Does anyone know the real story if how/why Blanka is green? I have heard a few versions and was wondering which version is the actual version.

It has been bugging me for awhile now and I could think of no better place than a forum full of Street Fighter fans/ Capcom staff.....thus here we are.

Actually, when thinking of the answer, I too started thinking of the several stories I've heard, but in-game, they attribute Blanka's green color due to a substance in the plants on which used to survive while growing up in the jungle. (I'm guessing, as camouflage)

That's the only cannon version.

The other stories mostly link to mutation (Whitewolf's Street Fighter RPG game which I really want to play once in my life!) or Radiation (Marvel vs Street fighter: Hulk meets Blanka).

But the official story is attributed to his constant use of chlorophyll from plants to better blend in with the jungle environment, a color change that eventually became permanent.

In Street Fighter II it's explained as mutation from radiation... it is used to explain the ability to generate electricity.

Kieron asked about the color, so I neglected filling that part in, but mutation definitely wasn't in the original SFII, in which the Japanese booklet had some character descriptions with more text.

His electricity has been attributed to eating Electric eels in the jungle in both the original in-game reference (which also noted the clorophyl) and in Street fighter Alpha Max/SF Zero

I thought the electric eels had taught him how to generate electricity, just they make it sound like he is friends with all the jungle creatures.
