View Full Version : Holy unexpected sequel, Batman! (thread contains Arkham Asylum Spoilers)

This is obviously good news if you loved Arkham Asylum like myself, TZM and a few other peeps on this forum.
The original was nearly flawless. A highly atmospheric story with true to form characters, as well as a genius game mechanic that put dedicated fighting games to shame and encouraged deep exploration. Not to mention the continuation of free DLC, quality stuff I would happily pay for.
The beautiful part was that no one was expecting a little barely known british studio to pump out such a quality game, anyone whose played Batman games in the past knows how terrible they where and I sure hope Rocksteady don't pass the reigns.
Hopefully they'll take aboard some of the critisms of the original and fix the boss fights, tweak certain systems, et cetera. Even if it's more of the same, it'll still be good. :D

That Joker creeps me out every time I see him but nice to see he lost the extra muscle. :D
It will be interesting to see where this one is set as surely we have already spent too much time at the Asylum.
The Rocksteady guys did not come to crash our CAPCOM Christmas party(probably as they don't work on weekends).

Oh yes! This is some seriously good news.
From the looks of it, it will be based outside Arkham, which is good but I do hope they don't try and make a massive play area and ruin the whole vibe.
Great news as i loved the first one.:D
I wonder if this one will be set in Gotham city?, hope so.

Hahah, I wonder who that could be, with two different hands...

I never played the first game, tell a lie I played the demo. I didn't like the slow motion punch on every single third hit and that put me off it a bit. Im gonna borrow it from my buddy Ben seeing as I got him the game and his xbox in the first place and have since got him MW2 and lent him GTA4 and some other classics....Im too nice to him, Im gonna have to punch him a couple times making sure I go extra slow on the third one :D
I must say Mark Hamill does an awesome job with Jokers voice

That has to be Harvey "Two Face" in the poster. :D
That is a really generous of you to give xbox 360 with games to your friends!

The first link isn't working for me at all. Maybe it's broken?
Anyways, a teaser for a sequel already? That's mental!
Arkham Asylum was an exceedingly good game, and if Mr.Kipling made games, then Batman: Arkham Asylum must be his most precious creation. :p
Nah, this is really really good news. I loved the first game, and to be honest, most Marvel games suck harder than a Dyson vacuum cleaner. This on the other hand, was pretty much a triple A title.
With Two Face in the next game, it's going to be really really interesting. So good though! They need Aaron Eckhart to voice him though. Harvey Dent was so rad in the Dark Knight. :D
Lots of suprises at the end of this year. Dead Space 2 anounced, Yakuza 3 for UK/USA and now a sequal to Batman. This is indeed xmas.

By the way, I now love and hate you for this information. I love batman, I love Arkham Asylum and I can't wait for this. But now I have to live with the fact that every game I play is not this!

*GLEE*
I would do a dance if there were dance good enough to celebrate this game.
While the trailer makes me really excited, I'm scared that it won't quite be as good as the original...

I just hope that the developers don't let it go to their heads.
If they put in the same amount of effort as they did with the first one, then it'll be good. It won't be an improvement, but it'll be good.
If they put in more effort, then it'll be an improvement AND it'll be good.
But this is assuming the praise doesn't go to their heads.

Huh, Warner Brothers have it covered this time, I sure hope this doesn't mean any significant changes for the worse.

If Warner Bros are smart, they'll make sure Rocksteady have majority creative control.
Hopefully, Warner are smart...
I wonder if the Penguin will feature in this one?.
Or Catwoman?.
I'm getting excited just thinking about it.:D

I read that shortly after finding out, we already know that the Joker and Harley are back. But it'll be interesting to see who else crops up. I hope that Killer Croc/Bane/Scarecrow(preferably Scarecrow) show up with their venom.
Oh, and I hope they don't repeat the same few bits like they did in the first which slowly started to get under my skin. More bits like the last Scarecrow segment would be awesome.

