychic. :p
16 year old's are people who have just left school.....18 year olds are people who are most likely in college, and as everything is so different, a good amount of people would have matured a lot more by the time they hit this age.
Wait, WHAT?! 16 just LEFT THE SCHOOL? You have to be joking, we leave elementary school at the age of 15 and high school at the age of 19(i will be 20).
I really dont know, we ussualy make fun of americans and others who make such a big deal about violent/nude/bad language games/movies/music, our nation just doesnt understand whats the big deal about it :D.
Btw, the movie hostel, which represents slovakia as a black hole of europe with psychopathic people wasnt even banned here, this is how much we dont care :D... like it made a fuzz but nothing special.
Btw, if you rip off heloises head in god of war III and you saw that as a 16 year old, whatwill happen? Will you have tendency to rip someones head off, or will you have bad dreams(like i dont have any dreams :D)? Or have some kind of a trauma? Men in dark ages were used to fight in an army when they were like 16 years old, i think kids of today can handle some pixel brutalism :)

Ah ok, well I was using England as an example. We start school at the age of 4, finish high school at the age of 16, and then go onto college or whatever you want to do with your life.
Hmm, there was a guy who tried to abolish gaming completely, but I think lost his job, due to being so mentally obsessed over trying to get rid of it. Ah, that's it! His name was Jack Thompson, I think.
Anyway, force doesn't really work. I think you just have to leave it down to common sense.
Also, was Hostel banned anywhere? I just thought it was trying to be another saw......horrible and disgusting, lol.
Both series I find pointless, yet other people love them. It just depends on your own tastes, I guess. Still though, Saw only needed the first film, as that one was actually good. Now there are like 5 or 6, so it's just been dragged along for too long.
Edit: For your last paragraph, that's just it though. People then had to grow up fast, due to witnessing such violent acts, so it was completely different and non comparable.
Like I said though, it might not effect you, or it could go out and make you want to reinact it. It depends, as some people can be perfectly fine, and then go out and do something like that, just because they saw it in a film or game. Other people might have bad dreams, yea. It can effect people in unpredictable ways.
It may be a joke to you, but I don't think allowing kids to see extremely violent scenes is a wise thing to do.
Didnt want to make a new thread, i think this is good enough.
I find some new info(video) on heavy rain, its quite disturbing and laughable :D

As much as other guys, seeing woman in games/movies/anywhere else :D is a nice and it can never hurt but the waggling part with the controller in the video after the shower or the toilet part were really weird and unnecessary(well, not unnecessary isnt the right word with the waggling part but its silly and it makes me laugh :D)

trust you lol.
I honestly don't think that any videogames would have any impact on any sane person that is older than, say, 10. Before that...younger children can be a bit strange and do stupid things. After that, you learn to think of consequences and that murdering someone is wrong ;).
Seriously, if you see a murder and then have the urge to re-enact it in real-life, you are as retarded as they come...
