Hey guys and girls!
Being one of the most hyped up games since.....well, possibly ever. Modern Warfare 2 is being advertised absolutely everywhere, and no doubt going to achieve some phenomenal sales, so I was just wondering who's ordered their copy, and for those of you who have; Where from, and what edition did you decide to go for?
I went for the HMV Prestige edition with the Night Vision Goggles, but my brother ordered with his electron card as he owed me £90, so I just gave him £30 and got him to order it for me (yet funnily enough they accept that card on the website, and yet he got a phonecall from them, saying how they dont accept his card, due to their machines not being able to process it).
So, I decided in the end to order the £99.99 edition from GAME, which is exactly the same as the Prestige edition, with the exception of instead of it coming with a bland mould of Soap's head (and of course the NVG's), I get a 12 inch model of Soap Mactavish in a snowy landscape.
So, not only did I save £20, HMV lost a sale due to messing around which I can't be bothered with.
Here's the one with the model:
http://www.game.co.uk/PS3/Shooter/First-Person/~r343380/Call-of-Duty-Modern-Warfare-2-Limited-GAME-Exclusive-Veteran-Package/
Looks really nice to be honest, and I'm very familiar with the Kotobukiya toy name. Pretty happy. :D

Im getting the standard edition. While I like getting all the extras and stuff with other limited editions, I hate MW2 as theres like 4 different version of the same game, none of them with extras that I really care for and would willingly pay over the odds for.
Plus I think Im gonna be hammering this game sooo much Im not even going to look at the other stuff that comes with the game.

05-11-09, 10:11
Haha, well the Hardened editions come with like a HD version of Call of Duty 1, but yea, that probably won't be touched.
It's crazy that they decided to list the game at £45 everywhere, too. Sad thing is, they know people will pay it.
Ah, I'm sure it'll be good anyway. I preferred the storyline of World at War, compared to the original Modern Warfare, but I didn't think Modern Warfare was bad by any means, and this one seems to have a lot more thrown into it.
Definitely looking good, but still not my most wanted game to be honest. That would have to be God of War 3. :D
Ah well, this will definitely be a long lasting multiplayer game, so that makes me happy.

I want Assassins Creed 2 more than this game to be honest.
I don't care for the old CoD enough to even want to own it. It's the same reason I never bought World at war as I hate the old guns. Just give me a 50 cal Barrett and let me snipe people from the other side of the map
CaptainCortez
05-11-09, 10:24
Haha, to be honest I'd recommend picking World at War up just for the story alone, but if that doesn't interest you......Nazi Zombies!
It's pretty much all I use the game for now. ;)
Yea, I'm not fussed about the original CoD, but then I don't have a HDTV, so don't really care for it being high definition. I like a lot of the extra's though.
Assassins Creed 2 though, hmm, not sure. I like the look of it. It looks really fun, and offers more than the original, but I can't help but feel that they'll be using the same mechanics for side missions......find the flags, get information etc. Just became boring, tedious and overly repetitive with time.
Was a shame really.
I pre-ordered the normal version. Hope the Royal Mail strike doesn't affect my delivery :(
CaptainCortez
05-11-09, 11:23
Same with mine, bu I ouht th strike had ended now, or at least for the moment?
The postmen in my town were still delivering on the days that everyone else was on strike for, up in London. Pretty odd.
Uncharted 2 was sent out on monday, sohoping to get that today. If I don't, it;ll become another disappointing day. :(
As with all popular titles, I'm leaving it for a few days, simply because I don't want a crazy nerdy fanboy kicking my head in for the next up from regular edition.
COD4 is extremely fun online, so it's something I do want to pick up eventually.

05-11-09, 12:35
Got me the Hardened Edt from Game, didn't bother with any other versions because Im not a big fan of CoD (Battlefield ftw), hope my pre-order comes 3 days early like Forza 3 did:D
cancelled my order with Argos as they will not guarentee delivery on Tuesday. So back to square one can't order with someone who dispatches through a courier as not in to sign for it so would have to wait until the weekend to collect it and royal mail are on strike tomorrow and Monday and asda are no longer taking any more pre orders so looks like I will be risking trying to get a copy on Tuesday by walking in all the shops I don't fancy my chances much.

