View Full Version : Report: Xbox Live Bannings Upwards Of 1 Million
Microsoft's ban hammer may have whacked as many as one million Xbox 360 owners following a new wave of cracking down on modified consoles.
That figure comes from InformationWeek who reports on the bans that effectively lock out consoles, not just Xbox Live gamertags, from playing games online.

http://forums.xbox.com/1386/ShowForum.aspx i am sure not every one is as innocent as they make out.
It's good to see them doing something about it.
Awfully amused at all of those who called owners of legit consoles "idiots" for buying games for £40, are probably among those sat at home twiddling their thumbs with no Xbox Live.
I just had a thought... I was going to say "they can just buy another Xbox for £50". I got mine for £50, and I doubt it's modded (2nd hand) but now the market will be flooded with second hand xboxes that can't go on live.
This is bad news for those like me who don't buy many consoles new. Probably good for microsoft though.
I would remind you "Hitler gets banned from Xbox Live" but last time I did it for "Dragon Ball Evolution" version, the link was been removed.
And I've just heard on the news. Microsoft are warning people not to buy modded Xboxes second hand. Apparantly they're starting to show up on-line.

i only buy new stuff anyways. my console went in for repair so microsoft must have cracked it open GASP! They might ban me for them modding it!!!
lol! I always buy my consoles new. i like to know the history of my consoles. i also like buying the games. i collect games so its nice to have the box art or special edditions etc. it would be nice if they were a little cheaper but if you look at something like SFII, Sonic II, Final Fantasy VII or Tomb Raider II (games that i have poured hours upon hpours into and compleeted multiple times) i cant say i havent had my moneys worth.
also on the banning front. a friend of mine got a temporary ban from live for using the word dick to address someone called richard. once they found out he wasn't actually swearing they overturned it eventually.

I'm pretty happy about this to be honest.
I think it's extremely unfair for people to download games for free, whilst other people are paying for them legitimately out of their own hard earned cash!
Piracy may be good for the people who are doing the pirating, but it frustrates me that people do it, especially when some of the games now only cost around a tenner on each console.
I pay for my games all of the time. You shouldn't be praised for paying for your own games either, as this is the normal thing any civilised and honest trustworthy person would be doing, knowing it's the right way to do things.
It damages the industry pretty heavily.
Think about the people who are actually doing their job to make these games. Without them, we'd have no games, and I'm damn sure they wouldn't want to work for free, and so they shouldn't!
I know someone with a modded console, and have always been telling him to pay for the damn games, but no he gets them for free, by downloading them regardless.
He also got around the ban, as his 360 red ringed just before they cracked down on the consoles. I wish he'd have been caught to be honest, as it might have taught him a lesson.
I just think this is the wrong way to go about things. What if you couldn't afford a brand new console, and unbeknownst to you, you bought a modded one? That's hardly fair is it?
And I bet that's going to happen now, frequently.
I'd imagine that Microsoft could have sorted this out long ago, but didn't as they wanted to sell more consoles. Call me a cynic, but there we go.
And it's not like they tried to get around it before, like Sony with the PSP.

I think they should either brick A the console or provide a number for game shops to ring and check on the consoles ID. But the first option is against the law.
My friend when ever he takes a 360 in he always connects them to the internet and check them if they are banned. If they are he refuses t buy them.
I think those numbers are just propaganda by Microsoft, I doubt they have banned so much people (even being pirates they still have to pay for the online).
Still I think it's a good thing, if you want to play a game go to a shop and buy it, if you want it for free it's your problem to run the risk of it getting banned.:p
Quite funny how they suddenly come out of the woodwork the moment it happens, I'd say it's not strictly a case of a modified console, but bootleg games being played too. So all this "wah wah, my console isnt modded" doesnt necessarily make them 100% legitimate.
