Computer/Video Games are becoming the favorite past time in the UK, beating Music and Film.
Which is quite interesting.
Interesting article.
Id say that the availablity of the internet has done wonders for the gaming industry, not only can people play games together regardless of where they are in the world, but they can also spread word of both good and bad games, which is both a blessing and a curse when you consider fanboyism.
And that games are far family friendly than they once where, movies and music have restricted ages and audiences, videogames once grew only with the people who played them, children who played Mega Drive and SNES grew up during the PSone generation, video-games where then targeted at the teenage male steroetype, with the amount of action games and sex appeal of certain characters (Ms.Croft), It only really began to change with the refinements of technology that appealed to everyone eager to stay with the times and the games industry recognised that everyone had a place.
Not all that suprising since they announced the videogame industry was bigger then the movie industry not too long ago. All three sufer from major piracey problems, so I wonder where that fits in to the equation.
Good news for the gaming industry.
I have to agree that part of this is due to the fact that games are now trying to reach the entire family, e.g, Buzz, Little Big Planet, meaning that both parents and children can play side-by-side...
Hopefully more money for gaming industries = better games for us :D
