I asume with germany its down to the tight laws on adult rated games and Microsoft dont want to get the game Cut for that market
I wonder if Australias next?

Did they get Gears 1?? Its a bit odd if they did.
Perhaps 777 could give us some insight on this? Hes helped explain certain aspects of the German gaming market to me before...
As for Australia...Id say yes. Considering Fallout 3 has already been banned over there...

No, Gears of War was not published here either. People were and - to my knowlesge - are free to import it, though. Microsoft would have had to alter/remove the chainsaw kills, for instance.

At least you can import it though, if you really want Gears though.
Are you able to explain exactly why certain games are banned or altered in Germany? Many journalists or publications seem to give the impression that games are drastically altered, or completely banned from sale...but it seems to be completely different from what we are told.
Is there a reason that Germany seems to have such strict policies regarding games/films/etc?

Im not surprised about it being banned in Germany. With no disrecspect intended to German members, I just mean it seems that their government is quite sensitive to violence in videogames. Although in some respects that is a good thing. Some of the stuff we see in games now I never would have dreamed of seeing in a videogame as a kid, Mortal Kombat was the worst we got.