I didnt pre-order it cus normal and hardened versions wont be limited so no need to pre-order. Prestige Edition is too expensive, 150€ for a game and Night Vision on a plastic head statue - lol, no ty. Just MW2 and Cod1 Remake in hardenend edition, thats enough for me ^^
I will pick it up eventually as i have not got on well with COD after COD2.
hmv DO accept electron cards. I know from when i preordered it originally, because i ordered the HMV reward card at the same time. They wouldntve sent me the card (which cost me £3) unless my electron card paid for it. But I also got an email from them saying they couldnt process it, but phoned up and inputted details again. If it fails on friday at least I have another card which will work for them thankfully, so ill still have it for release.
I'm honestly not too bothered about it. I've yet to complete COD4, and much prefer the WWII COD games anyway.
However my brother has preordered the hardened edition, but I know I'll be far too busy playing Assassin's Creed 2(Black Edition) to really care.
thezombiemessia
05-11-09, 18:07
I've pre-ordered Assassin's Creed 2 instead.
I haven't had the chance to play or complete Modern Warfare 1's Storyline yet, so I haven't bothered with MW2.
However, I'm still hyped for MW2.
CaptainCortez
05-11-09, 18:14
@ Itsmyyard - Well that's the point really. He has ordered things with his Electron card no problem before, and it's all arrived, so I don't understand it.
They say on their site that they accept it, and then he gets a phonecall saying that they don't. Ah well, free delivery with GAME, plus it's with a courier service, and I know I'll be in, and I'm guaranteed the Mactavish Kotobukiya model now.
I'm pretty happy actually, and kinda more looking forward to the model than the game, oddly enough.
@ Elite - Well yea, they always say that World War 2 has been overdone countless times, and it's no longer fun, but I much preferred the Russian and American campaigns in World at War, to some of the missions in Modern Warfare. I don't even have modern warfare, just played lots and lots of it round friends houses.
The Russian campaign was probably one of the best in any shooter I've played, and they really did a good job with it. Plus, Reznov was awesome. :D
@ Samtman - Some towns have a midnight launch for it, but I'm not too sure if that's only for pre-orders. If you order with GAME, you could go in a pick it up on the day? The stores don't actually post them out. It's the main warehouse which does that, as far as I know. So yea, don't worry, I'm sure you'll get it on release. They still have it in stock, as well.
@ Junglist_dnb - Where did you order from? That's pretty cool. Game have sent me one or two things a few days early actually. I think I got Devil May Cry 3 like 3 days early from them. It was pretty cool, as when it was released, I was saying how I'd already completed it. Had a bit of a small brag, but hey, I guess when you get a game early, you get bragging rights. :p
It's good to see that so many of you are getting it, but the question is; How many of you are getting it for PS3?
I'm open for friend invites, in case anyone wants some games on it. Would be pretty fun. ;)
.................................................. .................................................. .....................
Edit:
@ TZM - I haven't played any of the storyline of the first game, but I have a rough idea of what happens, as I saw the very beginning, and the very end of the game.
Hype wise, I'm not that hyped to be honest.
I figure what's the point in getting hyped and possibly (though a very slight chance) being let down, when I could be not fussed about it, and when I actually get around to playing it, actually be impressed with what I'm seeing, due to having such low expectations.
I already know the series is known for pretty solid shooters, so that's good enough for me. ;)
@ Elite - Well yea, they always say that World War 2 has been overdone countless times, and it's no longer fun, but I much preferred the Russian and American campaigns in World at War, to some of the missions in Modern Warfare.
I enjoy using the period weaponry, and when games cover different parts of the war, rather than a cliché Saving Private Ryan type setting that most people seem to think WWII purely consisted of. Although it probably won't happen any time soon, I'd quite like to see a campaign(or a sub-campaign or story arc) that centres around the Nazis during WWII.

I absolutely loved Call of Duty 4. Easily one of the best FPS titles of all time. However, I'll wait a while before picking up MW2. I'm getting the new Ratchet title tomorrow and Assassin's Creed II is also on my radar. Should have both ACII and MW2 by the year's end though. Early next year sees another game release onslaught too. D:
I'm getting the limited edition mw2 xbox super elite :) Gave my gf my norm xbox! Then come tuesday, or sooner, as my order is now processing, i can kick her butt :D haha yay!
If any of you are getting it on xbox rather than my brother cortez, who's getting ps3 games, add me on ChrispC3 - Though that is my ps3 gamertag thing too.
I actually can't wait for it! The only thing that compares is L4D2! That will be the shizz! and more! Oh and there's my birthday on the 29th.. but the 10th and 20th are much bigger dates atm! lol

