I was wondering what with the current craze of remaking games.
It would be great to see a Street Fighter one remake.

The game wasn't bad but I know that the controls were broken when it was first released.

Anyway I found this on youtube

Strange how it hasn't got much coverage but I think the guy probably pulled the game incase of a law suit or something :p

I was thinking just today it would be sweet if they remade SF1, even just rereleasing the game with a more up to date controls (making the special moves easier to do) and being able to pick the other characters.

That MUGEN remake seems pretty sweet though. :horray:

SF 1 was prety bad! i dont think it would be so much a remake as making a totaly new game. i'd rather just have SF5.

Remakes often get made along side the latest version of a game.
Just look at Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD,
Contra Rebirth , Gradius Rebirth.

I would say a remake would be an ideal Live Arcade or Wiiware title.

Any thoughts ?

it would be nice to see more beat em ups on wii ware to be sure but i worry that, in order to make the game playable these days, it would need a complete overhaul. the danger here is that it could end up being a remake of SFII with birdie and adon etc thrown in.

The controls need to be fixed :p

How would it work though? A Ryu centric Street Fighter game? Surely that'd only appeal to the Ryu players. I think that from now on we should just refer to SF2 as the original =D

Well just make the non playable characters playable and add endings and profiles other charachters.

Take a look at the Mugen remake in the first post and u'll see how it can be done :)

A remake, doesn't have sense...

If you want a remake, you should get Street Fighter II... just stop before you face M. Bison. Or Street Fighter III.

You could notice that missing characters are similar to characters that appeared in SFII.

Nope the game Streetfighter 1 was completely different in terms of it's charachters and music also it is considered the black sheep of the Street Fighter franchise.
The game had potential but problem is that the controls were crap and for some reason didn't let you pick any of the other fighters when it should have.

I don't see why people against it here anyway Street Fighter 2 has had even minor changes make a whole new game release such as Super Street Fighter IV going to be released soon

Why shouldn't it ? The game was crap which is why no one cared about it until Street Fighter 2 came out.

Theres enough reason to have a remake but you just want it to stay the same even though the potential for the remake is good.

There is no need for a re-crap...

You described "your" remake just like Street Fighter II, and sequels. That's why there is no need of it.

I bought a copy of this original Street Fighter (PC version) a few years ago in a charity shop for 79p. Though opened, it's in fantastic condition and I thought I'd stumbled on the rarest, most valuble bargain ever. However, I put it on Ebay and nobody bid on it lol. I've never played it because I don't have a floppy disc drive and I've never bothered downloading it because I was told it was terrible. I'll just keep it as a collectors item.

I have played Street Fighter 2010: The Final Fight (for NES) on my Dreamcast using an emulator though. This was the first sequel to the original Street Fighter that came out in 1990 (SF1 came out in 1987). The controls are simple, but the game is very difficult in other ways. And it's nothing like any other Street Fighter game. In fact, it's more like a Mega Man game (platform type game, science fiction plot etc.) You play as Ken, only he has bionic body parts. If there's any Street Fighter game that Capcom has buried and pretended like it never happened, it's this. Check out this video if you don't believe it...

Haha need theres no need for games if you put it that way every game is a clone of an older game

I think we can safely say that Capcom will never release the original Street Fighter again. The reason that Super SFII HD Remix did so well was because there was big nostalgia value. This doesn't exist on the same scale for SF1 because fewer people played it and those that did are generally critical of it. It just wouldn't sell very well...except maybe if it looked and played something like Street Fighter IV (in which case it wouldn't be anything like the original game at all).

Lets just be very grateful that Street Fighter II was far more awesome and revolutionised fighting games in ways that the original never did. Most people would probably only try the original SF just to see if it was really as terrible as people say it was.

Yup I know.

Was just thinking if you look at the mugen Street Fighter 1 remake I'm wondering why wouldn't anyone want this remake.

To me the whole idea is awesome

You can find a lot of explanations in this thread...

Lol yes bad explainations backed up with poor reasons of people wanting to not have a remake :p

Wow it seems not many people like Street Fighter.
Anyways was just posting in here to say I played the Mugen remake.

The game has some serious potential as many characters such as Geki and Joe were not seen again.

Next to nothing is known about them. It would be good to get some perspective on what happened to them character endings maybe.

Ah well at least I got that piece of fan fiction Mugen Street Fighter ONE :D

I refer you to the resident evil remakes thread in the Resident evil thread. I think it was zombiemessiah and i (although it could have been elitefreq) who discussed the value of remakes. I stated that i could see why there was a market for remakes. I thought that older, clasic games like SFII or Resident evil were deserving of a remake as it alows a new generation (who fail to appreciate clasic games without modern graphics) to experience classic slices of gaming heritage. My point here is that SF I isn't a clasic. it was fairly poor, all things considdered. the begining of the classic franchise that we know and love is SFII. thats the important one and we already have an HD remake of that.

I do actually see your point on Street Fighter 1 not being a classic.
However it was a good game just the controls were rubbish.
Also there were many charachters lost and never made a return.
While I enjoyed Mugen version of Street Fighter ONE I know Capcom could do a MUCH better job.

Also doesn't really matter if it's not HD even a small port like them Rebirth games by Konami would do.

I personally see Street Fighter One as a game that didn't live upto it's potential.
