It's something I'm going to attempt shortly, replacing the 40GB with a sweet 320GB I bought off of Play.com.

A Nifty tutorial on how to do it (http://www.ps3pad.com/ps3-help-guides/2008/01/24/how-to-upgrade-your-ps3-internal-hard-drive/)

From what I understand its perfectly safe and legal to do, I'm just wondering, have any of you done it yet?

Yes I have 500GB one in mine.

Do you have a USB HDD to back your current HDD onto?

It is very easy to do.

Yeah, just plugged in my 1TB external HDD and saved my stuff on to it, took about half an hour due to 22GB being on my PS3.

That's not bad I know when I did mine it took over an hour but I had around 48GB to do. It's all the installations and PSN stuff I buy lol

I had to uninstall and delete a load of stuff in order to get some downloads and other games installed, so there's still a bit of space on there, I just like some breathing room, chances are, I won't really need anything higher than 320GB if I shuffle stuff around and uninstall games I have no intention of playing.

No, i have a long wish list(psp, games for psp, LOTS of games for ps3, ps3 wireless keyboard, bluetooth headset etc.) so a new hdd isnt a priority.

I have a 80gb HHD and 20GB free space on it

I've installed a 320GB drive.

I've made a step-by-step tutorial for Portuguese speakers in here (http://www.capcom-unity.com/joaopt/blog/2009/06/18/como_mudar_o_disco_rgido_de_uma_playstation_3).

I have replaced mine. I found pliers highly helpful for twisting the little screws. For some reason, I am unable to push and twist with small screw drivers.

(and no I held the screw driver with the pliers)

How did it go? Did you manage it ok?

I stripped the last screw, very annoyed, put it back together and it works ok, gonna give sony a call so I can get a replacement case, I know I could take it out with effort, but I don't wanna risk it.

I currently have no need since my(brother's) PS3 is almost completely empty.