06-11-09, 00:43
Yea, just a shame that you can't get the prestige or Veteran Edition (GAME exclusive with the model), with the console.
I don't know if many of you are that mad about Modenr Warfare 2, that you have to get every single piece of merchandise possible, but Play.com are selling PS3 controller faceplates with MW2 pixel designs on, as well as a special edition MW2 headset.
I think there were a few things for the 360 on there as well, but can't recall what they were.
This will probably have the biggest sales of the year, and possibly make a new world record for selling so many copies of the game, yet there are still so many more good games coming out.
AC2, Left4Dead2, Splinter Cell Conviction, then in the new year there's God of War 3, AVP, and at some point Aliens: Colonial Marines, and that's just for starters.
I was thinking, maybe we could get some community games going with this. That includes both the Xbox and PS3 versions. Maybe Warfare Fridays or something?
Really all depends on when everyone is free, and when we can get the most people on at any given time.
Pfffff! Saw the price, £45... Retailers ALWAYS do this to ensure a bit of profit in the rush to buy the bloody thing, they did it with MGS4 and they'll certainly do it with a few other hyped titles.
CaptainCortez
06-11-09, 12:48
Nah, they're not doing it for that reason this time around.
Infinity Ward I think it was, actually said that they planned to sell the game for £45, which is higher than any other stand alone game out there (unless you compare it to say rockband, guitar hero and everything else alike).
I guess it's because they know it'll sell, and so are marking it up at extortionate prices.
Good for them, bad for us. :(

extortionate prices.
You know, games for the N64 used to be sold for about £80
It was only when Sony hit the market that people had to try and compete and lower their prices.
£45 is not extortionate at all.
I'm paying £70 for Assassin's Creed 2 (Black Edition), with an extra £10 going to the Guide.
£45 is only extortionate to people that want to buy every single game coming out as soon as it is released.
I was thinking, maybe we could get some community games going with this. That includes both the Xbox and PS3 versions. Maybe Warfare Fridays or something?
I support that idea. Problem is getting a day/time in which everyone can be there...

Well, it's a matter of opinion really.
You may not see it as extortionate, but I do.
Time's have changed. N64's life was a very long time ago, and I don't ever recall seeing games for the Dreamcast going for more than £40, unless it had extra's with the game, like Sega Bass Fishing for example.
The PS1 games when they first came out, were all £40, same for PS2, and now the same for the PS3. So, yes I think it's extortionate.
This is due to the fact that most game in this current generation all start off on the shelves as £40, but a lot of places sell games for £35. Play being one of the common ones (though new releases are usually £40 for the hyped games, at least).
So why pay £45, when pretty much every other game is £35 - 40? That's for Assassins Creed at £70, it's ridiculous. The model is probably only about a fiver to produce, possibly not even that.
I mean, maybe you're used to throwing money around like it's nothing, or live in an overly expensive area, so this kind of money is nothing to you? Thing is, when you compare it to every other standard game out there (this includes hyped up games like Killzone 2, Halo 3 ODST, Uncharted 2, and soon to be released; Splinter Cell Conviction), this is at the very least a fiver more than most games.
It's a bit much really, and I don't like how the company is milking everyone for an extra 1/8th of the cash most other games cost.
Disgraceful, but hey, like I said it's a matter of opinion, and you disagree with me, so that's fair enough.
I support that idea. Problem is getting a day/time in which everyone can be there...
Yea, well depending on how many people are up for it, I'm sure there could be multiple days and times where this could happen. ;)
HMV have just completed my order for MW2 with the goggles with my electron card no problem, says its shipped, so maybe chance of it getting it early maybe?
I plan on picking up the Hardened Edition, only for the copy of Call of Duty: Classic. I haven't got a copy pre-ordered because, in the past, I've always been able to walk in to any game store on the release day of a game and pick it up off of the shelf. The only time that I do pre-order games when there's an extra incentive, such as a code for free DLC or a T-Shirt or something.
I'm not especially excited about Modern Warfare 2, I'll definitely get it, but I have other games to play first.
would rather throw up in my own shoe and then walk round in it all day to be honest! the last one was over rated. the controlls were floaty and over sensitive and the level design was just dull. it'll be darkside chronicles and zelda spirit tracks i buy next
If they were over sensitive, you turn the sensitivity down...

