I'm interested, what exactly are these days in celebration of?
Yooooo TZM ,long time no see .....
where have you been ...( actually ... where have I been :D )
how are u and how is your life .....
about your question ... hmmmm
i would like to ask the guys to read the answer as a cultural information about other people ... since it is related to religion and many times such topics flames fast ... i don't mind at all to have religious discussions , but lets keep it as a cultural topic ....
ok ... here we go ....
as Muslims we have 2 holy days : Feter and Adha days ... both comes after a major worship ... Feter day comes after the holy month "Ramadan" with the worship of fasting and it is one day
and "Adha" comes at the10th day of the holy month "Thou Al-Hijja" with the worship Pilligram and it lasts for 5 days ...
as you might know .. it is the season of "Hajj" ( Pilligram ) where the Muslim is supposed to Visit Mecca once in his life to do Pilligram .
Pilligram happens during the first days of "Thou Al-Hijja" month , and the first 10 days are the most blessed and holly days of the year where good deeds and worship are HEAVILY rewarded compared to normal days ... the smallest good deed in these days is greater than the greatest worship in normal days ....
"Arafa" day , is the 9th day of the month ... one day before the holy day , it is called "Arafa" because the pilligrams stands on Mountain "Arafa" at that day , which is the most important part of pilligram ... if you miss it , your pilligram is not accepted .
and "Arafa" day is the most blessed day within the 10 days.
at that day God forgive and pardon more than any day ... to a degree that the devil never been more angry and frustrated than that day ... he says: " i seduce them the whole year and God forgive them every thing in one day !!"
ANY HOOOOOWWW
the next day to "Arafa" day is our Holy day ... the "Adha" ...
we start this day ... with the "Eid" (holy day) pray at the early morning ... then -for people who can afford it- we start preparing the "Audhia" meat ... which can be sheeps , goats , cows or camels , which are supposed to be healthy with no defects and has passed a certain age ... we slaughter these animals and we give the meat to the poor and needy people ... the best to do is to keep part of the meat for your self , give part as a gift to your friends and a part for the poor .....
we do this in the memory of Prophet Ibrahim -peace be upon him- when he was ordered to sacrifice his son ... when he did what he was ordered , God spared his son and insted he was given a sheep as "Audhia" which mean some thing like sacrifice ... this is why it is called "Adha" holy day ....
by the way .... just as a general information .... Pilligram is not something that only the Muslims now do it.....
Pilligram started at the time Of Ibrahim -peace be upon him- , it was him who re-build the "Ka'ba" ( the black building in Mecca ) , and God ordered people to do Pilligram at the time of Ibrahim -peace be uppon him-, but after his death and the death of his son Ismael -peace be upon him-, people started to change the religion and the pilligram .... they started to worship stones and statues and changed how pilligram done ....
until God sent prophet Mohammad -peace be upon him-where he corrected faith back to it's pure way and the Pilligram as it was intended by God in the same way it was done at the time of Prophet Ibrahim -peace be upon him-....
many people don't know that most of the activities of pilligram are based on things and events that happened and done by Prophet Ibrahim -peace be uppon him-.... not Prophet Mohammad -peace be uppon him-....
aaaaaannny hoooooowwwww
this day ( the Adha ) is a happy day ... a very social day ... people start visiting each others early in the morning ... families gather together ( a lot of people .... some families gather in more than 70 persons ) having lunch ( mostly the meat prepared in that day  )
it is also a day for the poor .... lots of charities and kindness and help.
kids get a lot of presents and cash money called "eiddiya" ... you can imagine how things are crazy with kids .... holy day with new cloths and new toys lots of candy and money .... total frenzy :D
i miss being a child !!!

I knew it had to do something with the end of the Pilgrimage to Mecca,
But thanks for supplying with all that information, I thought it was very educative.
I DID however merge your doublepost. ;)
