Thought I'd come up with a thread pertaining to something non-gaming related and garner your thoughts on the wonderful world of Sports.
What sports do you enjoy? Be it watching, participation-wise or anything else?
Do you play for a team in your chosen sport or do you prefer to keep it casual? Are you more active now than you were as a child, or vice-versa?
Note that this could range from anything like Rounders to something like Martial Arts. If you enjoy an active past-time then let's share our stories. :)
my fav sports to watch are fightsports, i watch every ufc, wec, strikeforce, sengoku, dream and k1 card and quite a few boxing ppv's, aside from that the only other thing i watch is f1 sporadically and the european championships and the world cup, ooh and strictly come dancing :P

"strictly come dancing"
Guilty pleasures ftw. :P
I've found myself getting in to Boxing a fair bit. Not necessarily watching it, but more along the lines of reading up on the latest news. :S Amir Khan won his fight the weekend just gone in just over 70 seconds which I found comical.

I like swimming but only really do it in Summer when I am in Portugal. It feels so peaceful when I am under water and the only place where I can see clearly. As for watching it bores me a bit so nothing that I can think of right now. I don't mind playing football but that was years ago. :p
When I was in school I would sneak out of PE... :D
I would say something naughty but just read my signature as that seems to be a sport. I want to be the world's greatest blank!
That reminds me of Kenneth from 30 rock:
"Oh it's not really a team. It's just a bunch of guys who like doing gymnastics!" :P

We finally know what Charmed does in his spare time: pole-dancing! :D You weren't Bayonetta's mo-cap actor, were you? :P

i used to play basketball, i had some skills. now im lazy and play vitual basketball...actually i dont even do that, i fall asleep and dream of playing virtual basketball
Lol Chris, Nice.
I enjoy Parkour - aka Freerunning.. I'm not that good, but my gf is, and she teaches me :) We're gonna start again as soon as we start getting some heat :)
When i was younger i wasn't bad at basketball.. And i've always done something sporty, like, I've BMX'd, not too bad at that, Rollerbladed, wasn't too bad at that, but i was pretty good at Skateboarding, i just haven't got that much time for it atm, so before nick's leg went all dodgy i did some skimboarding with him, but it's not so fun going alone :(
The F1 is always good to watch.. Though you can always tell when im watching, because whenever i actually do bother to watch it, there's a crash! Which is awesome! to watch anyway.. haha!
I'm gonna sound so boring, but I don't enjoy sports, never have, I don't mind going on long long walks for miles, bike rides or the occasional running, but that's the exercise I generally get :( as I have never been a fan of sport type things.
I used to do capoeira but after 9 months i discovered its kinda useless.
Dont believe when you fight with eddy or christie in tekken, in real they would get their a** handed to em :D.
The problem is you also need to learn the history of capoeira and how to play musical instruments and thats not my cup of tea.
I do kickboxing for 3 months now and MMA for 2, its really awesome but hard as well.
Today I´m hopefully going to recieve 5th kyu, the kyu required to fight on official tournaments, like the iron fist tournament :D.

Sports i've done... I did judo wrestling for 8 years, swimming, archery, shooting in the ATC, muay thai, 4 years of tae kwon-do at university until i had a horrific back injury and shattered my elbow, also rugby union at school.
Sports I do now: Snowboarding (love it, absolutley love it) and Chinese kickboxing which I've been doing for about 2 years now (i love this even more - it's western kickboxing crossed with Lau Gar - I've just signed up for a weapons course :D)
I also like doing outdoors stuff like trekking. I climbed kilimanjaro in 2002 and kind of got the taste for looking down on the planet from high up. Also did my first sky dive this year - i want to do another to see if I enjoy it, I was too terrified the first time to tell if I liked it.
The only sports I watch really are rugby union (support Gloucester, my home team) and boxing, UFC and K1 when I can catch it.
As I get older I get less active. Sports generally bore me whether it's playing, watching or playing games of them except for maybe Ice Hockey which isn't too big around here anyway, so I'm not really into that either.
I prefer 'active games' like laser tag, and silly, childish games.

Kyu? No idea! That's a japanese term isn't it? I do chinese kickboxing - a blend of western kickboxing and lau gar kung fu. It's the fifth belt in. nothing special, I'm not as good as when i did tae kwon-do. Old age is catching up with me :P

All these names! They should really standardise grades across all martial arts to make things simpler! I was 4th 'kup' in tkd (well, probably 'am' still 4th kup but i've not trained in that style since i broke my elbow in 4 places), which is the 7th belt in.
I haven't competed in a tournament in a while. I got fed up with TKD tippy tappy point sparring where a 7ft bloke can just lightly tap you on the head and they call it as a point. I'd only go in for semi-contact continuous now, I might enter the next one in Manchester.
To participate:
Tae Kwon do and sprinting
To watch:
F1, Touring car and athletics

Does anyone do Tai Chi? I have always been highly curious about it.

Never tried it. I figure while I'm still fit and relatively young (*ahem*) I'll concentrate on the external martial arts. When I'm old and can no longer cope with all the press ups and sit ups them I'll swish about in pyjamas and try my hand at some internal arts like tai chi.
One of the blackbelt instructors at my uni TKD club did it and taught us a bit about building chi. It seemed to be interesting and we could see how it could be used to develop power in board breaking etc. but the time it takes a novice to build chi seemed to make it a bit impractical for self defence for beginners. I think you must need to study it for a good few years before it becomes an effective martial art.

Thats fine with me, I am not really looking to get into any fights, or do much fighting to be honest. I am more interested in it for the philosophical side.

Well, tai chi is a taoist internal martial art. If it's more the philosophy you're into there are plenty of books on taoism around. I have a few by Barefoot Doctor - they're an easy read and very accessible. They don't go into it too heavily but it might be a good starting point for you :)

Reading is not the issue, lol I have done a lot of reading about Tao and Zen, and that is where my interest in Tai Chi comes from.