id be up for tourneys. maybe not a friday as I have a weekend life every other weekend....my friend got an e-mail saying his game got shipped 2 days ago. if he gets it before me im gonna kick him in the face!
or maybe not...its £45 where I work but im getting my well earned discount on it

I play Nazi Zombies on full sensitivity (which is called insane), and it's really fun when you get good with it, as you can run and dodge everything a lot better.
Edit: Chaos, that's really harsh lol. Discount's good though. :D

well Im more concerned about Assassins Creed 2 coming early for me. CoD6 can wait until tuesday but I need my stabby game NOW!
I might even have to replay the first game just to get me even more in the mood for it. I got the black edition on pre-order. I dont care about the extra money, my new Ezio figure will look awesome possing next to Altiar on top of my stereo plus I get 3 extra missions to do! count em 3!
CaptainCortez
06-11-09, 23:28
I only just recently beat the first game, and have had it for almost as long as it's been out for. :/
Second one does look pretty cool though, and I like the new custimised weapons etc, that are in it. Should be good.
I really really want God of War 3 though. That's right at the top of my to get list.....next to Dead Rising 2 of course. :p

http://goonlinegames.net/2009/11/07/supermarket-price-war-begins-on-modern-warefare-2-at-sainsburys/
This is why I don't preorder big titles. This is why I don't jump in to spending over 40 quid on a huge title, when it's almost guaranteed that supermarkets will be the shining light for gamers who don't fall for horrendous developer/manufacture price-making.
They did it with FIFA 10 (I got it day one from Asda for £27) and it's no surprise they're going to war over MW2 too.

Oh thank you, I better do a trip to the Sainsburys 5 minutes from here. :)
If all of them are selling it then it is most probably sold out by now, like when I wanted to get the Sonic Winter game for £18.

Well some places are breaking the street date but not all. So come Tuesday, you best head to Sainsbury's the moment it opens if you want a copy, as this stuff makes the gaming news sites like a dung beetle on dung. Thus, everyone catches wind and will do the same thing on the day of release.
It's also possible this will be a temporary thing as FIFA 10 was released for a budget price which only lasted a weekend before being put back to the RRP.
Once the attention is reeled in (cheap prices), they'll snap the bear trap shut after a few days (RRP back to full prize and still selling).
CaptainCortez
08-11-09, 00:13
Gah, I just typed up a reply for this, and it logged me out, so all of my message deleted.
Anyways, I was saying that down here, Sainsbury's doesn't sell games, so I didn't think they ever did. Tesco's does, but at full price. They don't ever seem to have deals going on with their games.
Cheers for the link though Carb. Was interesting to read. Do many games sell at Sainsbury's for a low price? They should do it more often, and it'd save me money. :p
I kinda wished I got it for that price, but am happy with what I've ordered, as the model looks rad, and I like the idea of the hardened edition.
Anyway, it's almost 2 days until it's release, and game sent mine out on friday, so with a bit of luck I might get it on monday. :D
Carbonox_Ratchet
08-11-09, 00:33
Games only sell below RRP in stores like Asda, Morrison's etc. if said games are blockbuster/huge titles. By huge I mean big mainstream titles that are guaranteed sellers (several million+). The FIFA series is an example and now, so is MW2. Lesser titles are still RRP or a tad below. Nothing major.
In most Asdas that I've been in it works like this; On release day of a game they order about 5 copies then knock somewhere around 30-40% off of the RRP. These sell out by around noon, but gives Asda the right to advertise the games in newspapers at an insane price, getting everyone in store. Once they sell out of the initial batch the price goes up to RRP. I remember last year CoD:WaW was in Asda on release day at £20, I got there at noon (damn work!) and had already missed my chance. It might even be worth going down at midnight with Asda being 24Hr. Unfortunately I have never seen a Special Edition on sale in Asda.
I picked up a Bionic Commando (360) for £17 on release day and Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising for £27.
Carbonox_Ratchet
08-11-09, 00:59
Yeah, Special Editions tend to be game-store exclusive. You won't find them in supermarkets.
I find that Morrison's is reliable when it comes to sales. I'll bring up FIFA 10 again as Morrison's kept it at £25 (give or take a penny) for over a week, whereas - as you said Hickabod - Asda and the like keep the small prices for a very short and limited time. Although, with FIFA, Asda were selling it for a bargain bin price for the weekend and not for as long as the copies were in store. As we all know of course, FIFA 10's cheap release in places like Asda drew a lot of attention due to coverage on websites.
This is why I suggest going to the your nearby supermarket incredibly early (or around the opening time) on the day of Modern Warfare 2's release. Game stores are opening at midnight but supermarkets (unless they're 24/7 and/or do the equivalent of midnight releases) will not. This somewhat gives you a good shot at scoring a copy before the savvy shoppers swarm the places during the day. Unless people are camping outside of supermarkets, ha.
CaptainCortez
08-11-09, 01:36
That would be pretty crazy; Camping outside of a Supermarket. :/
I really didn't know that Supermarkets actually sell games for cheap on the day of release, and then ramp the price up afterwards. That's interesting to know, and when I start driving (can't afford it, and 23 in april, gah) I can drive over to my semi local Asda.
Sometimes, well a lot of the time actually, Play.com sell pc games for £17.99 brand new. It's pretty much the average pre-order price of pc games on there, or so it seems to me.
They generally sell all games at slightly marked down prices anyway. A lot of the games that are meant to be £40, are quite often priced between £30 and £35.
So, needless to say Play.com get most of my money. :p
My Copy hopefully should arrive today, checked parcel force site and my package left my local station 20 mins ago *gasp*