Thanks for that link, elite. ;)
It was a pretty good and interesting read. There's still tonnes to go on within the Batman universe though, so it'll be interesting to see how the next game pans out.
I still have faith that it'll be good......maybe not as much as the first game, but even still. The gameplay elements are good to go, and as Rocksteady did such an awesome job with the first game, I have no doubts in my mind that they'll pull through with the second game, no problems. :D

That list seems like it'll be fairly accurate.
The Iceberg Lounge is clearly shown in the trailer, meaning Penguin will make some sort of appearance, Harvey Dent/Two Face is shown on the website, and The Joker is a given.
On top of the ending scene of AA1, at least 1 of the 3 will make an appearance at some point (if not all 3 of them).
So they'd only need to get Ra's Al Ghul, The Riddler, and Catwoman in to make that list 100%
The Riddler, I have to say, is a given...in some form, because his part in AA1 is often commented to be one of the best parts, and as the article points out...he'll have a major grudge against Batman now.
Given that a's Al Ghul dissappeared at the end of AA1 shows that the developers are at least thinking about using him at some point in the future.
So...Catwoman it is then...how do they get her in it?

Wasn't Ra's Al Ghul dead in AA? I am sure I remember
*SPOILER*
He was in the chillers as one of Riddlers challenges?

Ra's Al Ghul is Immortal in most of the comics, and when he isn't, his team of awesome Ninja's have ways to re-awaken the dead.
Interestingly, the book in the Arkham Asylum collectors edition mentions:
"Mr.Freeze - ESCAPED!"
"Clayface - Strong escape risk"
"Harley Quinn - Escape risk?"
"The Great White Shark - Some of the guards are convinced he is running criminal rackets outside of the asylum"
If they decide to use this or not remains to be seen, but it's safe to say that Harley probably got the Joker out (but then again, Joker can "leave at any time").
I read up on Two-Face and Penguin, neither profile shows anything significant, but it's obvious Two-Face well make an appearance, which could relate to the bank robbery at the end of AA, quite possibly triggering the events of the next game.
That Games Radar list is pretty interesting to read, it looks acurate enough, but I suppose it's the combination of characters that would ultimately determine certain things and outcomes.
"Mr.Freeze, Clayface, Harley Quinn, The Great White Shark"

Well we know Harley's out, Mr Freeze could be interesting, I couldn't imagine Clayface being a major villain in a game(although he was in Rise of Sin Tzu :P), but I could just see him escaping after disguising as Sharp, I'd quite like to see Great White Shark as a main antagonist.
I think Penguin and Two-Face could work well as main villains, but I can't imagine Joker taking the back seat.

"Mr.Freeze - ESCAPED!"
"Clayface - Strong escape risk"
These 2 make no sense.
Mr. Freeze's cell is completely frozen over in AA, and still completely locked down. Whilst scanning it reveals nothing, I just figured this was a minor mistake. I guess it could have meant Freeze wasn't there...
As for Clayface though...he was still in his cell at the end of the game...
As for Clayface though...he was still in his cell at the end of the game...
I figured that maybe in the confusion he may be let out by accident. Maybe Warden Sharp was locked up in Clayface's place. :p
We can only really eliminate those we know are captured, even then it's possible that Joker didn't escape alone or has reasons to keep them where they are. We can't say "It's not" only "It's unlikely" at this stage.
I think Mr.Freeze did escape, his cell was empty and he would have been a prime candidate for Joker to slow down Batman, but considering that he escaped prior to the events, one can assume that he was at large before, during and afterward, so it's possible.
I only really posted what was in the book as a point of interest rather than a solid piece of evidence that characters are definitely going to appear or not, but if their character designs exist, then surely they must be in the creation pipeline somewhere, right?
I'm curious as to how they are going to pull off multiple things. The Riddler had awesome challenges and it would really hurt the game to lose those, but on the other hand, he's covered a large bulk of the characters so it'll have to be finding something else.
Since some of the boss/sub-boss characters where titan infused, it's going to be hard finding someone Batman would have trouble with, another method of superhuman creation won't really appeal to me, but the lack of variety will hurt just as much.
I'm also hoping they include something on par with the Scarecrow nightmare sequences, although not necessarily THE Scarecrow, plenty of other characters are capable of messing with Batman's pointy head.
As for Robin appearing, unlikely, I think they've set it in the later years of Batman, since Barbra Gordon is Oracle, which came after her Batgirl persona, a young Nightwing is a possibility, but multiplayer is something I doubt heavily, at least in single player mode.
I'm sorta hoping that they don't bring in characters from other DC comics in a full-blown story way, although I certainly wouldn't mind Rocksteady doing a Justice League game, would certainly beat the snot out of the terrible DC-based games.

Totally didn't see Sionis (Black Mask reference) or the Black Cat (Catwoman reference)...
