The problem is mostly people without a clue as to what they are doing or getting themselves in to, They want to be the hip and happening grand parents and cutting edge dads with the times.

They'll by an HDTV but don't want to buy anything else or be "scammed" in to buying other devices, so it's running blocky freeview channels all the time and smudged DVD playback.

I'm honestly not that bothered by HD, I have an HDTV and both my 360 and PS3 and hooked up via HDMI, but I grew up in an era of grainy TV screens and think scart is a godsend. Modern consoles and DVD players do an excellent job of upscaling, making bluray relatively pointless, and most tech is unnecessary, why would you want total picture clarity when you're only going to watch The Simpsons and Emmerdale anyway?

General rule of thumb, only buy it if you need it, and even then, buy something that can do alot of things, not just one!

bah, I think it's pathetic what constitutes news these days.
They never define HD as 1080i or p, and I suspect they twist it by claiming one (percent of population owning an HD TV) and then the other (Blu ray and HD DVD the only "true" HD experience)

The only thing in my house that can give a 1080i output is my xbox, but both my TVs are only 1080i and not p anyway.

Anyway, this news article is just a bunch of numbers and stating the obvious. Sorry for coming across a bit angry :D it's anger at the BBC

I only bought an HDTV because 1 it was slim and 2 its 32 inches wide. my PS3 is hooked up with HDMI and my xbox is component cables and the wii is standard scart. I dont actually watch tv as most of it is rubbish. I don't need the picture to be so clear that i can see every blemish on someones face, thats ruins the hollywood illusion that every actor and actress have emaculate skin

What annoys me is that alot of people don't apply logic to gadgets. I'm forever explaining to my mum how to do things on her phone which could be done easily if you apply logic. Alot of the time she asks me which button she has to use to go back and to select, and everytime I explain it's not only the same buttons as it always is, but also that it says on the screen. The fact that its technological suddenly makes things easily dismissed to too many people.

I've a Full HD TV connected to the the PS3, but to be honest I don't notice a difference between a video in 720p or 1080p. It's only 32'' my TV, for sure that in larger TVs the difference is obvious...
