View Full Version : MAG Beta
Anyone downloading it? I haven't made it in just yet as it's taking forever to update~
I downloaded it but thats about it, i will install it later.
If a game has no singleplayer, its a big - for me.
But i love team fortress 2 so im curious how good this will be, also i havent played any fps online on my ps3 except killzone 2 which sucked(only in multi, i love single). We will see...

I downloaded it, thanks for the heads up by the way!
It's installed and everything now its just doing some huge HUGE update which is killing my patience....
i down loaded it ages ago when i got accepted into the closed BETA.
The only things that put me of was to many people played like John Rambo and the lack of communication in the game which is vital to this type of game so i stopped playing it.
With more people in it now the communication should be better.
I had access to the closed beta, since I'm beta tester for SCEE. it's a decent game, I haven't noticed the lag i was expecting for 128 players in a game, but still I need to play it with my clan mates to see how good it is with real tactics.

Thats my dream job :O
How did you managed to get it?
i got accepted for the old closed beta aswell...
but i downloaded the new one (i deleted the old one after it had ended) and it is quite good, aiming is a little tricky though.

I was in the closed Beta (SCEA) and found it to be a decent online shooter. Nothing major but the game suffers from balance issues (SVER seems to be the most popular choice of faction, as well as - apparently - having the better stance compared to the other factions). Oh, and let's not forget the horrendous amount of updating you had to do before you get in to the game.
Not a game I plan to buy.

i noticed that aswell, there was always at least 10X the amount of people on S.V.E.R. than on any other team.

They opened vacancies in July 2008, and I applied on their website. Best thing for you to do is register at the PlayStation European forums and wait for more openings. If you want to, I can inform you when they start recruiting again ;) Not sure when it or if it will happen
Well, I played the US Beta and did not feel for it, the whole game feels like an en masse clone of MW2, highly unpolished due to the sheer volume of players taking everything else, I know it's only a Beta and the unfinished product, but you know it's hardly going to get any better.
And the large scale presents its own problems, I was team killed by another player who ran off in to the distance, how could I nominate to kick him or exact my own revenge when I didn't know who or where he was? And of course, being paired with idiots who are operating as individuals, not as a team, I've had countless medics wander past my wounded cries in favour of getting shot by what shot me.
Good as an experiment, yes, but a full retail version? not interested...

I would be grateful :)
I played MAG like 5 hours so far but i dont like something about it... maybe im too used to mouse and keyboard, maybe i played it some time ago(battlefield, mw). When servers go down you´re screwed, i really dont know about this game, i need a singleplayer campaign to buy a game!
I've only played three matches, but to me it was actually a pretty solid first impression!
I agree with some of the statements here that the current players are a bit all over the place, and there's little tactics behind anything. I'm sure this will change over time as the community grows larger and smarter.
My biggest plus for this game is the controls. They are really tight and easy to pick up on. I'm also fond of the ranking and the leveling up system as I can see myself easily getting sucked into that, and it's generally a great way to keep people hooked. [Plus, it only make sense with the game design/mechanic in mind]
The immediate thing that popped out for me that as a bit of a downer, was the fact that I found myself trying to figure out what I was aiming at a lot of the time. It may just have been that specific level, but to me it almost feels like one of the initial 360 games that was launched, where the developers went normal and specular map crazy; all bumps and creases are near to black and everything just look kind of wet. I wasn't too impressed by the visual effects the game has going either, but I'll stop here before people will push me back under the bridge for trolling.
At the end of the day, I'm definitively tempted to buy the game, but I think I'll wait a little bit to see how successful it'll be and how the support is. [Thinking back to Fat Princes~] I suspect this game's fanbase might end up as a pretty niche demographic, much like the Warhawk and Metal Gear Online audience has become. I really hope it does well and that whatever issues people have with it will be tweaked and adjusted over time. At least I thought the Beta was pretty stable!

kay so after a super lenghty install/download/re-install thing that it all went through, I finally got to create my character then I got disconnected from the server, re connected and played about 7 or 8 minutes of a game before being cut off again, then it wouldn't reconnect at all so I went to return to dashboard and my PS3 froze......not really the best start (i pulled the plug out in the end) but Im hoping to get on it at least once more to get a proper feel for the game.
The short time I did get was pretty good, half the people didnt have a clue what they were doing and just started wild firing the second the game loaded (seemed a bit odd to me) and the other half all ran off in a group and were never seen again
(i pulled the plug out in the end)
What did you do?!
I wouldnt recommend it, if you wanna restart a frozen ps3, hold the launch button few seconds, not that on the controller but that on the console, it should work, it worked always for me.
About the connection issues, its only a beta so its normal i suppose.

yeah I had connection issues when I first started using Home but thats fine now. I got bored of looking at a blank screen so I pressed the switch on the back of the console. Havnt bothered turning it back on since, I don't really like my PS3, mainly use it for dvds and bluray. I do my gaming on xbox
I downloaded it. The update is insanly huge but the beta was worth for me. Im really enjoying it!