with xbox you can go into your account and redownlaod anything youve already purchased so as soon as you put in the code it will be added to your list of stuff youve already got.
as for the code thing, they did that with the game of the year edition where you got the extra maps for free. so stupid, why not just put the code in the box

Arrggg, I just went to Sainsbury's near our work and it's sold out. Well, I say 'sold out', knowing Ellesmere Port they were probably all nicked.
Looks like I'll be dusting off my Makro card.
I worried they would be sold out. I asked Donna to get me a copy if she goes past Sainsbury's, but the poor thing is probably still in bed (night shift)

410 GS, Veteran isnt as hard as in other Cod´s.
Today i tried to use my Cod Classics code on the site u have to, but it didnt work. So i called activision and asked them about it, they said the site isnt online ( but i was there, it is online... www.modernwarfare2game.eu ). So i told him bout the .eu site and i got told to try the code at the end of the week again. I asked him that im worried that my code wont work now since i already used it today ( but didnt work ), then he said he cant give me an answer.... WTF ?

I'm still going through it, and really not in a hurry to complete it, as I want it to last a while.
I started on Hardened, and am loving it so far. Really awesome game! :D
I'm currently level 19 online, and earlier got 34 kills and 16 deaths in an online ground war (I think it's called that) 18 player match.
Only thing which I hate is that it has a bug in the PS3 version, so you can't invite friends to your party, and you can't invite them to yours. Hopefully this will be rectified in the very near future.
I'm still going through it, and really not in a hurry to complete it, as I want it to last a while.
That's the way I play :) Rushing through is over-rated. I remember once I nearly completed mega bomberman the day I got it, but I wanted it to last, so I reset it before the end. In retrospect that's kind of stupid...
I haven't touched the single player yet, went straight to the multiplayer... Today at lunch time I expect to play the first level :)

605G ..... Gettin harder, almost through on Veteran, almost unlocked and beat all Spec Ops ( Mostly on Hardened, 1 easier then Vet ).
Some Spec Op missions are very hard to beat, some r really easy. My playtime is almost 20h in 2 days without Multiplayer ( except 3 tdm ), best offline modes in any cod til now id say.

I still haven't got it yet. Both sainsburys and makro ran out within half an hour of opening. I've been told that sainsbury are restocking their stores with 50,000 copies tomorrow morning so I'm calling in before i go to work to get a copy :)

My Sainburys 5 minutes away had a lot in a box just this afternoon when I went to get mixed nuts(not salted). My mother got me 1 yesterday morning but if I can be of help... :)
Did anyone else get some left over print marks on the inside of the paper insert?
check morrisons if you have one near its the same prices as sainsburys
I picked up my Hardened Edition from Gamestation yesterday evening, I don't pre-order games, this is a perfect example why, I picked one up off-the-shelf. Haven't played it yet, but did have a bit of a go on Call of Duty: Classic. I'd love to see United Offensive to come out as DLC, that'd round off my Call of Duty collection!

