Is anybody else here into Star Trek?
I wouldnt really call myself a Trekkie, because Im not obssessed with it, but I will happily sit down and watch next Gen, Voyager, DS9, Enterprise or the original series. Ill even watch the films, and play some of the games...and...discuss with friends who would win if The Federation were to fight The Empire (Star Wars).
Either way, I like Star Trek, and have just seen the latest trailer for the next Star Trek film (imaginitively called Star Trek) by J.J.Abrams (Cloverfield, Lost, etc):

I think the film looks awesome in so many ways...

Im happy to see somebody reply to this thread...I was starting to think that I was the biggest geek here. Now I know that Im one of the biggest geeks ^_^
The new trailer is filled with awesome though...But I do have to wonder if there will be another film? I think itd be a good way to conitue the Universe without having to fork out for books or comics.
Plus, it could perfectly set it up for the original series, so that it fits together perfectly.
Oh, and for anybody who cares, I think The Federation would win.

Agreed. I think the empires power is in its ground forces. And its fleet seems rather small. Just downloading a suitable way of watching the trailer now.

Id say it all relies on the fact that The Federation has access to cloaking technology :P
That and the shields and armour they are able to equip their ships with is immensely powerful, oh, and the access to nano-technology and holographic intelligence.
The Federation are, essentially, just fully equipped to take out The Imperial fleet within a matter of days, mostly by using stealth and the like. Get a few Holographic entities to storm a ship (portable Holographic Emiters [sp?]) with weapons, and they could just enter the importasnt areas and take out the ship.
Oh, and I guess the fact that The Federation are able to Teleport is also quite a useful thing :P
Ive put way too much thought into this.

Yes you have. Just finished watching the trailer. Looks amazing. Might finally give me what I want, EPIC starship battles.

Unless the trailer has just shown us all of the epic starship battles...but Im thinking it hasnt.
And I really wish they would make a film of The federation versus The Empire...itd be more Epic than this trailer...

I wouldnt call myself a Trekkie, but I did follow Voyager and Enterprise when they aired here in Holland. So I guess that makes me kind of like you, TZM. =P
Anyway, loved the trailer as well. I always thought Star Trek with some Hollywood action scenes would work, and this more or less shows I was right on that aspect. And props to them for not changing Spocks look at all.

Im really liking the fact that this film is just a modernised version of the original series...theyve got the look behind all of it, they just have better effects, etc.
I am a Star Trek fan, Not seen much from the new movie but what i have seen looks very good.
The good news to come out of the camp is that JJ Abrams has stated that he prefers Star Wars over Star Trek, I think this will work in making the film more enjoyable to both non- trekkie fans and the general movie going public.