I'm actually generally really happy with the game, especially the model of Soap which came with it. It's absolutely amazing, and has so much detail! :D
The storyline is pretty cool, and the online multiplayer is really addictive. Loving the killstreaks, title's, emblems, and weapon customisations.
I called my usual type I play as; "Resident Killer", my Commando type - "Captain Commando", my Sniper type - "Snipe Time", and my riot type - "I Predict A Riot", haha. :p
Everything about it is good, but I'm not too happy with the fact that everything seems broken on it.
Trophies fail, as does friend invites. It's not really good enough, as they should have had these things sorted in time for release.
You don't see CAPCOM making these mistakes. It's probably why I love CAPCOM so much. :D
Looking forward to Dead Rising 2, and my god, I played the Monster Hunter Unite demo on psp with a friend today, and I actually loved it!
Lance type is definitely the winning solution, and it's pretty fun.
I gave in and got it.
Didn't know which version to get but when i got their they had sold out of the ps3 version (apparently they were not sent enough copy's) so i got the 360 version.

I got mine on 360 from work. Weve had about a million phone calls about the game asking when its coming back in stock because were selling it so cheap.
On tueday we had about 5-600 copies in stock and we sold out in an hour and a half. Was stupid but fun, plus I got a free tee shirt for helping out with security issues and what not...
Loving the game, but im stuggling with the single player mainly because everytime I play the game I start getting invites to multiplayer and I cant seem to say no

The PS3 friend invites were meant to be fixed now, but they're not at all.
I can play with some of my friends, but when I try to play with one person who I was going to go through the whole game with, we can't ever play together. It just fails to work!
This is hugely disappointing. Yes I can do the challenges so far on Veteran, but it would be a little easier and more fun if I could team up with someone to go through Spec-op's.
Instead I just play online to get my rank/level up , against a load of randomers. :(

hey Cortez, I got it on PS3 so I can match up with you
Ive noticed not being able to get into certain games on multiplayer on xbox, this is due to NAT settings between the console and router. Also it dont work if your in a private chat. I like this feature as I hate it when your trying to work as a team and nobody can hear or talk to you

When did you wanna have a go man? That's if it works at least. Also.....slightly off topic, shall I bring my psp and Monster Hunter up on the 5th? I dunno how many of us on here want a game, but it'd be pretty cool. :D
chaosriotzero
14-11-09, 19:03
its nothing to do with Infinity Ward, the xbox version works perfect its more the router you use and its security settings. You need an open NAT setting for it to work properly

yeah bring your PSP, even if nobody else wants to play Ill do a hunt or two with you

Hmm, it has to be something to do with Infinity Ward, as it works perfectly fine on my brothers 360, and I can connect to some people, yet whenever I try to connect to this one friend, it just fails everytime.
Only other thing I can think of is it might be my friends router, but then how come he can play with eveyone else but me as well?
It makes no sense.
That's for playing, did you want a game tomorrow? Monster Hunter wise, it sounds good. :D

I would help, but unfortunately I'm a pro with the PS3 version, not the 360 version. :p
I no longer come first anymore, as I don't care for my kills to be the highest out of everyone. I class whoever has the least amount of deaths, and highest amount of kills in comparison to be the person in first place.
I had 15 kills and 2 deaths earlier. :D
Scar-H with the Dot Sight attachment has to be the coolest weapon by far.
It's good to see that the last patch seemed to fix the invites system, now I can play with my clan (GOPP (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=As1v_Art5lE)).

I was running through Exodus on Veteran this morning, and then my PS3 died on me. :(
I thought it was a power cut, as the game just cut out, but then it wouldn't turn back on. It just goes green, split second turns yellow, then flashes red.
Gah, I only had it on for like 2 hours. It's been on for 32 straight before, and still been fine!
Also, guess what's stuck in it? Rofl!

There's none. I know some friends who got it trapped inside :( One of them never got COD4 back, the others did get a copy of the stuck game when the console was sent to them.
Breaking down has nothing to do with MW2, I remember when COD4 was out some PS3s break down and they started blaming COD4, when COD5 was out the same happened, it's just a coincidence. ;)
CaptainCortez
15-11-09, 21:01
Well, I've gotta ring Sony up to find out if there is a way to get Modern Warfare 2 out of it, but I have a feeling the answer will be a solid "No".
In which case, it might get heavily damaged in the shipping off for repair phase. I hope that isn't the case. I just want my console with the saved data and trophies back. :(
Sad times.
Carbonox_Ratchet
15-11-09, 21:11
Your Trophies are safe as they are tied to your PSN handle; i.e. they're stored on Sony's network side. Saves on the other hand, are only kept as data on the console they're on, thus any restoration of the console would result in the saves being deleted.
CaptainCortez
15-11-09, 21:22
Hmm, like I thought. However, there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the hard drive, so could I not just put the Sata hard drive into my PC, and get all of the data from it that way?
Carbonox_Ratchet
15-11-09, 21:32
If you're talking about copying data over to something so that you don't lose anything (saves or w/e), USB sticks work fine. Then just plug it back in when you get your console back to transfer everything over.
CaptainCortez
15-11-09, 22:04
Nah, what I mean is, I can't connect a USB to the PS3, as nothing on the PS3 works. So, could I not just plug the sata hard drive into my own desktop pc, and copy off the data to my pc?
That way, I could easily put it back on a replacement PS3. :)
Hoping that'd work. I'm pretty techy anyway, so know all about usb's and other things. I just haven't tried to put a game console hard drive into my pc before.

Why do people get so upset about a video game? And that level in particular? I mean honestly, do they actual believe that no gamer in world pops a few rounds into a civilian in a game even when it isn't part of the plot? I mean, the scientists in Half Life were practically asking for it with their inane babble weren't they? :P
I've played my way through most of the levels of COD MW2 and I don't think it portrays Russia in a bad light at all.

The fact is that level is extremely violent. But there's a reason for the game being rated 18+, and also when you start the game for the first time it asks you if you want to block certain missions.
I wasn't comfortable during that level, I just shot one guy that was in agony, but I don't think the level is the reason to ban the game from the shelves. Guess I'll not see anymore [CPPP] and [RUS] tags online :chin:

Yes, there is a reason the game carries an 18 certificate. Also, that level is kind of integral to the plot. Would those two countries go to war without a catalyst for it? At least they weren't portraying Russia as an aggressive nation invading anyone.
Games reflect life, and war games will always contain many things that would make normal people uncomfortable because war is a horrific thing. Some people like to live in a world where it's goodies vs. baddies and war is full of galantry and bravado but the reality is very different. If anything for me games like this highlight why war should be avoided at all costs and well done to the developers for not pulling any punches on it!
People tend to be hypocrites in these situations, they want to be portrayed in a 100% positive light despite it's rarely true, when they pull every copy sold in Russia it makes you wonder what it is they are trying to achieve.
The game has numreous warnings and a 18+ certification, any person of that age who deems fictional material as fact should be locked up.
Although, arguably, Infinity Ward should have approached some Russian representitive to see the best way it could be released without offending people, at least that way they could avoid the bulk of the problems.

DYK: Transformers (the film) was made with the help of the US military, on the proviso that they would not be shown in a bad light. Same with most hollywood army flicks through the years apart from the obvious exceptions.

Well, to be honest, you don't have to kill anyone apart from the officers shooting at you, in that level.
I gathered that I was playing as an undercover good guy, so I wasn't going to shoot anyone. Instead, I just hung back from the rest, and looked around, watching it all and following Makarov.
To me, it's just a game.....an escape from reality. It's a very good portrayal of what could actually happen, and no doubt has happened a few times throughout history, but it's still a game, and you still have options.
Also, it's only a handful of Russians who are portrayed as being bad in this game (4 I think, to be exact).
Not only that, the main Americans are shown in a bad light, and the story is centred all around your main characters, yet you don't see Modern Warfare 2 being pulled from the shelves over there, do you? No.
I felt that what I understood from the insanely scattered around and hard to read story, could actually be a believable thing to happen in real life. So, the game makes you think, as well as just giving you a lot of action to run and gun your way through.
It's an incredibly good game, and it's a shame things like this happen in the real world, where people (or in this case; Countries/a country/Russia) take it the wrong way, and think it's the be all and end all of everything.

i did that with Shepherd in the training level, he's standing just above the entrance to the pit if you want to pop a cap in his face. If you line up properly, you can kill all 4 terrorists in one burst, would have solved alot of problems if you could have just done that in the first place. Saved two countries from war as well
Hah, I shot him as well. I also let some people escape, and put some people out of their misery.
CaptainCortez
18-11-09, 10:46
Ah, lots of people escaped when I did it. I saw one of those shop fences come down, and a lot of people managed to run and roll underneath it. :p
The storyline, although completely perculiar, was actually pretty cool.
The level design I felt was a lot better than what I played of Modern Warfare 1, and the multiplayer is ten times more fun.
It has better levels, better sound effects, better music, and of course, better graphics.
I'd say either the sniper level with Price, or some of the end levels were my favourites.
Bonus points for the KFC bucket trophy. XD
